Happy Birthday, Zellda!

Zellda at her birthday celebration. Her stall is the one that both of her brothers, Cozmic One and Ziconic, occupied at Mayberry Farm.

There was a birthday celebration at Mayberry Farm today! Zellda, Zenyatta’s 2017 filly, turned two, and as you’ll see in the video below, it wouldn’t be a party without a cake.

      Sheena!! Maternal eggcitement!! Lassie at Loch of the Lowes had her first egg hatch last night AND!!!! (drum roll). Maya at Manton Bay had her first TWO eggs hatch last night!! We’re off and running!!!!

        I’d like to know that too considering that he hasn’t had a reported timed workout in forever and is not listed on the card for ANY race either Friday or Saturday!

          Sandy, I noted that too; no works listed for ZI. Also, I checked the entries for Sat., the 18th at SA, Race 8. That’s a Grade III stakes race with 6 entrants. Love and Hugs, JB

          I think I may have stumbled on the misunderstanding that ZI is entered to race this coming Sat. I found an entry from May 14, 2016. ZI was entered in Race 8 at SA. He was No. 10. Marilyn, maybe that was what you read. I noticed the Facebook pages for Z, COZ and ZI haven’t been updated for a while. Love and Hugs, JB

        • I’m getting worried; I just don’t understand with all our pleading, no one gives us any news at all about Ziconic. I’m beginning to wonder if he is alive or not, or if he has been shipped out of the country. I don’t understand why they can’t do for Ziconic what they did for Coz. You notice the horses that Ann is involved with that things are handled differently then Ziconic, who Jerry named, and I think has control over. I really feel that it’s beneath their organization how they are handling this.

        • Thanks you all for all the info on Ziconic. We need a spy at Santa Anita and at this Trifecta Equine place. I would go if I didn’t live so far away. No one suspects a LOL (little ole lady) with a cane of being up to something!

          I think John will do well with Zellda. He was great with Zenny and has just done a good job with Paradise Woods. Perhaps he, like Larry Jones, has that special touch with fillies and mares.

    A very Happy Belated Birthday to sweet Zellda. She looks like her sire but acts like her mother’s daughter. The Mayberrys must be so delighted to have her. And John Sherriffs must be counting the days until she comes to him.
    In lieu of this year’s Kentucky Derby, this adorable video is just what is needed. What a personality and a great sense of humor Zellda has.

        Doris Day is a favorite of mine — so talented with such a happy presence and that radiant smile! I was a great fan of all her films and enjoyed her TV shows, too.

      Dear Barbara and Ann:

      I believe the DQ of Max and the suspension of jockey Saez are two wrong calls. The video shows Max veering out after War of Will’s jockey repeatedly recklessly made contact with his horse’s front legs striking Max’s rear legs. Saez would have to have eyes in the back of his head to see what was going on behind him. It’s no wonder Max’s legs were cut and a miracle that nobody went down. Thank God. Love and Hugs, JB

        Judy,
        I agree with you. War of Will seemed to really come up on and make contact with Max which caused him to react. Blame should be on the WOW jockey. As you said, Praise God that no one went down.

        Hope you are doing well and enjoying some nice spring weather. It has quit raining here for a day or so but right now my furnace is running. Yesterday morning it was 41 degrees! I do have to say everything is very very green.

        Safe trip to all in the Preakness.

        • I agree with you too… Max was interfered with from behind and he reacted by trying to move away, a natural response. Then with the slippery mud and 20 horses running… it’s no wonder they’re all trying to get out of each other’s way in those circumstances. I wish they’d stop running 20 horses in the Derby. I think Max won fair and square.

    Dear Everyone,

    Thank you so much for your prayers for my mom. She started radiation last week and will know after about 20 sessions if it is shrinking the tumor.

    The post position draw for the Preakness is tomorrow. I hope that Mike & Improbable get a good post post position. Also Catholic Boy will be returning to race. Good luck to him as well. So far, the forecast is calling for sun. I wish we would get more sun here! We’ve had a lot of rain this spring.
