Happy Friday!
It’s the time of year when kids go back to school and Ziconic is no exception. This week, he was among a group of yearlings that left Lane’s End to begin their training in Ocala, FL.
Ziconic has settled in at Mayberry Farm, where he’ll soon learn basics like how to carry a rider. We hear from Jeanne that he’s in Coz’s old stall at the end of the row, and he’s even made friends with Daisy the cat.
Last year we introduced you to Jeanne, April, and Jackie from Mayberry Farm and shared quite a bit about Coz’s early training. If you missed it and would like to read more before our next Ziconic update, start here and here.
Scroll down for more photos and a video of Ziconic’s departure from Lane’s End.
Enjoy!

Wow!!! So exciting! Good luck to Willie and hope he does well learning his lessons. We will love him, no matter what, though. Absolutely gorgeous, love his red coloring….our very own “Little” Red! Thanks so much for keeping us posted and updated. So thrilling to watch Zenyatta’s legacy being carried on through her foals! I cannot imagine what a thrill it must be for the Mosses following these babies! Awesome, I’m sure. Hugs to all and thanks again for keeping us informed. Love the videos, photos….
Ann K
Ziconic looks gorgeous and very calm, too! I love the way he moves, just as when he first started running around the paddock. Looks like he ended up, so to speak, with mom’s sort-of-a-tail, and maybe some of her disposition, too.
He is so promising in every way. I’d love to see more when gets to Florida!

Dear Max, Sheena and Z Fans:
Beautiful Chestnut born in Kentucky and racing in GB wins the Joe Hirsch Turf at Belmont in an exciting finish and surviving an inquiry. He has won three in a row since coming to America. Will post the replay as soon as it’s up. Love and Hugs, JB

Max
JudyB. I have to support Big D’s boy even when there are chestnuts involved. Loyalty to Big D comes first. Medal Count didn’t do so well today, but there is always next time.
The Belmont turf course looked to be in excellent shape. Belmont and Woodbine are the only turf courses in North America that can stage mile and half races without going over the same ground twice.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, Medal Count didn’t fire today; next time. Can’t ever count out Big D’s babies. I know, Woodbine and Belmont are beautiful turf courses. The most interesting horse in the world likes the Woodbine course too. Love and Hugs,JB
Max
JudyB. Dan loves Woodbine and the peeps there love the most interesting horse in the world. You can tell just by the track commentary on his last race. Northern Dancer and his mother Natalma however both hated Belmont. I read that they had to use tranquillizers to get them to put their hooves in there. Both also hated whips. If a jockey used a whip on Natalma, she just came to a complete stop. She was having none of that, kind of like the Moose approach.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Good for Natalma and Northern Dancer; smart horses like the Moose. I didn’t know they didn’t like Belmont. Dan never raced at Belmont; wonder what he would think of that turf course. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. It would depend on whether a stay at Belmont would come with or without admiring zebras, and the lady Budweiser Clydesdales.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Those would be prerequisites for the most interesting horse in the world. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid and Z Fans:
Congrats to Tonalist. He won the Jockey Club Gold. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Congrats to him. He seems to love that track. Congrats Tonalist.
Praying for R Maragh. He just had the win on Main S for Motion.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Ann:
Tonalist really loves Belmont. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Z Fans:
Will post Tonalist’s win as soon as it’s up. Wicked Strong lost his rider, R. Maragh, around the first quarter of the race and there was a DQ on Moreno. Wicked Strong kept running and he’s OK. Jockey R Maragh is being treated for unspecified injuries. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid:
Bad racing luck today for Wicked Strong. Announcer said he was OK; hope the jockey is too. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. For a bit there, I thought that Wicked was going to do a Fort Larned and win on his own. He seemed to know what he was doing by going wide. Smart horse.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
Here’s the replay of Tonalist’s win for those who have not seen it. You have to click on Race 10.
I know Max, Wicked kept right on going in the middle of the pack. Love and Hugs, JB

