Here are today’s new photos of 12 Zenyatta, who weighed in on Friday at 191 lbs. Today he and his mom were turned out with the mare Spooky Minister and her three week old Candy Ride colt. They kept to themselves today, but we think they’ll be best buds in no time!
We’ll have more photos for you soon.

Amanda
I’m asking this not to be critical but because I don’t know but shouldn’t his front legs be straight? Is it normal or is it something that will correct itself as he grows?
Zenyen
Amanda,
His legs are straight, what you might be noticing is the awkwardness of his knees. That is where he will see “growth” if you will in his legs as he develops.
He is a strong, healthy colt.
Amanda
ok thanks, I had saw somewhere that someone said he was over at the knees, which I have not idea what that was.
Zenyen
In these pictures, yes he does look a little over at the knee but its one, maybe two pictures of a young colt in motion so I would hold off a final observation until he is seen in more formal conformation positioning.
This website talks a bit about the different conformation faults of the leg.
http://www.horseinfo.com/info/faqs/faqconformQ4.html
Honestly and I will probably get yelled at for this but so be it, I think he takes so closely after his mother that he will go through a few ‘ugly duckling’ stages before the graceful, powerful swan grows into his body at age 3.
Amanda
Thanks so much. I think he will too, most long legged “kids” do and he is going to grown up to be one amazing looking animal. Which he is too cute now, he’s just going to have to grown into his legs. LOL
Max
Zenyen. Agree with you. Do not forget the influence of his handsome daddy. The young 12Z has those genes too to assist him to grow into his swan years. 12Z also resembles Stay Thirsty.
Especially Horses / Southern California
I enjoy studying confirmation. But for now, I just want to enjoy him and take in all the happiness of this time and leave my critical eye for the sales ring. I agree he has a lot of stages to pass through and I hope we get to share in each one of them.
Debra Turcott
His legs are fine. He has good BONE in those legs. He probably will have stages in his development that he is going to look out of balance and not pretty perfect. Thats NORMAL. He has plenty of time to grow into who HE was meant to be. So get ready for a growing boy- we are going to love him no matter what

Dear Deborah T.:
Absolutely will love him no matter what. Hugs, JB

Remember the picture of Z as a yearling? We all loved it because we loved her but, in all honesty, she looked like a typical yearling – a bit awkward and ungainly and not grown yet enough to show what a stunner she turned out to be. Just as human children go through that awkward stage, so do foals.. He’s not over at the knees. That something that an older horse may have and is usually an arthritic condition. He’s a beautiful, young foal and will probably wind up looking more like his Mom than his sire, I’m thinking.
signofthetimes
Amanda,
Foals are very much born with very long legs.
They have to spread them apart to graze as their
Necks are short in comparison. They often graze
Laying down. LE has said that he is a very sound foal.
He has a long body which both Z and Bernie
Have as well.
Let just enjoy the pictures of him romping and
Let the experts scrutinize his conformation ?????
Amanda
I wasn’t scrutinizing I was justy asking a question about something I didn’t know.
Misty
Ohhhh…I gotta agree with a fellow poster…Black Beauty definitely comes to mind!!! So happy to have an update!! Thanks soooo much!!! We cling to this!!
Come ‘on Tasty…can’t wait forever girl! :D

Just look at the legs on that little guy and those precious ears! There is absolutely no doubt who his mama is and both of them look sublimely happy in these pictures.
LE and Team Z, THANK YOU for sharing them with us. We will never tire of seeing the Queen and her prince in photos or video (hint, hint).
rachel
Hes finally grown into those legs xD
Dolores

Deborah Richman from So. Cal.
Z 12 is so beautiful! What fun it will be to see the Prince romping with his new friend!
Leslie
Can we pretty please have some video of the little prince galloping around the paddock? Does anyone know where there is video of the cutie pie?
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Leslie:
This is the only video I think so far. Don’t know if you’ve seen it. About two days old here. Hugs, JB

New friends!
Very exciting time for Z12.
He looks like one big boy.
Wonder how he measures up to colts of same age.
Thanks Z team–you are the best!

I can’t believe “our” baby is already up to 191 pounds. What a doll and Z., you are such a good mother. Love you both always. So glad you will be getting playmates.

