SANTA ANITA TO HOST ZENYATTA BABY SHOWER;
‘IT’S A BOY’ POSTER FREE TO ALL THIS SATURDAY,
‘TEAM ZENYATTA’ AVAILABLE FOR AUTOGRAPH SESSION
Santa Anita Park will proudly host an equine baby shower in honor of the great Zenyatta’s newly arrived foal this Saturday, March 17. All on-track attendees will receive one “It’s a Boy” poster, free with their paid admission and will have an opportunity to meet “Team Zenyatta” in an autograph session prior to the races.
“The entire racing world is buzzing about Zenyatta’s new colt, who was born in Kentucky last Thursday night (March 8),” said Chris Quinn, Santa Anita’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Zenyatta is easily the most popular horse of the past 25 to 30 years and people are clamoring to see and learn more about her new baby.
“We want to thank Jerry and Ann Moss and the entire Zenyatta team for helping us to make this happen and we look forward to following the progress of Zenyatta’s first foal in the weeks and months ahead. I think all of us here at Santa Anita are hopeful that someday, we’ll get to see this precious horse race here in Southern California.”
“The Queen’s Dance,” a life-size painting of Zenyatta on post parade, will also be on display at Santa Anita on Saturday. This magnificent work of art, first unveiled during Breeders’ Cup week this past November at Churchill Downs, was created by Jaime Corum (whose posters and original artwork will be available at the gift shop this weekend).
Corum, along with members of the Zenyatta team, will be on hand Saturday and will participate in the Zenyatta autograph session which will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Santa Anita’s East Paddock Gardens area.
Several charities, including CANTER of California Old Friends, Race for Education and EAGALA, which have been involved with Zenyatta throughout her legendary racing and now maternal career, will be represented at Saturday’s event.
First post time on Saturday is 12:30 p.m., with the Grade I Santa Margarita Stakes (won by Zenyatta in 2010) and the Irish Obrien Stakes headlining a festive St. Patrick’s Day card.
Be sure to check back soon for the new “It’s a Boy” photo gallery posted in the “photos” section of zenyatta.com

Okay here is the first part of the story:
(Okay just letting everyone know that this a lot of this is kind of made up by how I picture Z’s situation with her family. I do understand that Z’s family is in CA but I thought for this story I would make them closer to her.)
Z stops to nicker as she spots Dottie striding towards her. She wears a smile on her face as she does every morning when she fetches her to read the diary posts and to write the newest one. Z turns to see 12-Z, as everyone seems to call him, sleeping soundly in the sun. Before Dottie is able to get over to the paddock Z turns around and trots over to prince. She lightly nudges him “Little prince wake up come on boy Dottie’s here. She has carrots and a camera I know how you love both of these things.” Slowly prince awoke
“Wait really she has a camera mommy?”
“Yes dear she always does.”
“Mommy will you teach me a new pose?” Prince starts to bounce around.
Z turns to see Dottie at the fence calling to them.
“Of course dear but we better hurry. I will race you.”
“Okay Mommy but I’m gonna win this time!” He starts to race off towards the fence with Z cantering behind.
Remember this is just a start more to come soon.
Sierra
Oh and I have decided that just like the diary posts I will post a part of the story each day. That may help some people get weaned off of the diary as I will also be making up stories as he gets older.

Glad you made it, Patricia! I would guess a lot of folks will trickle in for awhile. Some “went away” quite sad or upset when the Diary first ended, before we had any good news. And this format is different — like Zenyatta loving her routine, we also got used to things being “the way they were”, and feel a bit lost, adjusting to our new routine here.
Patricia ( Lake Tahoe, Nevada)
Kelly from Wisconsin,
Girl, you have come to the right place!! With all the prayers going out for your son from this site, he’ll positively glow… I promise
Now come and settle in, you’re going to feel much better.

