Happy weekend!
Six years ago today Zenyatta won the 2009 Lady’s Secret Stakes. It would be her second of three victories in this Grade I race which is now known as the Zenyatta Stakes. Watch it again here and head over to the career section for more details.
Enjoy!

Ann NC
Thank you dear friends for the Birthday Wishes.
I shared a round of sweet tea with my horses, lunch with some buddies and now to get the stubborn cows to the State Fair.
My Zenny friends are tops! MWAH! Luv ya.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Ann,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, belatedly but no less sincere!
Sweet tea with your horses, huh? Sounds like perfect company to me!
Good luck with the stubborn “diva cows”. Several years ago, I waited in line with mostly kids to milk a wonderfully patient cow. She was a beautiful Holstein as I recall. I had never milked a cow before (or a goat or anything else for that matter!). It was a great experience and not difficult at all since the cow was very co-operative.
Glad you had a nice day!
Hugs, Neighs, Moos, Woofs and Lots of NC Love

October 14 Cherokee Devotional
Contentment happens when our emotions give place to common things that in other times can draw little attention. It is releasing a deep inner peace that heals sadness and lifts a sagging spirit.
Contentment is an intensely personal thing, adjusting to different people in its most effective way. It rides a shaft of sunlight to pool on the gray bark of a tree, or it rises from laughter, deep and kind. It is nearly always unexpected and settles as softly as a bird lights on a limb.
It is a remarkable fact that we simply let contentment happen. Socrates called it a natural wealth, but most have called it a miracle.
Kinship with all creatures of the earth, sky and water was a real and active principle.

Dear Kathy,
Thank you for the devotional today. So true. Here we have so many birds, bunnies, and other critters, it’s harder to ‘not’ be amazed and in awe of God’s creation. We always try to go out and see the sunrise and sunset everyday. Hope you have a wonderful day. Pray God’s many blessings for you today – as always. with love, Elizabeth
PS One day, I walked out the front door, and there was a bobcat on the porch, another day a Lynx showed up at the back fence. Occasionally we see deer on our early morning hikes. I’m constantly in amazement of what He brings into our lives.
Kathy
Dear Elizabeth,
Oh! I want to come visit! We don’t see the wildlife you mentioned unless we travel into the mountain communities. All we have here are dogs, cats and the occasional opossum.
Have a wonderful day.
Hugs, Kathy
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Kathy.Sadly,I feel contentment is something we lack in modern society especially among the young. We might not have had much “stuff” when I was a child but we were always contented and marvelled at the natural world. You must all be happy to get CC back home in CA!Lovely videos of him arriving back at the Shermans and he has a much bigger stable now.He looks wonderful after his rest at TM.Zoe’s cubs won again woo-hoo!It’s doubtful Gleneagles will run on Saturday and young Joe is going to train point-to-pointers now.Aidan had 18 winners in his young days!Poor Loki is hating his diet and is taking it out on sis.Do you remember Nerissa the cat?He had 2 huge marmie brothers Rushton and Andy they both weigh nearly 17lbs.Little Holly weighs about the same as Fubu!James and Bob’s book has been published in the US and is getting good reviews a great Christmas gift for cat lovers.Mr Fibbs was busy baking doughnuts love their little furniture and they had a busy day in the internashunal bizness world.Fubu’s mum has a broken collarbone seems it’s been troubling her a while.Ray was getting a treat from Mama this morning. It’s another lovely cold crisp day over here still looks hot in CA!!Have a great day Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO.

The Greatest Breeder’s Cup Winner bracket is down to its Elite Eight and, yes, Our Queen is still in the race! She’s facing off against Personal Ensign while Goldikova and Miesque battle it out for the other spot on the Distaff side. On the Classic (male) side, it’s Cigar vs. Tiznow and Wise Dan against Lure. My prediction for the Final Four: Zenyatta vs. Goldikova and Cigar vs. Wise Dan. The final battle will be between Cigar and Zenyatta and we all know who will win, don’t we? :-) If you’re on Facebook, please vote and let’s give Zenny a nice big landslide victory!

@ Ann NC-Belated Happy Birthday!! Sounds like you had a great day!!
@ Debbie G–Happy Birthday TODAY!!!! Hope you’re going to see some horses today–you’re SO lucky to have so many great farms right where you are! Isn’t that story and video of Chromie just wonderful?? He looks so happy–and–Art Sherman must be over the moon!!! Just LOVE CC and hope he just beats everybody next year, except, of course, Ziconic who’s going to win the Triple Crown!! Wouldn’t a match up between those two at next years’ BC be something for the ages??? Wow!!!
@ Terry Crow–So sorry I missed your birthday–I just keep missing you–just missed you at the BC two years ago too!! Hope you will be at Santa Anita next year–want to give you a BIG hug and have a good visit about horses and old movies and old songs!!!!
I just keep watching the two videos of the lady’s Secret races–she just looked so happy and free–what a truly great example of a racehorse that LOVES what she is doing!!!
Our gorgeous “indian summer” weather is still holding. Glorious colors and sunshine every day. It was perfect for our 19th annual Trailing of the Sheep festival last weekend. Boss Mare Sue had a lovely friend here from NewYork for it so we hit everything. There was a lamb “dine around” Friday evening with free lamb tastings at several restaurants in town, three lectures over the course of the weekend, sheep dog trials on Sat. and Sun. with dogs and handlers from many states, a big fair in Hailey, 11 miles south, with over 70 vendors booths with sheep related products, many food booths and music and dancing from many cultures associated with with sheep ranching. Allof this led up to the main event the big parade on Sunday at noon, culminating with the herding of over 2000 sheep right down the middle of Main Street. This has been featured a couple of times on CBS Sunday Morning–it’s always quite a hoot!! Of course, every year people ask me if I’m riding Barnaby in the parade. There is nothing he would HATE more!! He doesn’t like walking on pavement, for one thing, and I don’t think he would appreciate 30,000 people cheering at him as he walked by! Actually, he would probably NOT be walking!!! I fear it might be a wold ride, indeed!
This weekend we have our annual Jazz Festival Weekend–actually a long weekend,as it started today. It’s always fun—then things will calm down until Thanksgiving (thank goodness), when, assuming that we get snow before then, ski season starts and it gets busy until spring “slack” season starts when the mountain closes in late April.
Barnaby and Traveller are loving all of the great weather. They are going back south on November 1 and Katie is shifting things around down there so that they can have their regular paddock back, which they will love–it will be their third winter there and they think it is theirs!! It will be fun to see everyone down there again.
Hope everyone here has a happy day and weekend to come. So love hearing from all of you and seeing our beautiful Zenny in photos and videos!! Kisses on the wind to you and your baby on board, sweet girl!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sue Noel,
Great to hear from you! Sounds like a lot of “big doings” going on in your town! Trailing of the Sheep Festival last week and now the Jazz Festival — Wow! Lots to keep you busy I would say.
All the best to Barnaby and Traveller as they return to their fall/winter quarters!
Hugs and Love
