Little Zen Pewter Figurine

Little Zen Pewter Figurine

Happy Friday!

New to the shop today is the limited edition Little Zen Pewter Figurine.

This “Little Zen” is an exquisitely detailed portrayal of the thoroughbred champion, Zenyatta sculpted by miniature specialist Maggie Bennett and painted by the acclaimed equine figurine painter Caroline Boydston. Their collaborative dancing depiction of the 2010 Horse of the Year is the culmination of countless hours of meticulous study and hand-work manifested in this unique and officially licensed fine art piece.

Zenyatta was renowned for her racing achievements as well as her physical conformation and the artists capture the essence of her muscular majesty in perfect miniature scale.

Golden finish.

Each piece in the collection is individually hand-cast from the finest quality lead-free pewter. From the arch in her neck through her powerful withers to the playful extension of her front leg, the mighty mare is detailed in exact precision. Upon the completion of casting, each miniature is painstakingly painted to recreate Zenyatta’s rich bay color enhanced by her distinctive facial stripe and two white socks. Boydston’s unique dimensional shading technique completes the intricate process.

For the most discerning collector, we offer the first 25 pieces in the edition in an elegant 18K gold-plated finish. This Golden version represents the ultimate in Zenyatta memorabilia.

Each figurine comes with its own engraved felt-bottomed pedestal as well as a numbered certificate card hand-signed by trainer John Shirreffs and his wife, racing manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, also known as the “Voice of Zenyatta” for the beloved on-line Diary.

Measures 2.5″ wide x 2″ tall. Limited to 250 total pieces in all, and available on a first-come basis with earliest orders receiving the lowest numbered certificates.

Edit: This item is no longer available. January 2013.

Oh so sad, thought Gentidonna would have been disqualified. She bumped him numerous times. Looked pretty hard at times. He came over but can’t a horse come over. I don’t think he came over too much. I didn’t see him hit anyone. She came over looked almost like she was knocking him out of the way.
Oh, he ran so good. Don’t know what to say. Love You Orfevre. Heart Breaking for you to lose like this.

      Dear Peggy N,
With the strictness of the Japanese stewards
Thought they would have DQ Gentildonna as she
Had more contact. Gentildonna actually bumped
      “O” and he changed leads.

What a great race for both and hope “O” keeps
On running. His jockey was great . !!!!!

          Dear Peggy N,

“O” really ran an awesome race, wish he would come to the Breeders Cup 2013.

He was very at home at his home track. From watching this race, I am not
sure the jockey in the Arc, rode him the best, or maybe it was the
          heavy going.

Thanks so much for getting us involved with watching “O” and the Japan

Dear Sheena, Thank You. I will never understand why she wasn’t disqualified. This morning read the Jockey was suspended for two days just for wreckless riding. The jockey even said he did come over and hit Orfevre.
I watched it from all the angles. It’s there. Can not rationalize why the stewards did not take her down. Guess I just have to move on sadly. Was hoping he could have been Horse Of The Year. (Twice) Orfevre surely would have earned it in my eyes. In the four years of his life he’s just been spectacular.

        Dear Peggy N,

When I read they suspended the rider and did not DQ the horse, I was also surprised. Makes know sense as the commentators were saying how strict
and by the book the Japanese stewards are. I just wonder if there was not
some race riding going on between the two jockeys. With the head on
view you can see, Gentledonna hit “O” first, but then “O” hit her, not sure if
that was jockey’s doing or the momentum.

It is sad, just very much hope they race him again next year.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING US WITH YOU ON THIS JOURNEY TO THE JAPAN CUP !!! DO YOU BELIEVE 100,000 SPECTATORS !!!

Peggy(N). Your golden boy ran a magnificent race. There is something dramatic and compelling about the way that Orfevre runs. Coming in such a close second does not change that or diminish his greatness. Let us hope that his owner decides to keep him in training and will try again to win the Arc next year.

Peggy (N). He’s definitely a super horse. I would also dearly love to see him race again. It’s just a pleasure to see that calibre of equine talent on display. He is also a very handsome chestnut with one of the best tails since Whirlaway.

Oh that tail!!!! Whirlaway…….you have that right,Max. Gorgeous!
On his way to the winner’s circle, Eddie Arcaro was jubilant:

“…not even a cyclone could head us off. I don’t think I ever passed as many horses in such a hurry. I might as well have been shot from a gun. What a horse! What a horse!”….Whirlaway.

Peggy, I hope you see, Big O one day.
It was quite a race. Two fierce competitors. For O to keep giving and for the filly to give what she did,at the asking of that jockey…well, they are both fantastic horses, all heart!

Australian Wins Jockey Competition in Japan
By Tracy Gantz The Blood-Horse Updated: Sunday, November 25, 2012 8:43 AM
Zachary Purton, an Australian riding in Hong Kong, won the 2012 World Super Jockeys Series at Tokyo Racecourse Nov. 25. During the four-race series that spanned the weekend of racing, Nov. 24-25, Purton earned 52 points and rode the winners of two races, one each day.

