    To the Beautiful “Ten City”
    Claiborne Breeders Futurity, 10-07-17
As I watched this horrific accident yesterday on TV. It hit to the core of my being. His breaking his leg on the turn. As I sat down, it hit me harder than usual. Almost like in shock and it should not have as it has happened so many times before. With all the people we have lost this week. As I believe somenone on here once said. Its not going to stop because of this imperfect world that we live in. But, you feel helpless, I didn’t want to see another race. I was going to the sale tomorrow in Ocala. And I don’t even want to go.
But, that’s not me. Although I can’t bring Ten City back or any of them. As I love the Thoroughbreds with all my heart there may be one somewhere one day that I can help or even help save. There is a song, Break every Chain, Power in the name of Jesus, by Jeffrey Walsh..There is something that I can do is pray in the name of Jesus that he can have them all with him. And we can see them again one day. To “Ten City” rest in peace beautiful baby.. My condolenses to Ken McPeak, Tom Lewis and Magdalena racing. To remember you always Ten and all we’ve lost.

Peggy, I agree with the others who have replied to your post. You have stated your feelings so well. I feel the same. I too was watching the race when Ten City took that bad step. I was so upset and he ran quite a bit further before the jockey could stop him. It is so sad. I love the athleticism of the horses-that’s why I like to watch, ( I don’t even bet money on them), but sometimes I “fall out of love with racing,” to quote Sheena, when the accidents happen. They are so innocent and just doing what they were bred to do, and sometimes these terrible accidents happen and it is so sad. RIP Ten City. Gone too soon…

Once again – too far behind to catch up, but here’s a funny story. I’ve been away at a state nursing association convention. I haven’t been to one for several years (really too old for this sort of stuff), but a plan was afoot to restructure the organization in a way that many of us felt would be a disaster. There was a meeting during the time that Ziconic was racing, but I figured I could still watch it on my phone. Being somewhat of a newbie as far as “smart phones” are concerned, I had “muted” the phone and thought that took care of ALL of the sound. WRONG! All of a sudden Michael Wrona’s voice came blasting forth which got me a lot of glares from fellow attendees, and of course I just had to immediately turn the whole thing off. Eventually saw the replay and agree with everyone else – he just can’t start running so late. Someone reported elsewhere that even John has said that he doesn’t have his mother’s stride and can’t get the job done from so far behind.
Had to chuckle at the “Roaming in the Gloaming” reference ♪♫♬♩ My father was born in Scotland, and I can close my eyes and see him and a fellow Scot performing the song in full kilt at a church social event many, many, many years ago :-)
