SANTA ANITA TO HOST ZENYATTA BABY SHOWER;
‘IT’S A BOY’ POSTER FREE TO ALL THIS SATURDAY,
‘TEAM ZENYATTA’ AVAILABLE FOR AUTOGRAPH SESSION
Santa Anita Park will proudly host an equine baby shower in honor of the great Zenyatta’s newly arrived foal this Saturday, March 17. All on-track attendees will receive one “It’s a Boy” poster, free with their paid admission and will have an opportunity to meet “Team Zenyatta” in an autograph session prior to the races.
“The entire racing world is buzzing about Zenyatta’s new colt, who was born in Kentucky last Thursday night (March 8),” said Chris Quinn, Santa Anita’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Zenyatta is easily the most popular horse of the past 25 to 30 years and people are clamoring to see and learn more about her new baby.
“We want to thank Jerry and Ann Moss and the entire Zenyatta team for helping us to make this happen and we look forward to following the progress of Zenyatta’s first foal in the weeks and months ahead. I think all of us here at Santa Anita are hopeful that someday, we’ll get to see this precious horse race here in Southern California.”
“The Queen’s Dance,” a life-size painting of Zenyatta on post parade, will also be on display at Santa Anita on Saturday. This magnificent work of art, first unveiled during Breeders’ Cup week this past November at Churchill Downs, was created by Jaime Corum (whose posters and original artwork will be available at the gift shop this weekend).
Corum, along with members of the Zenyatta team, will be on hand Saturday and will participate in the Zenyatta autograph session which will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Santa Anita’s East Paddock Gardens area.
Several charities, including CANTER of California Old Friends, Race for Education and EAGALA, which have been involved with Zenyatta throughout her legendary racing and now maternal career, will be represented at Saturday’s event.
First post time on Saturday is 12:30 p.m., with the Grade I Santa Margarita Stakes (won by Zenyatta in 2010) and the Irish Obrien Stakes headlining a festive St. Patrick’s Day card.
Be sure to check back soon for the new “It’s a Boy” photo gallery posted in the “photos” section of zenyatta.com

Hi again, Judy,
Tasty has so many natural shadings in her coloring, it’s hard to tell. I just wish she would have that little 12TastyTemptation. I’m not liking the idea she and Zenyatta may be separated. Hopefully soon. Marty R.

Well they weren’t kidding when Santa Anita announced there would be a shower for Zenyatta today cause it really rained like the dickens getting there but so glad I made it. You could tell where all the Z-sters were by their energy. Probably 200 to 300 fans all patiently waiting in line for autographs. On hand to sign were John, Dottie and Mike plus the young lady who did the beautiful life size painting of Z on display was also there to sign her posters (Jamie Corum). We were told that Mrs. Moss was under the weather so neither she nor Mr. Moss made it but hope she’s feeling better and stays warm. Upon leaving I got totally drenched with the rain but happier than happy that I got my Z&baby posters signed! Hope all the others made it safely home in the rain. Did you guys notice that SA had turned their water fountain displaly a bright green for St. Paddys’ day?

Thanks for sharing, AJ – for those of us so far away.

Dear AJ:
Thanks for the update on your day at SA. Sounds like, even with the wet weather, it was a fun day. Z’s fans are like the postal service: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom keeps the Z’sters from their completion of their poster signing. Absolutely worth it. If I could have, would have been right there with you. Hugs, JB

AJ, Thanks for the update. I have their autographs on the Vox Populi poster, otherwise I might have forced myself to go, even with my sore knee. Did you get to see the full size Jaime Corum Zenyatta? I want to go see that, while it’s still at Santa Anita, I’m not sure how long it will be there.
I’ll bet it was cold too. I just got back from a little grocery shopping. When I left home, I saw the sun shining, no rain, but cold and windy. One half mile later it was drizzling, arriving at the store it was dry, but cold, when I walked out of the store 10 min. later, it was hailing. I got hailed on, we almost never get hail here. One guy was catching it in his hand, laughing. I hurried across the parking lot, but by the time I was sitting in my car, no hail, just cold rain. And 1 mile away, the sun came out again, in my rear view mirror, getting close to sunset. Weird, for sure.

I was at the track but in the Club House all day. I didn’t get a chance to check out the fountain … they do that every year but I wondered if they would with all the rain! I got several posters but did not get any signed :(

Is she going to be bred, too??? Any new videos,

The foaling really was very emotional for them

They normally deal with when they have foals born.