Ingrid Arnone
You know dear Judy,
I learn today that we have to be faithful to ours jockeys, before Ramon Dominguez was my number one jockey, now my number one is Joel Rosario, I did not think Tonalist will win today then I change for Wicked Strong, oh well! We are humans, right, ha-ha-ha. Love and hugs.
Ingrid.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid:
As TC would say, even when you know you never know. It’s true, I have favorite jockeys too and sometimes you just like a horse other than the one they are riding. You’ve got a very good handicapping record. Love and Hugs, JB
Ingrid Arnone
Yes, dear Judy you right that happen to me many times.
Love and hugs.
Ingrid.
Ingrid Arnone
Dear Judy,
Wow, scary I hope Rajiv is okay; we need to pray for his is full recovery.
I wish I could be happy because all my picks won, but instead I am sad….
Love and hugs.

Dear Ingrid:
I know. I hope RM’s Ok too. As usual, great handicapping though. Love and Hugs, JB

Thank you dear Judy,

Dear Z Fans:
Mikey just went down hard at Santa Anita. Oh, it’s not good. Really upset. Love and Hugs,JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Z Fans:
I think I saw Mikey on his knees trying to get up, so maybe it’s not as bad as it looked. No report yet. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Looks like Mikey got up under his own power and the horse seemed OK too. There has been no info as yet on Mikey or the horse, Moulin de Mougin. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Let us know. Hope that Mike is okay.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
He tumbled over a couple of times when the horse went down. Very scary. Fortunately the horse got up and veered over to the right away from Mike when he was down on the turf. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
Mikey’s up on Shared Belief; what a trooper. God Bless him. Hope I didn’t get all of you too upset. It just looked like a really bad fall. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Thanks for this. Was worried. Don’t know Moulin, but she’s a daughter of Curlin. She might be tiny. Don’t want any tiny horses to fall or to fall on Mike.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max and Z Fans:
Mikey and Shared Belief just won the Awesome Again. Holy Moly!
I’m so sorry I scared you. I will post the replay of the Rodeo Drive Stakes so you can see why I was so concerned.
Congrats to Shared Belief and Mikey. Wow, they really worked for that one. Two Champions. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. I just saw it and you were right to be concerned. Very scary. Mike was lucky to come out of that without being seriously hurt. Same for the filly.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I know, so scary. Hope the horse is OK too. Mikey must have some bruising and will probably be sore tomorrow. Love and Hugs, JB
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Judy. So happy all was well with Mike and he won on Shared Belief. These jockeys are made of sterner stuff than you or I.I shall be seeing plenty of tumbles during the jumps season.Nissy’s peep#1 was celebrating her birthday today and Anderson the stray has moved in.Sivver’s has taken an instant dislike to him so they aren’t sure whether they will keep him but he will definitely go to a good home!!Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Little Cap Hercules TD Frank and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs Sheena.X
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
Yes, I know. Mikey was propelled out of the saddle like he was shot out of a cannon and then he did a couple of tumbles before he came to rest. Scared me silly. Glad he’s OK too.
Poor Anderson, there’s always a pecking order isn’t there. At least he will find a good home if he can’t live at Nissy’s. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank and all the Sweeties

Dear Beautiful Mama Z, COZ, ZI and Z Princess:

Dear Wicked Strong
You continued to do your job and were so smart to go to the outside.
You didn’t collapse or panic without your rider, what a brave boy.
Hope your jockey will be fine and glad you are OK.