Hello and good evening, Mommy Z and Baby Prince!
You have gained some weight I see. I have, too, but didn’t need it or want it! LOL
I still think your blaze resembles the Full Moon that you were born under, Sweetie! I take that as a “sign” of great things. It is also the Year of the Dragon! :-)
I hope Lane’s End shares some “home movies” of you running and bucking and playing so we can be tickled!
Take care, I love you both very much xoxoxo
Auntie Judy – Zenny you have a birthday coming up soon……. :-)
JAG / L♥ VE Auntie Judy / So. CA
I just noticed I had “Houston” in my address! Too funny – whoops!
signofthetimes
Z 12 has a star, not a blaze.
Keta
Anyone else notice that Rachel’s colt and Discreetly Mine’s filly
also have stars.
So, is this a stellar year? :)
Terry Crow
Good pun.
Gloria Jeanne - Zenyatta's Prince
Awesome photo’s – Thank you!!! Video’s would be super cool.

Tasty will foal on March 31.
Debi Hamari
I,m sure that they will be great friends! Zenyatta and Z12 love everyone! How are Tasty Temptation and baby doing? We think of them often too. They are such dear friends to Zenyatta.
Max
Tasty has not yet foaled.
Tasty may be doing what I did in college. If my essay was not finished, I asked for an extension. In her case, she has not yet reached a year so that even if it is very frustrating for us who are eager to see that elusive baby, there is nothing much to worry about. Some foals just take longer, and there is no rushing our Tasty. Here is a line of future poetry for the occasion: Our Tasty is not hasty.

Love the ears on Z, what an attentive mom. What a dear foal. He is adorable. Z excels at whatever she does.

Zenny and Spooky Minister both have Native Dancer in their bloodlines, which makes them distant cousins. Once the new mommies get a chance to chat, while their little boys play and frolic, and realize all they have in common, they shall become brilliant chums. They both come from respectable families, and I’m sure their parents approve of the new friendship. Come on, Tasty, I’m praying for you to show us your little darling soon. Loving prayers composed of pure white energy of health, strength, and protection to all LE’s angelic creatures. +++

Thanks for sharing the new pictures, just love them. Love Zenyatta and her new colt and still can’t get over how much he looks like her. That star on his forhead is so beautiful. Stay safe and happy dearest Z and baby Z we always think of you and wait for a new picture. Glad you have gotten a paddock mate and baby and I’m sure it will all be fun. I am quite concerned over Tasty. Please infirm us one way or another as to what happened. The two of you were such great friends. Love and kisses to you and baby Z.
PeggyOne
That colt gained 3.8 pounds a day for those 16 days! Geez! Doing just great. Zenyatta should be in heat probably this weekend, I’d think. It’s a bit dangerous to put mares and foals together so I’m sure they have someone watching them most all the time for awhile.
I had two mares who had been lifelong friends, both had week old foals and I had no qualms about turning them together at all. The colts got mixed up and one thought he had the “right” mama, but he didn’t. I’ve never seen a mare kick so viciously as that old gal did! It was very hard to catch that colt and get things straightened out again and my heart was in my throat until I finally got ahold of him. Mares are a lot more vicious than stallions, by the way. All turned out OK and he didn’t make that mistake again. Needless to say, I stayed there all day to be sure he knew who was who!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear PeggyOne:
Wow, I guess you do have to keep an eye on them. Hugs, JB
signofthetimes
Peggy One,
I think the purpose of keeping her alone with
Him for two weeks was the imprint he needed
So he won’t make that mistake. He now definately
Knows who mom is. Zenny is going to be more cautious
At making friends with her foal. He may actually
Pave the way for her.
Shannon From Cool, CA
Now there’s so much going on it’s hard to keep up.
Pretty soon we’re going to have to organize a Zenyatta Nation Convention!!!

A Birthday Poem for Tasty Temptation
Dear Tasty Temptation,
Though you haven’t yet foaled,
I’ve been told
Today’s a day for celebration
For it’s your own birthday!
I hope nothing stands in the way
Of festivities for you today!
We pray
Your little one,
Bay, chestnut, brown or gray,
Will not much longer delay
To say
“Okay!
Everyone make way!
I’m coming down the gangway!”
Happy birthday, Tasty, and many, many more!

Thank you so much Lane’s End for these beautiful photographs. Our Queen looks so breathtakingly beautiful and he is just the cutest litte “stinker” Oh my gosh, she is so serene in appearance watching him cavort and frolick all around his paddock. He already knows he is something else and then some.
Keeping you in my thoughts Tasty T. Looking forward to news of your foal.
Susan Carothers (in TN)
Delrene- yes, doesn’t Z look serene? She has “happy lips”!