@Kelly Lee from Wisconsin – I hope you make it over to this site – I recently went through what you were writing about with your son’s deployment and I wanted to share with you how things are now and reassure you regarding communication and conditions in Afghanistan. This was JP’s second deployment as he was in Iraq when the war began years back. Things are so different now. I’ll keep checking and if I see your name, I’ll provide more details. I was concerned about the same things you are before he left this last time and I ran into a Mom whose son had just returned. She shared reassuring information with me and I’d like to do the same for you. Hope to make contact soon. I looked for you on Facebook but had no luck. Hang in there.

I also want to tell you that one of my Homeroom students has died. His name was Trey. He died in a house fire last night. This has been a hard day. I don’t know what Monday will bring. I love my Homeroom and they really become like a family to me. Thanks for listening. Love, Shari PS I miss the Zenyatta Diary

Shari, the link above did not work, but by hunting, guessing, and trial-and-error, I believe I have found it on the last page (35) of the “Survivors Parade Nominations”, there is a “Wally” down in the middle of the page, and that leads to Wally Zoglauer’s page: http://admin.kentuckyderby.com/oaks/survivors/wally-naperville-illinois
I have two friends who are now in the midst of their radio and/or chemo treatment for it, and it really takes a toll.
I also knew of someone who died young in a house fire, at a friend’s. Such a waste of someone’s wonderful life. It’ll be tough for your kids to have to take, to fear, to talk about — all of it. Not the kind of thing they should have to know, especially when young.

Shari. Of course I will vote for your friend.
I am so sorry to hear this sad news of your young student. This is a shocking tragedy and a terrible loss for his family and for you and his classmates. You have a great deal of responsibility as their teacher in the normal course of events. That responsibility increases now. From what I know of you from Zenyatta, you will find the right words to comfort those who will need it. It is so sweet that he loved the great Zenyatta and dear Mistletoe, a horse whom I have come to know through you. I will be thinking of you in the coming week. Best to you.
Shari Voltz from Ohio
Thank you sweet Max.
Max
Shari. Please let us now how you are doing with this and how your class will cope. They are so young to face such sadness. It is extremely hard for you too to see such a loss. None of us can explain or understand why these things happen. It is a sad mystery that can only be in time accepted because there is no other way. Zenyatta and her team has taught us one thing: no matter what occurs, we must go on with love in our hearts and never give up on life. I guess that is the way in which we can honor those, like this young boy and Kari B, whom we have lost.

Dear Shari,
I’m so sorry to read this news of your student, Trey. It seems you have had a lot to cope with recently with your husband’s health scares and your dear Miesha’s disease and now this tragedy. Do you know if there will be grief counselors at your school? I do hope that service is provided.
I’ve been trying to think what might be able to help your homeroom class. All I could come up with was something like a memory book or just a paper where the children could write a happy memory of their friend. Maybe like he was smart or told good jokes or drew good pictures…positive things to remember. I’m just so soorry you all have to face this.
Prayers for all,
Marty R.

Vicky,
Thank you for finding the link to vote for Shari’s friend. I am also a survivor so try to support the fight in any way I’m able.
Thanks, too for your comment on my suggestion. It’s so hard to know what to do when a tragedy like that involves children. It sounds like you know from experience.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
You’re welcome, Marty. I didn’t know you too, are a survivor. That makes it more meaningful, indeed.
I haven’t been through such an experience as Shari, with a roomful of children in school, but my mom was a licensed daycare mother, so over 17 yrs., we had perhaps 100 children come to our house in the daytime, usually 6 at a time. So by the time I was grown, I felt like I had had 10 kids of my own already, and no illusions. And we did have to deal with some traumatic situations, with a few children. I have always felt it’s important to listen to children, and find out what they need, if they need to talk or not, and when or if, and go from there. Some will want to, and some won’t, that’s all fine. But to be sensitive, and pay attention to where they are at, emotionally. And just be a real adult, and be there for them. Then things are simpler, and nothing is impossible to deal with (tears, fears, whatever). I hope I’m making sense, I hardly know you — but that’s what I feel.
Marty R / Colorado
Vicki B, What you say makes perfect sense. Thank you for going into so much detail. I also apologize for mis-spelling your name last night.
Shari Voltz from Ohio
Marty thank you. I really like the idea of making a poster. I thought even cards. There will be extra counselors at school tomorrow. I will do whatever I can to help my Homeroom through this. We are a really close class because of all the little horse projects. What stands out is the card that Trey made for Hansen. I just remember it. I don’t know why. Thank you so much for caring. Dear Shari, Just logged in this morning and read this terrible news. As a retired special education teacher, I have followed all your class activities and your love for your students always shines through. I know how difficult this is – I lost a student to a drowning accident many years ago and I still think of him. You will be the rock for your students as you always are – there will be many prayers going up for you, the students in your class and this family on Monday – these will give you strength to get through the day and know how to provide support for your students. I think the poster or scrap book suggested above are excellent ideas – good grief therapy for the students. Will also vote for your friend. Much Sympathy…

