dear max ruler of the world ryan moore and aidan beat them all!!!poor dawn approach ran a poor race was a slow run race and he went out of control rather a messy race!!! hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. Oh happy day for Ballydoyle. I suspected that they might pull it off but wasn’t sure which horse would do it. Ruler, another son of Galileo, is also a grand ole chestnut. His dam is American, Love Me True. Chestnuts are on a roll.
Ryan Moore rode Lines of Battle in the KD.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max and Sheena:
Ruler made his Dam and Sire proud. Beautiful Chestnut. Hugs, JB
Max
Here is a nice photo of Ruler of the World winning the famous Epsom Derby in all of his chestnut glory. Maybe we’ll see Z’s Red do the same in the KD in a few years.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/horseracing/10093190/Epsom-Derby-2013-Ruler-Of-The-World-storms-to-victory-as-Dawn-Approach-fails-to-fire.html
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Great shot – thanks Max! Apparently this horse believes his name :-)
Max
Sandy and Sue. Listened to an analysis of his pedigree by the Brits. Although his sire, Galileo, also won the Epsom Derby, the bloodstock analyst said that Ruler’s stamina comes mostly from his dam and her US sire and dam line with relatives such as AP Indy and Lemon Drop Kid. His Galileo side is mostly US too, such as Sadler’s Wells and Urban Sea. It all goes back to Kentucky.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Congratulations on a great win, beautiful boy.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I’m sure you were smiling at the pedigree info Max gave us above Sue :-) A most impressive horse!
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Wonderful photo of Ruler of the World. Another gorgeous Chestnut. Max, what is the equipment Ruler has around the sides of his head (looks like a flat shadow roll)? Never seen this before. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. They’re called cheek pieces or French blinkers. Like Z’s sheepskin nose band, they help the horse to concentrate and not be distracted during a race. I read that Ruler is the first Derby winner to wear them, although l’ve seen them on other Coolmore horses and some jumpers. Looks like they are color coordinated to his coat color.
Ann NC
Thanks,JB for asking,I noticed those and really like them.
Thanks , Max for the explanation.
Peggy, that was a fantastic win by St, N. Abbey, what a final charge and #3!!!
Great weekend of racing.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Thank you. Learn something new all the time from you and others on Z’s Blog. Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Ann
Both these races were just great weren’t they. Can’t wait for Orferve to race in about 3 weeks too.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max
Wasn’t this a great win by Ruler of the World. Just gorgeous Chestnut. Another one to root for.
Abigail posted the race of St Nicholas Abbey too on the other post.
These were both great races.
It was good to see Joshua Tree too.
Max
Peggy. I like Ruler. He ran well. There’s another connection to the Epsom Derby at Lane’s End in addition to AP and Lemon Drop Kid. Z’s great grand daddy, Roberto, won that race in 1972. Z looks very much like Roberto. He was a wonderful racer. He handed the great Brigadier Gerard his only loss.
SunnyB.
Just sweet :)

Sheena and other Mad Moose fans. This is the latest. Owners think that Moosie is just too clever and cheeky. Taking steps to cajole him to race at Royal Ascot.

Moosie is an Independent Thinker. Although his trainer might refer to him as an Independent “Stinker”. I love his attitude. Hugs, JB

Thank you. Great photo. Moose has attitude. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. They may need a horse whisperer to get through to Moosie. Winning the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot would be a great accomplishment. It’s over 2 miles, but that is routine for a jumper. Run Moose run!
Terry Crow
Love this horse’s name.

sheena.davies(wales)
dear max I do hope nigel has told moosie of his plan!!!10th derby for ballydoyle their horses dictated the pace much too slow for dawn approach he burned up so much energy pulling kevin’s arms out one could never say if he would have stayed the distance was a shame to see him fade and finish practically last. the UK horse liberatarian ran very well maybe the st leger for him.st nick’s abbey ran well to win the coronation cup for the 3rd time when I think how frankel beat him at York last august!!!hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. His sire, New Approach, was not the easiest of horses with which to deal. I had read that Dawn Approach did not have those same quirks, but he looked a little upset today. Maybe the racing gods were just settling the score from the St. Leger? Read in one Brit paper that the Ruler of Dubai today met the Ruler of the World, and his hopes for a Derby win were crushed by a handsome chestnut colt. AP Indy and Lemon Drop Kid must be happy horses in their stalls with this major world class racing success in their family.
Ann NC
Nice win by Ruler. Hope he had some lemon drops, mints and twizzlers!
Good job buddy.

