Our favorite new item in the shop is the limited edition Hall of Fame 2016 Commemorative Pin. We made only 250 of these pins, inspired by Zenyatta’s Hall of Fame plaque. It’s the perfect stocking stuffer for a Zenyatta fan!

Remember to order by Friday, December 16 for holiday delivery.

Come back to the blog next week for some jolly new photos from Lane’s End Farm!

    December 20 Cherokee Devotional

When we leave the old and familiar, something in us rebels. Even if it was not good, we recall bits and pieces that meant something to us. In leaving them behind, we leave a little of ourselves behind as well.
This seems to be a particular challenge around holidays. Our expectations of what a holiday should be like-even if we’ve never had one like that-are high. It takes courage and common sense not only to face our unrealistic expectations but also to shape new, more realistic ones. But it can be done-and you can do it. The Spirit will guide and strengthen you. Always trust the Spirit.

I will not be the first one to break this treaty.

This website has brought much comfort. I have enjoyed reading everyone’s posts over the last 4 or five years. It is time to be more than just an observer, standing on the outskirts of the Zenyatta township.

Dear Kathy.I think I left all of myself in my old home.Although I have settled down here my heart will always remain in Priory Street Such sad news from Berlin last night.I am amazed how we in the UK have saved so far.We learned a lot from the “troubles”in the 70s and 80’s.They say the terrorist is still at large and the Russian ambassador getting killed in Turkey.
Storm Barbara is due here Friday gales and rain I think. The DOP are out in the Gambia they have seen blue 5F she was involved in the polygamous situation at Glaslyn this year.Lots of British birds flying around but difficult to recognise.Felix is getting loads of cards and treats and busy packing her calenders.Tom posted a photo of one of the cats enjoying their treats at the rescue and there’s a programme on the radio on Christmas Eve with him talking about the Bear.He was dreading the thought of having him PTS but the Bear died during the night. His final act of kindness.
Zoe has been busy and Mr George is in hospital with pneumonia. The Skipton Poets guild have been messaging each other and those GIF’s have been coming through to me.One of my FB friends rescued a stray pup over the weekend and I suppose because he said he couldn’t give Pebbles a home he has been trolled.I have shared a video of Pebbles with their own dog Poppy. Our Christmas films are on now I watched Casablanca on sunday. It’s boxing day I am looking forward to should a great race.Have a lovely day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly.Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

    Dear Sheena,

Yes, our childhood homes are often some of our sweetest memories. Horrible to hear of the attack in Berlin, also the killing of the Russian ambassador. Oh, stay safe in the storm! I hope all the birds out and about will be safe, too! Felix is quite the celebrity. You know you have arrived when they do a calendar featuring YOU! Yes, I read of Bear’s passing. May he rest in peace. Was sorry to read of Mr. George’s pneumonia. Loving all the GIFs! Your FB friend deserves credit for rescuing the stray and we’ll hope permanent arrangements can be made for the Pebbles. I will look for your video! Enjoy the Christmas films and the race on boxing day! Have a great day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Masochistic to be disqualified from BC Sprint
By Jay Privman Daily Racing Form ‎December 19, ‎2016
Masochistic will be disqualified from his second-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, and his trainer, Ron Ellis, faces a potential penalty from the California Horse Racing Board after two separate tests confirmed small amounts of a legal steroid in the horse’s system, Ellis said Monday.

      Dear BGG,

This is too bad. The legal steroid should have been eliminated after 68 days, but unfortunately, minuscule traces (picograms, no less) remained. Hope the penalty for Mr. Ellis is a fair one. Masochistic ran a good race; I feel bad for him and his connections.

This is the time when we start to weigh and balance the year coming to an end. We reflect on what we did and didn’t do, what things went well and what did not. We can learn both from what went well and what did not. Our challenge is not to let the things that didn’t go well overpower us with guilt and grief. Yes, we need to acknowledge our mistakes and try to make amends where we can. But we also need to let the past be the past, and step on into the future. Leave behind the feelings that simply drag you down, then take the lessons you’ve learned this year into the future. They will serve you well.

The sky was the home of the god who held a watchful care over every star. They heard him whisper int the gentle breeze, or howl in the tempest.

Dear Kathy. Not a minute to visit the furries today.I had visitors this morning and time has flown.Security has been stepped up in the UK.Very sad to see the Police officers with guns outside Canterbury cathedral in this season of goodwill to ALL men.The terrorist is still on the loose a Tunisian they believe. We have had 45yrs of experience of terrorism in the UK and seem to be a more difficult target.I am just happy to live in a quiet rural town.
It’s clearing now after a wet morning Mullins is sending over Vroum-Vroum Mag for the Christmas hurdle no signs of Faugheen yet.Concerned.JP has a good hurdler in the race called Yanworth but Alan King isn’t sure how he will handle the track.Going is expected to be soft.
We are all trying to persuade Michael to keep Pebbles lovely pic of Poppy and Pebbles kissing him last night,Someone had trolled him on messenger.I know he will get a good home for her.Carmen is recovering well from her op.Tail wagging away.Rupert tagged in a post about Welsh songs. We sang Calon Lan(Pure Heart) at my dad’s funeralOne of his friends Huw knows Bryn Terfel well. Both Her Majesty and Prince Philip have heavy colds and have delayed plans to travel to Sandringham.Hope you have a Great day Love and hugs to you kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

        Dear BGG,

Thanks for a most interesting link. Enjoyed seeing all these covers, especially some of the harness racers like HickorySmoke who looked quite handsome — I didn’t know of him since that was back in the ’50’s. Loved seeing Secretariat, of course. Wonder why FunnyCide didn’t appear the year before Smarty Jones? Of course, they missed the boat when they didn’t put Queen Z on the cover!

I noticed that the price for a copy was 25¢ from the ’50’s into the ’60’s when it went up to 40¢. The price went up over the years until by the 2000’s, the price was no longer on the cover. Don’t know how much a copy costs now.

Again, thank you for the posts.

Yes, would rather they be ridden; they enjoy it. Did you read where some of them want to go faster than a lope. I bet Exaggerator is one like that. Love and Hugs, JB

Yes, I did. I’ll bet several of them would love to have a good run. It sure does seem to keep the weight off.

Judy, A special Merry Christmas to you. It is always a joy to see your posts of interesting articles and your kind replies to the posts of others.

          Blessings!

    December 22 Cherokee Devotional

When we were children, everything seemed magical. Now we are grown, and the light that revealed so much to us at that early age seems to be dimmer. And we look for it less. It is true that much has happened since we were children. We see more evil around us, and we are aware of what is going on in all parts of the world. Perhaps we feel more fear now that we are adults.
But during the time when people were fighting Indians, the Indians’ fears were as great as ours are today. And here I am, an Indian, asking you not to be afraid. Trust that the events and situations of the world today will be tamed as other situations and events have been tamed as our situations and events have been tamed in the past. Though we may not be able to see how, they will become part of life in the most ordinary ways and in the best ways. This is true because today, as it always has been, the One Spirit still reigns and in the Spirit lies our security.

We were seated on rich skins, of animals unknown to me, before the door of the Great Spirit.