Pati- HUGE fan of Queen Z's Prince
Dear Prince Z,
The day you were born was the day the world came to watch the U.S again. Our Queen produced the next royal member of racing.
Now, as we continue to watch you grow, we find our dreams to be running rampant, all flirting with the notion of the next King. Will you be a Native Dancer, tough and gritty to the very end? Will you be a Secretariat, a horse of endless ability and bottomless gears? Will you be an Affirmed, boundless in energy and a big bounding stride? Will you be like your Great mother, talented, beautiful, a born dancer, and a horse not to be denied? Or will you be something completely different from the other Greats? Will you be a horse who breaks down barriers, breaks records, and breaks competitor’s hearts? Will you be our next soul-mate, the one who makes us feel lighter than air?
We wait and watch, as the 3 year old crop goes to post this Saturday in May, we wonder when it will be your turn, to look through a bridle, to be ridden by The Master Mike Smith, to wear your mother’s colors of the wonderful Mosses, and when it will be YOUR turn to stand in the gate on that first Saturday in May in the glorious state of Kentucky. We await for the victory, and then the post to the Preakness, and then to the Test of Champions, the Belmont. We all await, for you to fullfill our dreams and become Great, or even become the Triple Crown winner this country so dyingly hopes for and needs. For you to revive the sport, and bring the crowds, just as your mother did. For the Sport of Queens and Kings to not only return to its former glory, but to come onto a stage like never before.
An ambassador to the sport, that everyone can experience as fully as we experienced our Great Queen Zenyatta. So that more people like our loving Mrs. Kari B will be able to hold onto some part of you, and for it to heal them in ways medicine never could and never will.
We wait for you to come storming and win the Classic in “U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E!!!!!” fashion, and continue to carry the torch of the Moss family in the Breeder’s Cup races.
I personally, wait for you to come to the races, so than I can join some of my Z family at the races, and watch you run. Fill my camera with pictures, and my heart with the memories of the Great Prince.
May your days be warm, the nights comfortable, the races successful, and the career ahead one for the ages. This I, and many others, wish for you. Anywhere you may go, and anything that may happen, in the words of the Great Whitney Huston,” I will ALWAYS love you.”
Love and kisses for you and Z,

I just read an article that brought reality back to me. Not only is Zenyatta’s stable mate Tasty at Lane’s End Farm but have we all forgotton so easily that her California stable mate ‘ Life Is Sweet’ is also a broodmare living at Lane’s End. How great is that that Zenny has her California pal there too. Wow, that really makes it Life is sweet for both pals.

