Champion Dehere Dead at 23 in Turkey
By Evan Hammonds The Blood-Horse May 16 2014
Dehere, the champion 2-year-old male of 1993 and a top sire of 77 stakes winners, has died from a heart attack, according to a report from the Turkish Jockey Club. The 23-year-old son of Deputy Minister—Sister Dot, by Secretariat, has been standing in Turkey since the 2010 breeding season.
In North America his influence will carry on through his top-earning runner,
Kentucky Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady, the dam of grade I winner
Take Charge Indy (by A.P. Indy) and champion Will Take Charge (by Unbridled’s Song).
Dehere is also the broodmare sire of leading sire Midnight Lute .
Globally, Dehere has sired 1,615 foals and his runners have earned in excess of $100 million.

Terry Crow
I’ll ask the obvious question. Why was Dehere in Turkey?
KathyR
Dear Terry:
The big studs like Coolmore often sell unwanted or (to use the current word) unpopular stallions to places like Turkey or Korea where they are trying to establish a breeding industry. Just one of those “horse as commodity” things I find disturbing. Hugs, KathyR.

So sad to hear about Wise Dan.Praying hard he will recover well from his surgery.PU Dan.Max will be upset.Hugs Sheena.
Max
Sheena. When I read your post, and checked out other websites, upset does not begin to describe how I feel. Only Fink, LoPresti and the other Dans and the sisters feel worse. I’m devastated. I still have not got over losing Big D.
Danny, you get well soon. There is a lot of butt out there left for you to kick. Power Up Danny.

Dear Max:
Let’s pray to St. Francis to get Dan through this. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Very sweet of you. Alas, this is not what Protestants can do as we do not have the intercession of saints. We must ask always for relief only from God. Believe me, I’m begging for help for one of his wonderful creatures, our super horse Danny.
Power up Danny.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
I’ll pray to St.Francis for you for Dan. St. Francis loved animals of all kinds that is why he is one of my favorite saints. Love our Danny so much. I cried too when I first heard that Dan needed emergency surgery. Power Up Danny Boy. Love and Hugs, JB

From what I heard, Wise Dan’s colic was the “best” kind that it could have been, and they caught it early, so they are very hopeful. Power up, sweet boy.
RIP, Dehere. Such sad news all around us.

Zsters,
Seems to be so much going on now, fires in Cal, Dan in the Hospital, CC has a throat problem, gosh I ‘ve got to catch my breath. Prayers for all of the above!
I’ve got to tape the Preakness tomorrow as we are going to Sally B’s sons wedding and the conference hall where the reception is doesn’t have a regular bar where one could sneak in before dinner and watch the race. Sally wants ME to ask her son if we could have it played on the monitor in the wedding hall. I said “no way” I don’t want the kids mad at me and she said “better you than me”, ha, ha. No, I’m not going to ask, I get myself in enough trouble without starting a row at a wedding!! So my heart will be screaming “GO CC”, but my lips will be sealed. We could be in more trouble as Sally informed me that we will be sitting at her ( mother of the grooms) table instead of her sisters and bro. I told her we can’t do that it’s not proper but she said her son insisted, so I’m sure I’m already going to be in trouble. Should be a fun affair!!
My love to beautiful Mama Z and darling EaZter Lilly, she is really a knockout. And to handsome Ziconic and CoZ, and to my Indy.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sue Fredrick:
I know, very upset about Delrene and Danny Boy and anxious for CC. Join you in prayers for all. Wishing Sally, the bride and groom and all of you a fine day tomorrow. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Max.I hear the news about Dan is more promising now,he will need 6-8 weeks recuperation. He is in the best place,I know how devastated you are,I would feel the same if it were Kauto or Frankel it brings back memories of St Nick and his gallant fight, will keep Dan in my prayers, don’t worry that boy is a fighter!
Have you heard Shorty is riding Long Run in the Grand Steeplechase de Paris on sunday something to do with Sam and his amateur status. One of Moose’s twitter friends Top Notch Tonto is running in the Lockinge tomorrow will have to support him!Was a bit annoyed with Hovis today and his views on small women.I am very tiny but do not possess legs like steel girders!!! would love to see him at Badminton though I’ll forgive him!Free the Moose.Sheena.PU Dan.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena and Max:
Dan is a fighter. Will keep him in my prayers. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Sheena. My only consolation on this dark day is that Dan is as tough as nails. I hope that Dan can recover like Paynter. Power up Danny. I just want him to live. He’s done enough to be one of my horses of any year. Power up Danny.
Saw that the French won’t let amateurs ride horses in their races. Steeplechasing is a risky business as we all know. They are concerned about the safety of the horses. Shorty on the other hand thinks that horses are replaceable.
Hovis is just annoyed with those particular women. He’d have a positive attitude to his most loyal fan Sheena. No doubt you would show up to see him with carrots.
Free the Moose! Neigh x 9. Power up Danny.