It’s already the 16th, so here’s a poem for our birthday lady!
A Birthday Poem for Alex Bowdoin in Massachusetts
(March 16, 2012)
Our dear Alex
Did here confess
She now lacks
Wall space sufficient
For her large collection
Of photos of Z,
And yet she’s
Now buying
The largest size,
No less,
Of Z’s
”Flying”
Signed by dear Mikie!
It’s her own “birthday surprise”
As she turns 60!
Her Zenyatta bracelet’s
Another connection
That somehow lets
Our dear Alex
Gather Z’s strength
To help others for whom she has much affection
Battle their afflictions
With conviction,
Such as her beloved friend Amy
As Amy bravely combats
At length
Medical setbacks.
At one time Alex
Worked professionally
At the tracks
And has owned more than one
Off-track Thoroughbred.
Our dear Alex
Has had such fun
On their backs!
Some were trusted trail hacks,
One was a show horse
With looks reminiscent
Of Charismatic,
One was sired by the great Swaps!
What a great life with the Thoroughbred
Alex has led!
And her love for the breed
Never stops—
Now there’s little ZB
In addition to Z,
Nor does Alex forget
Dear Tasty,
Who so for Zenyatta does care
And who herself may yet
Today
Give birth.
To our dear Alex
’Twould be worth
Admittedly lots
To share
Her birthday
With the first baby
That lovely gray
Thoroughbred mare
Does bare.
Happy birthday, Alex, and many, many more! Best wishes also to your dear friend Amy as well as to your two fur persons, Tessie and Attie, and of course to Tasty Temptation and her little one to come!

I just love the Google.com/alerts. I just love to read anything ZENYATTA and know I don’t have time to go through the Internet to find her name everywhere. This Google alert system is so great. I just can’t get enough of it. Goodness, Zenyatta is talked about everywhere. I can’t say enough about this Google alert system.
I can’t remember who first told us about it on Diary Post 457, But a great big THANK YOU for the tip . I knew it had to be worth the time It would take to set it up.

Three cheers to the Zenyatta Web Team who have closed the comments on #457 after a very reassuring message that NOTHING will be removed from the Diary. The Diary will be up so that people can go back and reread anything they want, but the comments will continue here (maybe until the new Forum appears – wasn’t quite clear on that part). So now, anyone going to the Diary page should get the message, and we now should all be back “on the same page.”
On another note, Zenny’s Baby Shower made the CLEVELAND paper! UN BE LIE VA BLE!

@Peggy N. Welcome back. So glad you had a great time. How nice that you got to speak to David Ingordo, Mike Repole and Bob Baffert. Sounds almost like a Who”s Who in Thoroughbred Racing. GOOD MORNING Z’ISTERS,
I WANTED TO PROVIDE YOU WITH AN UPDATE ON HOW THE FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN TO RESCUE THE 7 HORSES IN THE NEVADA FEED LOT IS PROGRESSING. THE TOTAL RAISED SO FAR HAS NOT CHANGED FOR SEVERAL DAYS. MARLENE DODGE STILL NEEDS MORE THAN $4,500 TO COMPLETE THE RESCUE. SHE HAS A FEW ADOPTIONS IN PROGRESS RIGHT NOW, BUT SHE HASN’T RECEIVED PAYMENT YET TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THAT TO THE TOTAL NEEDED FOR THIS RESCUE. IF ANY OF YOU ARE ABLE TO HELP, OR KNOW SOMEONE YOU CAN CONTACT WHO IS ABLE TO HELP, PLEASE ACT QUICKLY SO WE CAN HELP MARLENE OUT. AS YOU KNOW, WE ARE NOT HER ONLY SOURCE OF RESCUE FUNDS, BUT HISTORICALLY SPEAKING, Z’ISTERS HAVE BEEN VERY SUPPORTIVE OF HER EFFORTS. IF YOU WANT TO SEE PHOTOS OF THE HORSES IN THIS RESCUE OR WANT TO DONATE, PLEASE GO TO http://www.valleyviewranchequinerescue.webs.com.
Thank you so much,

Hi JAG,
I will meet at paddock at 1pm. I have longer curly brown hair and wear glasses and I am five foot nothing. The only person I am taller than is John Shear who works the paddock. LOL. Looking forward to meeting the dumpling gang. Not sure what I will be wearing either. I plan on getting there early.
JAG / Proud Auntie Judy ♥/ So. CA
Okay! I get there early, too, so we might see each other in the signing booth line for the poster ;-)
If it’s cold enough, I plan to wear my purple Breeders’ Cup jacket that has 2009 with Zenyatta’s ♥ name!