Hello, my dear, wonderful Z friends! I apologize for being behind in the site’s posts and in contacting you. I promise I will try to get better. I miss talking with you all and especially Zennie and Dottie, everyday. I wrote to Abigail that if my spirit speaks to Zennie, perhaps she will still hear me!! But, I do really appreciate all that Zennie’s Web Team is doing for us! All of the new pictures of our little Prince are TOO CUTE!!
I saw some pictures from Zenyatta’s Baby Shower, how I wish I could have been there!! I was really sorry that it was pouring rain, I’m sure it kept some of the fans away. I was absolutely wonderful to see John, Dottie and Mike together, what trooper’s they are and how I love them all. The poster is very special!! It was also great to see Jamie!
Watching Havre de Grace run today was great fun. Aren’t we lucky to have her running again this year and of course all of the Derby excitement just keeps building.
My “Sis” Peggy, I loved the description of your time in Florida. You lucky girl!!! Surrounded by gorgeous horses and getting to meet so pretty amazing gentlemen. It is very special that you got to speak with David. How could he be anything but kind with our Dottie as his mother! I am hoping that Shari and I get to meet him this summer. I am so glad you had a wonderful time!!!!
Ashton Bussell, thank you from the bottom of my heart for completing the beautiful and final video your mother, our Kari created. The tears were falling so hard, it was difficult to see the screen. They were a pure mixture of joy and sorrow. The pictures from Lane’s End were especially touching, that was always one of my prayer’s, for your mother to meet Zenyatta there in person and get to kiss her angel. What happiness to see her do so!! You have given us so much, I love having you as part of our family!!!
My wonderful Judy B, you are such a beautiful soul!! Thank you for your kind, special posts. I saw the picture of Tasty, she looks gorgeous even though I bet she is getting tired of that little one dancing inside her! I just want her and her foal to be safe and happy as our Zennie and little Prince are.
As I said, I am still way behind, but I love each and everyone of you!!!! Sweet dreams. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO

I had a wonderful day at Santa Anita, even though I did not get over to the poster signing. It was POURING down rain on the drive over and when my sister and I arrived at the track, but we were nice and dry under cover in the Club House Court — much warmer and drier than we would have been in the Infield Picnic Circle!
I did grab several posters but we were so busy setting up the raffle tables and catching up with everyone that I wasn’t able to get over to the signing area. I did win a framed Zenyatta V Foundation photo and a free riding lesson in the raffle, so I don’t feel TOO bad. :-) And on the way home, we saw a rainbow!
Even though I didn’t get to see Team Z, I did lift a Guinness in Zenny’s honor. I hope the rest of the Dumplings who were there had as fun a day as I did!

Julie,

Dear Karen G
Thanks for posting the link to LUCK’s cancellation
Written by Santa Anita. PETA can get a little out
Contol with their issues, but horses dying while
Working on a movie for the general public is not
Satisfactory. I am sure they used safety precautions
As Santa Anita is a top class track, but for HBO to have
To deal with all of these high profile deaths is going
To take more time for them and their lawyers than they
Will make. I am sorry for all of the jobs lost as the people
Involved in horse racing have a very slim market to
Work in. But it seems the best thing to do is throw in
The towel for HBO.
Karen Gogue PROUD Nanny/Granny ♥♥
Thank you. Yes, it seems so. HBO owns the rights so it can not be picked up any where else.

Rumor Has It
I hate to be the Devil’s Advocate here but does any one else have a “wonder” as to the timing of:
1) Dottie’s abrupt termination of Z’s diary
2) Ann’s absence at Santa Anita last weekend even though Jerry was there and confirmed that she indeed DID leave KY (albeit not happy to do so)
3) John’s less than comforting statement about training Z’s new foal except to say other than “I’m still here”.
AND most blaring
3) Ann being “under the weather” today at her most beloved Z’s “baby shower/autograph signing”……….even if she WAS, where was JERRY?????????
There is SOMETHING wrong/brewing in Team Zenyatta……..wonder how long before it comes out????
I’m just saying…………….
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
No, “Rumor”, I don’t believe there’s anything sinister “brewing” in Team Z. I think that is most likely your imagination and fear at play. Definitely fear, as evidenced by your chosen moniker.
Karen Gogue PROUD Nanny/Granny ♥♥
OH STOP! HOLD ON THERE JUS A MINUTE – PULEESE!
If you had been there yesterday at the signing, THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOU’D HAVE SUCH THOUGHTS … I am not angry at you for expressing your thoughts, but you should know, and I feel compelled to say, that the ‘feel’ and the vibes there could not have been more joyful and exburant. (I don’t know, maybe I just look at things and life differently than others, I always look at life on the brighter side, with a rosey outlook, it makes for a much happier life when I do.) John, Dottie, and Mike were so kind and gracious and really were happy to see everyone, and to do this for Zenny’s fans. Their hearts were smiling at each and everyone of us when we came up to the table, no phonyness there and no hiding, or covering up something brewing. Everyone that I looked at standing in line had such happy, content smiles, and their hearts and minds had to be at peace with the situation. It was the ‘here and now’ and that was all that mattered. Their love for Zenny and little 12 Z and Team Z set the tone, and John, Dottie, and Mike were truly wearing their hearts on ther sleeves! In fact, they were there for well over 2 1/2 hours – even after the last person in line had their poster signed. (I imagine that was for the gift shop orders, or whatever – it doesn’t matter.) What matters is that they all came out to do this for the fans on a most horrific stormy day and were more than pleased to do so. As far as Jerry and Ann, sure, we wonder what could have happened, but it is not my businness to speculate and I more than understood if they could not have made it. Let’s move on and please, let’s not have any more negativity about what may or may not have happened, AND just enjoy Team Z wherever and whenever we can – while we still have them in our lives. And I plan on doing just that – life is far too short to do otherwise. No where is anyone ever going to meet such loveable, joyful, kind, and gracious people than what makes up all of Team Z – SO ENJOY WHILE YOU CAN!! Thank you for giving me your ear ….
Hannah
“Rumor” Ann can fly to Kentucky anytime she wants too. I do believe they own their own jet. Jerry and Ann had been here all week when ‘Zunior’ was born. They are business people in more than just horse racing. How many owners have you ever heard of flying out to be with their prized mare when she foaled? They were in KEntucky waiting and weren’t leaving until that foal was born. Quit borrowiing trouble. Nothing sinister about it.

