Zenyatta Delivers a Candy Ride Filly

Zenyatta and her Candy Ride filly. Alys Emson

VERSAILLES, KY — (May 17, 2020) Zenyatta gave birth to a chestnut filly by Candy Ride this morning at Lane’s End Farm. The foal, Zenyatta’s sixth, arrived at 5:40 a.m. ET, weighing 148 lbs. She has one hind sock and a star.

Zenyatta and her filly are both in excellent health following an easy delivery. It brings us such joy to see them bonding in their paddock on this beautiful day.

We would like to express a sincere thank you to Zenyatta’s veterinary team and staff at Lane’s End for their dedication to the wellbeing of Zenyatta and her new foal.

Stradivarius is one formidable horse — he is magnificent!! Our dear Sheena would be so proud of him now. Impossible to chose between Enable or Stradi in the Arc.
Best of Luck to him forever! Congrats, Champ❣️

I noticed some sad news on the Bloodhorse site:

Condolences to Roger Varian and all who loved this wonderful boy. RIP Defoe.
He was a beautiful gray and apparently a very nice horse — sweet that they had made a rocking horse in his likeness for Roger Varian’s children.

    Happy Friday everyone!
A little late to the party here, but I with all of you who thought that Stradi’s race was just outstanding! I was so excited (and nervous) watching it. Seemed to me like there was a concerted effort to box him in! I am not at all happy to hear, however, that his owners have their eye on the Arc. I just can’t imagine having Enable and Stradi in the same race (I believe that Frankie is going with Enable no matter what, but where does that leave our beautiful boy?). This is not good. On top of that, Price from Mill Ridge was telling us that a filly named Love (trained by guess who) will have a distinct advantage as far as assigned weights are concerned!

OK – Hovey earned some “good horse” points this week although I found it a little hard to follow. Upon posting an inquiry to his scribe, the bottom line is that he had to save Bob twice from the same terror (maybe you will figure that out faster than I did!). Bob apparently has a short memory :-)

    https://www.horseandhound.co.uk/blog/hovis-friday-diary-hacking-heros-720970

Lots of racing this weekend – hope everyone enjoys and does well.

Was curious about Love, the filly you mentioned who is to go up against Enable and Stradi, so I checked out her pedigree. She is a three year old daughter of Galileo out of Pikaboo, who has Danehill and Danzig in her line. Yes, she’s trained by A O’B.

Disappointed at MB’s loss but she is happily hamming it up this AM! No smooches from Mike and interference didn’t aid the race either. Jeff Bloom is a first-class owner though congratulating the winner and her connections last night. That’s why MB is so easy to love.

    Sandy,
Thanks for another delightful Hovis! Nothing brightens up a day like he does.

Very strange results from Saturday’s racing. Think MB needed her Mikey. Tom did so well to finish 3rd after going to his knees at the start. Just goes to show that anything can happen in a race. Such a blessing to have the races on TV all weekend.

Hope all are doing well and y’all on the East Coast are safe from the storm. We are having wonderful weather here in Indy. A high of 73 today with some sun, and of course afternoon showers. Great change from high 80s and all the humidity.

Safe trip to all the horses this weekend. And a special good luck wish for Tiz The Law.

        Dear Judy,

It was hot and humid here before the storm, but today is quite pleasant for August in NC.

My cable/internet went out yesterday afternoon (not storm related, I think) and finally came back around 10 last night. Very strange not to have TV or computer — thankfully my little radio provided musical background!

        Stay safe, my friend.

          Dear Marshall:

Power went off and came right back on again. So far so good. Still very hot and humid. Have been doing without AC until the storm passes. Should be able to turn it back on soon. Sweltering!
I always keep batteries for my radio too, just in case. Hope you and our Ann stay safe and cool. Love and Hugs, JB

    Hi Neighbor Ann,

How goes it in Raleigh? Hope you came through Isaias unscathed!
Today is an exceptionally nice day considering this is North Carolina, and it IS August! Hope all is well with you and yours.

    Stay well.
    Hugs and Love ?

      Hi neighbor,
Extremely fortunate here in my neck of the woods.
My heart goes out to the ones less fortunate. Bad tornadoes and the coast did take a hit.
Enjoy the cooler temps. Now, no more hurricanes for the season….!!!
      Love to all.

    Dear Z Fans:

Was just browsing for photos of queen B’s 2020 filly by War Front, who was born in January. Found this one of her taken in May. Don’t know if you’ll agree, but the resemblance to Z Princess at that age took my breath away and brought tears. Even her conformation as a little tyke is so similar I think.

God bless you little girl as you progress on your journey.

    Love and Hugs, JB

I also wish we had some new photos of Zenyatta and her filly. Also, hope Ann and family are well and get to visit them.
We Zenyatta fans never get enough.
I’m trying to get used to this new website layout.
Wish there was an easier, quick way to just get the latest news so I know I’m not missing something.
    hugs to all
