    WISE DAN-MORE INFO
One discussion I heard on this said that it was the quick response by Dan’s team that made a difference. They didn’t delay and give him meds first. When this happens, the affected part of the intestine can die & have to be removed.
With Dan, they were able to go in & straighten out the twisted part before any further damage was done. So they did not have to cut or resection the intestine.
Finally a good news colic story!

BGG, Thanks for the additional update on Dan. Always so good to hear these stories about the good owners and trainers. Hope he is feeling better soon. No better place to be than R&R in Lexington. Look what they did last year for Rachel.

We are so fortunate that our beloved Zenyatta and her kids have all stayed very healthy.

Verrazano Set for European Debut in Lockinge
By Myra Lewyn The Blood-Horse May 16, 2014
Two-time United States grade I winner Verrazano , a prominent 3-year-old last year, makes his first European start May 17 in the JLT Lockinge Stakes (Eng-I) at Newbury.
Initial plans called for Verrazano, winner of last year’s Wood Memorial Stakes and Haskell Invitational Stakes (both gr. I), to stand stud in 2014 at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky. But he was instead shipped to Coolmore’s Ireland-based Ballydoyle Stables to be trained by Aidan O’Brien for a European campaign.

Sheena. Good news this am. In morning telephone media call, LoPresti says that Dan came through the night and is looking for his feed. He’s also banging on his hay net. Good signs. Get well boy. We are all praying for a complete recovery for the grandest of ole chestnuts. Power up Danny.

This was great news. If I understood LoPresti correctly, just repositioning Dan to get him onto the table straightened out his intestines so they didn’t really have to do much other than close him back up. Power Up Danny!!!

    May 17 Cherokee Devotional

It is useless to put a warped container inside a good one in hopes of straightening it. It only spoils the good one. The stuff they are made of has to be workable if either is to be saved. We can be affected, even encouraged by outside influences, but real change is from the inside. It is possible to wait a long time for a situation to change so that we can change. It won’t happen. We have to change first-our thoughts, our attitudes, and very often, our reasons. If we are ever to be totally free of u tso a se di, the Cherokee expression for miserable or unhappy circumstances, we will have to remold our own human spirit to the will of the Great Spirit. It is the only help that is not based on money or dependency on someone else who is equally weak.

Great Spirit, once more behold me on earth and learn to hear my feeble voice.

Know about that bushfire smoke – it’s a sting the eyes, catch the throat and difficulty in breathing type of thing – even when we don’t have fires in the Canberra region the prevailing winds can blow the smoke from Victoria or NSW into the city – distances of 100 to 200 miles for it to travel. Just adds to the general feeling of unease. Prayers for rain and safety for all. Hugs KathyR.

JudyB. Dan may have been one of the reasons that Frankel did not travel to race in the 2012 Breeders Cup turf mile. Juddamonte is a big supporter of the Breeders Cup. Dan however was then coming off beating top class European horses at Woodbine. He also had consistently faster times. Cecil may have read the tea leaves and decided not to risk a perfect race record with a possible loss to Dan. Frankel had his stud career to consider. As it was, Dan again beat the best that Europe and the UK had to offer other than Frankel and set a record time in the BC turf mile. Dan is just an extraordinary horse with the courage and character of a real hero. Hope that he is also a miracle horse.

    God Is Near

    It’s going to be ok.
    How can you know?
Because God so loved the world.

I pray that you will begin to understand how incredibly great His power is to help those who believe Him. Ephesians 1:19

My prayer is that you will find some word, some verse, or some thought that will convince you that God is very near. I pray that as you read you will be reminded that the same voice that stilled the rage on the Sea of Galilee can still the storm in your world. Be assured – He is closer than you’ve ever dreamed.

Dear Max.There has been a lot of criticism of young Joe’s ride on Verrazano, many would like to see Ryan Moore on board at RA,will most probably go for the Queen Anne,Aidan is very pleased with him.The Lockinge is a straight mile as in UK straight!!Sir Henry and Juddmonte never considered racing Frankel in the US and any way our racecourses are entirely different, yours are much smoother and faster, the UK’s are very undulating that’s why it was so great to see Verrazano coping so well today.PU Dan Free the Moose.Sheena.

Sheena. Agree with you about Joe. Ryan Moore might be a better fit for V. However will they change?
I think that you will find that Cecil did consider the Breeder’s Cup for Frankel for a time, but ruled it out. Dan had won that September over some very nice European horses at Woodbine which is very much like a UK turf course. They can do a mile on one turn at Woodbine and the course is not flat and groomed. It is possibly the top turf course in a North America. Dan has proved himself on that course twice. In 2013 he set a race and track record. This year his time in the Woodford was faster than last year. That is why it is very sad that Dan is ill now. He’s actually getting better as a racer. Free the Moose and Power Up Danny.

Mike Smith will ride Goldencents in the upcoming Met Mile on Belmont Day. Goldencents will leave for New York at the end of the month.

Dear Max.Thanks for that article.I knew the idea had been mooted around but could never see it happening.I would have loved to have seen Frankel try a mile and a 1/2 race.I was watching Sea Bird’s Derby and Arc win the other night, the greatest Derby winner I’ve ever seen.Even the great Brigadier attempted a mile and1/2 and won!!Let me know who wins the Preakness.PU Dan Free the Moose.Sheena

Sheena. California Chrome won and won well. So nice to see “little guys” win these races. This horse is quite remarkable.

Sheena. Another consideration might have been Cecil’s health. He was ill at that time and a trip to California might have been too much. It’s a long trip and a big adjustment for a horse. There has been criticism of Frankel too for not going to the Arc. The Arc is a very difficult race to win at the best of times. Winning 14 races anywhere is a huge achievement. Cecil was right not to risk Frankel’s record under those conditions. And Frankel retired sound to a nice part of the world.