It was wonderful of Jerry and Ann Moss to agree to distribute the posters. Sometimes other commitments or illness can require changes to any plans. As for the comments of John, that is his usual low key, modest self. Zenyatta explained Dottie’s rationale for the diary hiatus. I take all at face value because there is no reason not to do that. Let us hope only the best for these people because that is what they have always given to us and racing. Like Zenyatta.

Max, I like your sensible responses to all the specific rumor claims.

Good Morning Rumor Has It. I respect your right to your opinion, but I must say the Mosses and the Shirreffs are 120% Total Class Acts. You have come to the wrong place to stir the do-do (feces). Have you never been able to attend something important to you due to illness or prior engagements. I have. And it did not take away my feelings for the importance of the event. And by the way I have posted this under my Real name. I own it and claim it. Have a nice day.
signofthetimes
Dear Rumor,
I have never seen you on this site and I think
You are a hacker trying to start trouble. There
Is nothing going on behind the scenes. I think Ann
And Jerry were pretty exhausted from the trip to KY
And the birth as Dottie mentioned. Maybe Ann
And Jerry want a little space form the fans. Some
Of the fans are treading on the owners “turf”
name of foal, when is next breeding etc…. I am
Sure RA has been bred a second time but no information
On that. Owners have the right and control everything
Related to their horses. John’s comment about Zenny’s
Foals training was perfectly appropriate. Ann and Jerry use other
Trainers and under no circumstances should he assume
NOW that he will train that colt. That decision will be
made after or during 2 year old training.

sign – i always like to read your posts because they contain such great info! i happen to agree with what you have said here, except for one thing. we do know to whom ra has been bred for 2012. it is bernardini. announced by barbara banke in february. tweeted by hrtv. inconsequential to this present topic (rumor) but interesting, i think.
Margaret I'm ECSTATIC!!!!!
I admit I wasn’t at the baby shower but here are some thoughts to think about.
1. Jerry Moss was at the track on Saturday a week ago right after the baby was born. Watching that video of Ann in the straw–grown woman in nice clothes–playing and snuggling with the baby like any of us would tells a lot about how she felt. I know I wouldn’t want to be leaving that bundle of joy any time quick after such a joyous occasion.
2. I gather from what’s been said Jerry and Ann weren’t at the signing yesterday. While they may have had other engagements–could be they got knocked down by the flu. I don’t know about anyone else but that thing is a monster bug. It wiped my sister out for the better part of two weeks and me too. I’m still regaining strength from that battle.
3. John Sherriffs would be a great trainer–we all know that as do the Moss’s. But trainers and owners split and go there own ways day Ina and day out in the horse racing business. Better to hope that someday he’ll get the colt than to just count on it.
4. For the time being although I like Zenyatta’s Prince which he was quickly dubbed–perhaps a more appropriate name–12 Zenyatta is a name we can all agree on. It is after all how he’s referred to at LE’s and while we may not all agree on which ever name we pick–at least we can call him 12 Zenyatta and show that we can be respectful of whatever name the Moss’s eventually pick. And just for the record–that’s not a push for name him quickly.
5. While I was surprised that the diary ended I have to respect Dottie. She is a ginormously busy lady. She’s a manager of a VERY busy racing stable. Could be that some of the other owners felt they weren’t being given a fair shake. Time could have been a factor in all of this. Love the diary, love what Dottie gave us, love Zenyatta and things she’s inspired in you and your life but don’t second guess this lovely lady who gave everything she had for over a year.
Me? I love the diary. I looked forward to every entry. And if and when Dottie has something to say I look forward to that entry too.
All of us here are extraordinarily spoiled by what Dottie has given us and the Moss’s. Jerry and Ann could have blocked visitors from Barn 55, and kept Zenyatta to themselves. Instead they chose to share their fabulous filly/mare with the rest of us. Be grateful, be thankful, be kind to each other and show the same respect to Dottie and the rest of Team Z that they HAVE ALWAYS shown us. Learn by their example.
Sorry if I sound preachy but this one just kinda rolled off my fingers.
Julie DuVall / Ontario, CA
Excellent points, Margaret! I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Julie DuVall / Ontario, CA
And as for Ann Moss being “under the weather”, I can understand why she wouldn’t want to go out in that storm if she wasn’t feeling well … esp. sitting in that breezy walkway area!