Trina,
Am confused, thought you and Keta talked to the Webmaster repeatedly
and had Sign removed from the site???
A lot of us really loved her and everything she brought to the site.
You, Keta and Max had your issues with her and also had issues
with Kathy R and GS, who left this site.
We understood that you and Keta had her removed from the blog, while
the others left ????
How could she be here now ????? Very strange comments by you, Trina
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
????? You REALLY think anyone is “buying” this?
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Hi, Sign! I guess you keep the webmasters busy with your different names. This is the fourteenth to date in my count. Would you like me to list them?
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Sign, newly aka GerryT , forgive me, but we had no issues with dear Kathy R and dear GirlSaratoga. I personally tried to encourage them to stay on this site when
comments made by you led to misunderstandings and their hurt feelings.
To Kathy R and Girl Saratoga: If you read this, please know you are missed and we all hope you will start posting again. Love to you in Dumplinghood, Trina
Trina Nagele in So Cal
I should mention Keta and Max especially have repeatedly asked KathyR to return. GirlSaratoga fortunately did return in April. Perhaps life events have kept her from posting more recently, I really don’t know, but I look forward to both KathyR and GirlSaratoga joining us again.
Max
Trina. You are right as usual. I have no “issues” with anyone on this site. The only “issue” has been Sign in all her incarnations. If she was removed from this site, she can take full credit for that. Let’s forget this distraction and get back to the horses.
Louise Castello
Unbelievable!

Pati-15 days to graduation
Oops, seems I have gotten off track with my countdown to graduation day. Sorry about that guys. X-)
I have great news! Mia was adopted by a volunteer at SHERR! They are going to have loads of fun together! It was love at first sight! Champ has a 50/50 chance of adoption. Depending on his condition, he might be adopted out OR he will stay with SHERR and be a proud representative. Either way, he’ll have a great life!

Max
Pati. Always nice to hear good news. How’s Gus doing?
Pati-15 days to graduation
Good! He’s still got his wrinkles and his sassy ole’ man attitude. We gave him a good cleaning yesterday, and he roamed the grounds a bit. He’s a happy old man.
Terry Crow
Old man attitude. Ah, yes I know it well.

today’s prayer:
Prayer of Trust
Lord, I trust in You. I believe in You. I hope in You. You are my confidence, my assurance. I lean upon You, for You are my Rock; I depend upon You, for You are my Provider; I delight in You, for You are the joy of my life. My heart rests in You; my faith responds to You, my soul rejoices in You.
I trust You in life – for the wisdom of Your ways, for the blessings of Your favor, for the sufficiency of Your grace, for the power of Your Spirit, and for the endurance that comes from Your strength.
I trust You for all things.
I trust You with all things.
I trust You in all things.
I trust You through all things.
I trust You above all things.

Dear Sheena, my maiden great aunts, the Currie sisters Mary and Flora, of Scottish heritage as you would guess, sailed from New York on the Queen Mary (also built in Scotland!) to be on hand for the celebrations in London of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. Long live your beloved Queen!
Ann NC
Sheena, God Bless The Queen. Hope you have had a nice day. I love the photo of her meeting Black Caviar,a wonderful horsewoman she is.
Trina, your poem for JS is terrific.
Thanks for sharing your story about your great aunties.
sheena.davies(wales)
dear trina thank you for sharing the story of your great aunts coming over here for the coronation.I wish my memories were more vivid (I was just 3 years old)! I remember attending a party in the village where my grandparents lived.there’s going to be a service of thanksgiving at Westminster abbey on Tuesday looking forward to it.hugs sheena
dear ann loved seeing the queen meeting black caviar at royal ascot too she had to wait for nelly to finish parading before coming into the winner’s enclosure a magic moment!!love and hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. The Queen was at Epsom yesterday for the Derby. She looked well. I hope that she goes to the Abbey in one of the royal coaches so that we can see some of the horses. Do you recall that horse at the royal wedding in 2011 who had had enough with the ceremony, threw his rider and bolted back through the after wedding procession to his stable? I loved that move. No one was hurt except perhaps the pride of his rider. BBC guy said that the horse probably just wanted to see his friends.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
I remember that! Glad no one was hurt.
sheena.davies(wales)
de.ar max yes I remember the incident with the horse at the royal wedding!am not sure whether there will be any coaches involved on Tuesday I do love the Windsor greys they use at royal ascot.seems dawn approach will not run for a while no one can understand what upset him so much he’s a very laid back horse normally.
I well remember Roberto winning the derby in 1972 and beating the mighty brigadier in what used to be the benson and hedges gold cup. there was a good documentary about the queen and her great love of horses her one ambition to breed a derby winner
maybe one day!!!hugs sheena
Max
Sheena. Here is a video of Zenyatta’s great grandfather winning the Epsom Derby in 1972 by a nose. Video is not the best but you can see that distinctive Z family blaze coming home. Great win. Roberto was very determined. As you know, Vincent O’Brien was Roberto’s trainer. This is one of Coolmore’s 10 Derby wins which you mentioned.
