Zenyatta Delivers a Candy Ride Filly

Zenyatta and her Candy Ride filly. Alys Emson

VERSAILLES, KY — (May 17, 2020) Zenyatta gave birth to a chestnut filly by Candy Ride this morning at Lane’s End Farm. The foal, Zenyatta’s sixth, arrived at 5:40 a.m. ET, weighing 148 lbs. She has one hind sock and a star.

Zenyatta and her filly are both in excellent health following an easy delivery. It brings us such joy to see them bonding in their paddock on this beautiful day.

We would like to express a sincere thank you to Zenyatta’s veterinary team and staff at Lane’s End for their dedication to the wellbeing of Zenyatta and her new foal.

I don’t know if this has been suggested, but looking at these pictures makes me think Zenyatta foaled outside in that pen. So much healthier on the grass instead of the straw in a stall. Better footing for the filly too.

She looks so strong and beautiful. Well, they both do.

      Dear Judy,

So sorry about Nadal — such a talented boy. Best wishes to him in retirement and prayers for thorough healing.

Uh-Oh, hate to hear that there is a problem with Charlatan’s test results. Hope everything works out okay. Most importantly, prayers that he is safe and healthy.

    Judy,
I am heartbroken about Nadal. He was my Derby pick. Guess you knew that since he is a son of Blame a Claiborne stallion. At least he will recover and have a stud career. Hoping and praying he will go to Claiborne! They don’t shuttle.

Guess I will have to look hard at Tiz The Law.

Baffert has some trouble with the testing of Charlatan’s sample from the Arkansas Derby.

Blessing for Zenyatta and her pretty little girl. So happy they are both doing well and are healthy. Guess they didn’t stay in the round pen very long. Learned about that on Mill Ridge.

Gotta give you all a laugh at my expense. Was watching racing on TV. Had tuned in late. Could not understand why the horses in the post parade were so short and chunky. I thought they were awful fat. And I had never heard of the sires. After the race started I figured out they were quarter horses.

Keep safe and healthy all of y’all. See some of you on Mill Ridge in a few.

    Happy Friday everyone!
Seems like every week we’ve got to face some bad news as well as some good news. SO happy about Maxfield!!! (I’ve been waiting a long time for his comeback), but sad to lose a talent like Nadal. In other good news, there is a darling, if very short, video of Zenny and her filly on Instagram. The Lane’s End tour on Wednesday did not include them, but Alys said they were doing great and would be included some time in the future.

For the Hovis fans, he’s had HIS first outing since the lock down and everyone seems to have come back relatively unscathed. There is a cute picture of Mini Mum doing whatever that is called with a long lead.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Here we will be going from “way too hot” back to a little cool. Mother Nature sure is quirky these days.

PS: If you scroll down, there’s another pole asking if you think suspected drug test results for horses should be made public before they are confirmed. I voted No. I think once the results for illegal substances given to a horse are confirmed to be positive, then those results should be made available to the public and the person(s) responsible banned from the Industry.

All the horrible things happening in our country (and the world) are so disturbing and depressing. Thank goodness for this beautiful world of Zenyatta! Z, you are our source of sunshine — this is a welcome refuge from all that is mean and ugly.

Thank you, Queen Z and your joyful little redhead, Team Z and Lane’s End for giving us glimpses of happiness! Thank God for you and all horses, and also for our fur-babies with whom we share our lives and love. Lots of gratitude to Mill Ridge Farm and other farms for the virtual tours, too — Mill Ridge is like a restorative elixir!

      Marshall an JB,
Yes, these photos and all of our beautiful equine friends have been huge spirit boosters.

Started the day yesterday watching the TVG replay of BCC. It made me cry, in the best way. Seeing folks from all walks of life enjoying a day at the track. Anyway, Tiznow was splendid and Galileo.
Knew the day/evening to night would be long and it was. Helicopters all night as the riots played out close by…….worried for my young friends finally back to work there.

Little Missy Z is just the cutest thing ever. Love her so much. How about Zellda. Go girl!

I don’t know where I am anymore. This is such a nightmarish time — all the violence and destruction is just so awful. I knew you were near downtown so I hope and pray your neighborhood stays safe. I feel so sorry for all the businesses that have been trashed, damaged and looted. I pray they will receive all the help they need.
May your friends be safe, too.

I can’t believe this is happening in Raleigh!

        Stay safe, my friend.

PS: Peaceful protests, I think, are understandably necessary to bring justice and change and the majority of protesters have been non violent and sadly are putting themselves at risk of getting Covid 19.

In some communities, protesters have been joined by police officers to honor Mr. Floyd’s memory. Very unifying and positive.

Ann, so sorry you, your loved ones and friends are in the midst of this carnage. Praying the worst is over. Please stay safe. Love and Hugs, JB