I want to help dispel any “rumor” and state the fact that on this past Friday- a mere two days ago- March 16, 2012, Jerry Moss, Dottie and John Shirreffs were all together both in the paddock and the winner’s circle. They were all one big happy family, chatting , laughing and enjoying Fordham Road’s big win!

Between them. They just needed to move
On, live in the present and future personally
And professionally and let Lanes End continue

Communicat everything Zenyatta.

@SHARI VOLTZ– I just learned of your dreadful news. RIP dear Trey. I know what that feels like to a teacher’s heart, to lose a young student. Unfortunately, I lost several to illness, auto accidents, and, unfortunately, suicide. But I have every confidence that you will handle the situation with love and grace and compassion for your “kids”. Z-hugs.
@ASHTON– we attended a concert last night, and from the first 2 notes of the intro. to “Nessun Dorma”, you know I was thinking of your Moma. And our girls may end up playing the Lady Vols in the NCAA if we make it on down the road. From the first strains of “Rocky Top”, she will be with me!
Shari Voltz from Ohio
Thank you Barbara. I just got off the phone with one of my parents. They are worried how the children are going to handle this. I will do my best. Trey was such a sweetheart. He was really loved by all. Thank you again. I will really need my Z Hugs tomorrow. Love, Shari

Shari Voltz…. I missed this somewhere but, what happened, if you don’t mind?
Abigail from Montreal
Shari: You have multitudinous HUGS from me. I also wanted to suggest a book that may help the children some. It’s by John Burningham and it’s called “Grandpa.” It’s about a little girl who loves her grandad and he dies near the end of the story, signified simply by his empty chair. The last drawing, on the end papers, shows the little girl pushing a baby carriage. I read it to my son when my dad died very suddenly. James was only 3 or so, but the book was so loved that today, at 31, it sits on his bookcase among his other books. Burningham writes & illustrates for the young but really not for 3 year-olds. He has been called a “James Joyce of children’s literature.” “Grandpa” and all of his other books can be appreciated by all age groups. ( I gave his “Come Away From The Water, Shirley” to most of my adult friends when they had “significant” birthdays and everyone just loved it! )
Ashton
Barbara,
Thank you for sharing that with me. I am her only child.I think she was always afraid I would grow up and move far away from her. For as long as I can remember, my parents would take me to Tennessee football, basketball, Lady Vol games and huge variety of concerts. Almost every time “Rocky Top” was played she would say to me …some day when you grow up and move away you will be watching Tn. play. Every time you hear “Rocky Top” ..it will make you so home sick that you have to come home to Tennessee. I think she was trying to hypnotize me. (LoL) She would ride around with the tops of blasting that song and singing off key at the top of her lungs and just laugh and laugh at my teenage horror…and repeat those words. I treasure those memories now. Your words stuck a very special chord in me. Both Nessun Dorma” and “Rocky Top.” I wish your girls great success up to the point where the two might meet. LoL! I love our girls almost as much…

Dear Signofthetimes,
Some of the most beautiful land on earth is at the TN, NC border. You probably already know this, but in case you don’t, the actual Rocky Top the song refers to is located at the border.
I chuckled at the thought of the looks you may have received from any NC or Duke fans playing that song.