Purton captured the first and last races of the series. He first won the Nov. 24 Excellent Jockeys Trophy on 3-year-old Shonan Lambsey (Dance in the Dark—Focal Star, by White Muzzle). The following day he took the Prominent Jockeys Trophy aboard 4-year-old Santono Panther (King Kamehameha—Pisa No Venetian, by Sunday Silence).
Suguru Hamanaka of Japan finished second with 40 points. He won the Nov. 25 Marvelous Jockeys Trophy on 3-year-old American Winner. An American-bred son of Bernardini —Zappeuse, by Kingmambo, American Winner is a $140,000 graduate of the 2010 Keeneland fall yearling sale.

Ryan Moore of England was third with 37 points. Japan’s Isao Yamaguchi, who won the Nov. 24 Fantastic Jockeys Trophy on 4-year-old Bravosky (Stravinsky—Bravo Sunrise, by Sunday Silence), tied for sixth.

No American jockeys participated in the series this year. Jerry Bailey won the event in 1996.

Gentildonna Noses Out Orfevre in Japan Cup
By Tracy Gantz The Blood-Horse Updated: Sunday, November 25, 2012 11:24 AM

Several days before the Japan Cup, however, Solemia’s connections said that they felt she had lost some weight and that she probably wouldn’t like the expected firm turf. The Arc was contested on soft going. Solemia was never a factor in the Japan Cup, finishing 13th over the firm ground.
Solemia was one of five Europeans that challenged 12 Japanese runners. Joining her were Jakkalberry, Mount Athos, and Red Cadeaux, who had finished third, fifth, and eighth, respectively, in the Nov. 6 Emirates Melbourne Cup (Aus-I), and Sri Putra.

Red Cadeaux ran best of the foreigners in eighth and was involved in a second incident that the stewards investigated. Gerald Mosse, who rode Red Cadeaux, claimed foul against Tosen Jordan to his inside and Fenomeno to his outside, alleging that they squeezed him in the stretch.
The stewards ruled that Dark Shadow, racing outside of Fenomeno, came in, causing Fenomeno to impede Red Cadeaux. Dark Shadow ultimately finished fourth. The stewards did not feel the incident warranted a disqualification, but they fined Dark Shadow’s jockey, Mirco Demuro, ¥30,000.
Gentildonna and Orfevre finished 2 1/2 lengths in front of Rulership, who was followed by Dark Shadow, Fenomeno, Tosen Jordan, Beat Black, Red Cadeaux, Eishin Flash, Jaguar Mail, Jakkalberry, Mount Athos, Solemia, Oken Bruce Lee, Meisho Kampaku, Rose Kingdom, and Sri Putra.

    Arc winner Solemia retired
Posted by: AAP Filled in: Australian Horse Racing | 26/11/2012 at 8:30am
Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Solemia has been retired following her failure in the Japan Cup won by local filly Gentildonna.
Solemia finished 13th of the 17 runners and trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias announced her retirement immediately after Sunday’s race.
“I think she did very well in regard to that she is coming off of a hard race in the Arc and her first overseas travel,” Laffon-Parias said.
“It might have been different if she had had experience racing abroad and had more time to adapt to the fast track here.
    “She will retire now.”
Solemia beat Japan’s Horse of the Year Orfevre in the Arc and he again had to settle for second in the Japan Cup.

The winner’s trainer Sei Ishizaka said Gentildonna would be given a break and embark on an international campaign next year which could include the Arc.
“lthough the Japan Cup was a big challenge for a three-year-old filly, I was confident that she was up to the competition,” he said.
“After her battle against tough competition in the Japan Cup, she will be turned out until her four-year-old season in which, depending on her condition, I will go on with my plan for overseas challenges, perhaps in Dubai, France or the USA.”

I hope Gentildonna comes to the US.
She is one fierce filly!!! We must remember…her jockey did the asking and she delivered.
Wish the jock could have pulled a Calvin move, on the rail and kept it cleaner….Calvin makes it look oh, so easy!
Enjoy your time off, you beautiful girl and come to the USA!!!!

      Love NINA,

When I spoke to her she mentioned that with many of her “subjects” she only got
a few minutes to see them and then had to create her masterpieces. John actually let her spend quite a bit of time measuring every inch of Zenny.

So love the statue she created and my Zenyatta Bronze,

Asked NINA if she will do a bronze 12 Z, she is resting after creating the Zenny Statute,
I think The Mosses also have to make the request to her.

      TOO CUTE, KETA,

My comments regarding the Cigar Mile and Stay Thirsty’s win had nothing to do with
a “fan not liking him or he is always the under horse”. Stay Thirsty is not a miler and that is what the commentators talked about.

It had to do with the strategy used to get the win and the purpose, always the almighty $$$$$ and a better stud contract. Stay Thirsty deserves better than that.

Nothing will change the fact that Thirsty won the Cigar. Race horses like winning races as do their owners. We are we to question this fact of racing life? Thirsty has come out of the race in good order and is heading to a great life at Ashford. I am thrilled for him and his connections.

          Max,
The issue is not whether Stay Thristy won the race, the issue is
how is was planned and the purpose.

I prefer to listen and quote those who “KNOW”, the people who have been involved in racing 40 years as breeders/owners/handicappers/and knowing
everyone in the business, politics and relationships that exist and
those that were and no longer exist. ETC … They are the experts
          and “KNOW”.

Everyone has their own opinion and that is all it is one person’s
          opinion/bias/loyalty; without the above.

This is news of Groupie Doll and Stay Thirsty. I liked the part about Groupie Doll eating up her food before she left on the van. Very sensible filly in addition to being talented.