You better tell me and the other Dumplings on the site all about this baby shower. I am talking about every little detail I want to be able to picture the ciaos going on with lots of dumplings running around.

I have a feeling it is going to be cold. They say only in the upper 50’s. I will meet at 1pm at the paddock gift shop. I will look for a purple breeders cup jacket and you can look for someone short. LOL!!

I will probably be in the Club House all day but I am going to wear my Zenyatta scarf (pink and teal) — and bracelet, and necklace, and … :) I may have to make a pilgrimage to the life-sized painting at some point so if you spot me, say hello!
Raylene/ So Cal
I want to see the life size painting and have my pic taken hopefully. I will keep an eye out for you.

Team Z; Thanks for another picture of “It’s a Boy” poster. Sure wish I could be there, I would like to see Z’s Z family again so I could personally tell them how wonderful they have been to share Zenyatta and now, her colt. Dottie has been incredible.
Have a sunny day!

@ jeanie-Thank you SO much for the link–that is just what I was looking for! I surely hope that we can help Marlene save these lovely horses. She has a long way to go if the numbers haven’t changed in awhile!! Please help her,if you can,–any little amount will help it add up quickly if lots of us can help!!
I wish I could adopt the light dun myself—he looks like my Barnaby—a horse I rescued from a dude string where he was completlty soured and had lost all hope. After I had him for two weeks,he was like a new boy!! He never did like being ridden much after that, but he was lively and happy as a “pasture ornament”! Look at the horses on Marlene’s site–he looked just like the one she calls a “tank”!!
Sue Noel/Sun Valley,ID
@ Jeanie–Dumb me!! I didn’t divide my message up right,so it looked like I was asking YOU to help. I know you already DO!! I was trying to speak to all Zsters–just hoping we can help save these sweet, lost,”babies”,standing there waiting for they know not what-frightened and cold, feeling abandoned. I pray help may come in time.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Thank you, Sue! Marlene is so appreciative. It all adds up.

Okay here is the next part of the story:
Prince starts to gather speed the wind whipping his little tail up into the air. Z lets Prince get ahead and then starts to speed up zooming past him. As she waits closer to the fence for her son she shouts to him.
“Lesson number one for today is the gallop pose. Turn your head a little towards the camera or away from it they love it.” Prince slowly turned his head as Dottie snapped up photos. Now Z was talking with Dottie as she waited for Prince to gallop up.
“Isn’t he just so adorable? Just look at those ears Dottie! He has my ears! But of course he has Berni’s head too.”
“Zenny you are right he is just too cute. Of course he has your ears Z and don’t forget as Ann said he also has your spots. But you are also right about Berni’s head.” Now Prince was at the fence.
“Hi Dottie Guess what?! Guess what?!”
“What 12-Z?”
“Mommy taught me the first part of her dance last night!” Prince started to bounce up and down as Z looked on proud of her son.
“That is so cool 12-Z! I am sure that once you are on the track you will be just like your mommy dancing all around. But you better watch John with that Guinness you tell him that you can’t have too much.”
“Dottie!” Z exclaims and then starts to whisper “I haven’t told him about the Guinness yet. I think lesson one should be the dancing.”
“Mommy what is Guinness?” Prince looks up quizzically at Z.
“You will just have to wait and find out. That is big boy stuff. First you must learn the basics and then once you get to John’s you will learn about the Guinness.”
“Okay mommy. Dottie will I ever get to write a diary like mommy?”
“I am not sure 12-Z but you could help us with today’s diary.” Dottie replied smiling at 12-Z’s excitement at becoming just like his mom.
I will post more around 5 today.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