I am so thankful we are keeping this site and contact with Zen and 12Z through the Lanes End and Zenyatta team! Let’s not upset the applecart by delving into suppositions and rumors. We can just take things at face value and enjoy whatever insights we are given. I simply believe the diary ended because dear Dottie has millions of things to do, and I’m sure this was discussed and an alternative was decided upon. Let’s continue with the wonderful relationships we have forged and enchange racing information, personal experiences, and requests for emotional support….that is what makes this the most wonderful site on the internet! I do not beliieve there is anything “secret” or that anything is wrong because Dottie/Zenyatta discontinued writing the diary. I don’t know why, since I am not connected to Team Z in any way, but I do believe from reading some past posts on diaries before and after the Queen gave birth to the little prince that some people were upset that Z would be bred back this year. Some actually believing she should not be bred for two or more years. And there were posts suggesting that weaning a mare and foal was “brutal.” The utmost care will be given to Zenyatta and the foal. If you look at the past life of Zenyatta and how she has been treated, she has had superior care and it is more than ridiculous to think that any of that will change now. I believe that in many ways the diary has been discontinued to protect those from being upset by events to come and while we will thankfully be kept up to speed on her condition, it just won’t be in such detail but it also appears that we are going to get photos of her and the prince galore and we won’t miss much of anything.
I loved reading the D/Z posts, and when it appeared we would lose this site and all the friends we have made, I was as upset as anyone, I felt like I was being separated from my family. But here we are, we’re all still here and we get to enjoy Zenyatta and her life through this site which is unprecedented.
If you’d like to start a rumor – start one that I was afraid to face the wet freeways and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and I was afraid I would melt in the rain and I didn’t go to the Baby Shower yesterday. I’m just a redneck, what can I say,
signofthetimes
Dear Rosemary,
You hit the nail on the head. That post on March
12 was out of control with very inappropriate uneducated
Responses to The equine breeding process. I went to bed
On March 12 wondering how Dottie was going to
Unravel it all and she decided not to. And gave it to
Lanes End. Lanes End as a breeding operation and
Farm goes back to Civil War days. They are trurely and
Expert Class AAAA breeding farm, a vet available on site
For every birth, how much better can you get. They demonstrated
On the Bloodhorse discussion they are just that. All of the
Staff are experts with a lot of experience.
I think the fans on this site, shot themselves in the foot.
It all so surprises me in the TB racing business that
People just decide to “buy a racehorse” without knowing
How to even pet them. Horses are very special creature,
Very expensive to take care of and to keep mentally
And physically sound.
Rosemary so very glad you shared your life’s experience
With horses and it was quite impressive.

Hi Sierra, I just read your story from yesterday and loved it!
Luv'n Zenny & Zunior
Z’sters, Quit blaming yourselves or saying things like someine may have ask a question in one of the previous diaries that was to much of a burden for Dottie to reply to. Dottie is a very intelligent lady and quite frankly she’s a darn good writer, so nothing that is ask of her in any of the posts would scare her away. Sometimes instead of having to keep devoting so much time and energy to writing a daily diary its just as easy to let a web team do the job for you. They can give you information and pictures/vidoes , its very time consuming. Dottie is a very busy woman. Not only are the fans of Zenyatta raving about her , now ‘Zunior’ is in the mix. I expect since Dottie is so busy with her job that she will drop in some and write a diary and let the web team handle the rest. Its the norm. We have all just been to spoiled. I expect it’s easier for Lanes End to have their webteam manage Zenyatta’s website as they already have one that manages their own website. The folks at Lanes End are right there on the premisis where ‘Z’ and ‘Zunior’ are at so they can give us all first hand info on them without having to send it to Dottie therefore she having to send it back to us.
Sandy
Why does everyone seem to think that Lane’s End is now managing this website? Do you think that they’re also in charge of selling merchandise through Zenyatta Shop? They have a farm full of horses to take care of, and I doubt maintaining websites is part of the deal.
I’m pretty sure that this website is a venture of Dottie and The Mosses, and that they have their own staff for such things. The recent update even said “…we asked Lane’s End for the latest news.”
It just seems like everyone is thanking and praising Lane’s End for the updates, but I think The Mosses and the rest of Team Z deserve the credit for keeping us in the loop.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Sandy, I’m sure that’s true.