Thank you Team Z and Lane’s End for the photos and video of Zi’s new adventure in life. He seems to take every thing in stride. He is such a stunning looking colt and It seems like it was just yesterday when we were waiting for the news of his arrival. I can’t wait to hear/read about how he’s doing with his lessons. It’s reassuring to know that he’s in good hands at Mayberry Farm and in the same stall as his mom and big brother was. It’s also good to know that he’s already made friends with Daisy the cat. It should help him make the transition easier.
Congrats to Tonalist on his win in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. I was rooting for Itsmyluckyday to win the Kelso (I loved his sire Lawyer Ron – who left us way too soon), but it just wasn’t his day.
I also want to congratulate Punctuate for winning the 4th race at Santa Anita today. It was his first race. For those who don’t know who Punctuate is, he is the second foal out of Pepper’s Pride. He did it rather impressively.

Many prayers for Rajiv
debbie s.
Rajiv sadly has a broken right arm.Not the fault of Wicked Strong, who almost went down with his jockey. See details below
:
Times Union
” The incident happened when Moreno, who won the Whitney at Saratoga, took an abrupt left turn and was right in front of Wicked Strong, who then clipped heels with Moreno, sending Maragh flying. Moreno and jockey Junior Alverado originally finished 4th in the race but were placed 9th after the steward’s inquiry.”
Racing Forum
“Maragh was injured when his mount,Wicked Strong, clipped heels with Moreno who, under Junior Alverado angled in about 41/2 furlongs from the wire in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.”
Wicked Strong went to the outside and finished the race without a rider-and slowed on his own appearing uninjured. I am impressed that he was able to gather himself and finish the race.Best wishes for a good recovery to his jockey Rajiv Maragh. I have no words for the jockey of Moreno-the inquiry has spoken.Congratulations to Tonalist on his win.

Newborn babies can’t walk or talk or focus their eyes too well. Ability comes with time. The baby calf in the field that was so strange looking and unsteady on its feet was running within the hour. The effort put forth to move gives strength to do it-and moves us to more effort. But like the tide, the effort to move is followed by a rest, and then movement again. Each effort makes the next time a little easier until there is maximum strength or full growth. Some things challenge our very existence. It is the nature of things. But every effort we make weakens the challenge. If we will not give up, but we move and rest, move and rest, the breakthrough comes, the power to overshadow and shrink a test.
Whatever the gains, whatever the loss, they are yours.

When Mikey went down, all I could think of was Rough Sailing’s slip on the wet turf a few years back. He had to be put down. SO glad both horses from yesterday that had scary events appear to be ok. And it was Mikey’s 49th birthday, they said!
Power up, Rajiv.

Watching Ziconic taking in his surroundings on his way to the transport brought back memories of his world famous mom. He now begins the process of “coming of age.” Thanks to all for sharing in such a personal way. Yes, a picture or video is worth a thousand words!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Kathy.Yes,I often wonder how quickly the years pass by.It was Sophia Loren’s 80th last week if I remember correctly.Poor Theba was finding it difficult without Joey yesterday, she had to work over the weekend and felt she was looking for him everywhere.I still find my self expecting a video or pic to pop up of him!
I was worried about Fubu yesterday,no messages on his FB but he had spent the day with his nana!he was enjoying his treats later.he’s a little warrior!I saw your conversation with Zoe about Sedona ,it looks such a beautiful place,Zoe is so mannerable!Poor Shelby was sick all day yesterday,Mango is hoping her and the sissy’s don’t get ill too. They had lovely new furniture as well.Fridays are a great day in Heaven, according to Lily, they all dress up and have a parade!Chessus loves the band!Marty was enjoying his chocolate cookie. It’s really warm here today reminds me of summer and the ospreys.Have a blessed Sabbath.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Feel so sorry for the TV station family. The sense of loss is so intense for them. When the time is right after they have grieved I hope they adopt another kitty. Fubu just keeps on going, doesn’t he? One tough little guy. We have a lot of natural beauty in the western US. Monument Valley would be about a 6 hour drive for Zoe. Stay well, Mango! Bless Lily. She must be such a great little angel. Only the best cookies for Marty. Pepperidge Farm, yet! Glad you’re having such nice weather. Have a wonderful day. Hugs form me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