@Sue Fredrick–Art Sherman says not to worry about CC’s throat. I’ll try to e-mail Delrene and report back if I hear anything. Hugs.

Yes, Mr. Sherman was very upbeat in the DRF article I posted on Page 9; nobody knows CC better than he, so that is a good sign. Love and Hugs, JB

WISE DAN UPDATE horseracinghl tweets Friday May 16 2014
Charlie LoPresti says Wise Dan out of recovery. “When I left him he was banging around his hay net, trying to rub his muzzle off.”
Added LoPresti “Everybody I talked to said unless it’s reoccurring colic, he should recover and not be career ending.”
LoPresti said as long as Wise Dan got through the night with no complications, they would let him start trying to eat something tomorrow.

Dear Max:
Regarding Wise Dan. We have just had a huge flock of black cockatoos fly directly over my house. They are a large bird, and quite beautiful with matt black feathers, tinged with grey, and lemon tails. We call them the Birds of Hope, because when we had the devasting bush fires here in Canberra, the cockies were the first birds that returned to the city. I think they’re a message to Dan to keep up the fight against all odds. Hugs, KathyR
Max
Kathy. Great image. I have a soft spot for all black creatures from birds to bears to panthers. May they bring good luck to Dan and hope to all who are caught up by these terrible California fires.

Dear Sheena:
The world is an upside-down place – I think that’s why I love the Black Cockies so much – they are rare in the suburbs, and since the fires have only come when I’m feeling very down about something. So I do think they bring Hope. Sleep well, we’re into a race day here – Scone (NSW), Doomben (Queensland), Morphettville (South Australia) and Caulfield (Victoria) – but as always, safe journey to equine athletes. Hugs, KathyR

wow -the black cockatoo are pretty. i’d never heard of them or seen a pic until today.
i used to have a white cockatoo named Ivory. she was such a sweetheart. rob & i bought her as a baby & handfed her. we had her for 3.5-4yrs.
the 1st words out of her mouth at 6mos were “jesus loves you”. i miss her.
we had to get rid of her & a black headed caique we also had because i became allergic to them & i got really sick. i was heatbroken but we found them good homes with ppl who had the time for them & could take care of them properly as i couldnt do that anymore.
ivory was a gem & “Trouble” was cute little boy who could drive me nuts. lol
praying for wise dan, delrene, & whoever else near the fire, plus those zsters who are under the weather.
god bless ,vamp
i think im rooting for CC. i AM hoping he’ll do well.
i’ll make my final decision when i see how the other horses look like in the post parade.

Really was a damper on my day to read that Wise Dan had to have surgery and especially for the colic. Hate colic about as much as I do laminitis. Several things going for him is 1.) Dan is a fighter 2.) Charlie Lopresti is there for him and will never give up on Dan either.
Power Up Dan.
Also thoughts and prayers to all facing the fires in So Cal and that our four legged friends are safe as well.

Was watching this one on my computer, and my heart just sank when the track announcer kept saying how far back Revolutionary was (and of course, we couldn’t even see him). I know he is “closer” but never expected this kind of race. What a “come from behind” effort that was!!! Yea Revolutionary!!!!
