Ken Ramsey on scratching of Stephanie’s Kitten from Woodford Reserve Turf Classic:
“That’s an issue between me and (trainer) Chad Brown.”
shirleeinindy
BGG,
Something big must be going on for them to scratch both of those horses, Coal Port was scratched along with International Star and one other today. Ken is very easy going but sounds like he has had some disagreement with the trainer.

Good luck to all of you betting, though. Hope mama Zen has a tv so she can watch……..memories for her!! Let’s hope whoever wins could be a Triple Crown candidate. hugs to all

Enjoy, Sue. Yummy!

Divisidero, a son of Kitten’s Joy, just won the American Turf Stakes on the KD undercard. He came out of the clouds to win it on a hand ride. Magnificent run and another win for super sire, KJ.
It’s a beautiful spring day at Churchill.

Congrats, Champ. Born to run!

Humana Distaff Stakes taken by a head by Dame Dorothy, ridden for Bobby Flay by Javier Castelano, over Judy The Beauty. Next time for Judy. She does not seem to like Churchill dirt.
Sun is now gone at Churchill. Hope that this does not mean rain later.

Curious how VE will handle the pressure and high expectations riding American Pharoah. He does not do well in traffic or from behind as with CC and Cozzie. He’s had some good wins today, though.

Dear Kathy,
Happy Derby day, hope your having fun and that your pick wins. Glad to hear that your aunt is feeling a lot better. Continued prayers for Nissy. It is well and I hope your pick wins the Derby. At the end, all that is wished for is that they all come home safely. God already knows who will win and all we’re all trying to do is see if we guessed right.
Remain Blessed always. It is well. Much love.
Kathy
Dear Maureen,
Thank you so much! I think they all ran well. Was rooting for Dortmund but am fine with American Pharoah as I have such high esteem for his owners. I hope we have a triple Crown winner this year. Will be rooting for him in the Preakness. As you say, they all came home safely and that is the main thing. My aunt is better. She’ll be moved into a rehab center today or tomorrow. I am blessed. Have a wonderful day. Love and hugs, Kathy.
sheena.davies(wales)
Huge congratulations to American Pharoah!!Hugs Sheena.
Debbie S.
Congratulations to American Pharoah. My favourite Gary Stevens and Firing Line came in a good second and Dortmund, a great horse and third.
I was screaming so hard my dog Tully came in and jumped all over me!!!
So happy they all came home safe!

Ol’ Man River finished last in the Guineas. Weren’t you supporting him? What happened to him? He’s a good horse.
One thing about the KD. It’s never really over ever. The talking is only starting about this one.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
I am worried for Nissy too. Poor baby. Love and Hugs, JB
Debbie S.
Congratulations to Will and Kate,on a beautiful baby girl!
What an exciting day!
shirleeinindy
I can really pick them. Upstart finished last! Carpe Diem did not run well and for all his inexperience, Materality finished better than the other Pletcher horses.
Perhaps that post about the X factor, the large heart and curly ears is true. AF has Zenyatta large curly ears.
Max
Chin up. I was supporting Upstart too. His breathing issues might have had an effect, but we will never know.
Today was great. 6 hours of coverage. Maybe next time they should have less Tara and Johnny and more about the pedigrees of the horses?
Fun fact from the race. The race time record holder by a wide margin continues to be Secretariat.
shirleeinindy
Max,
Thanks for the good words.
The coverage on NBCsports was pretty good. Once they switched over to NBC it was really bad. I don’t care what celebs were there, what they were wearing, who they were picking etc. Tara and Johnny are just plain insulting to the sport.
Max
It looks like a lot of good horses are suddenly finishing last. Bayern finished last today. Ol’Man River and Upstart did the same thing. Cozzy has company. Next time for all of them.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, next time. Hope they came out of the race OK. Love and Hugs, JB
Deb E.
Tara and Johnny are figure skating champions, and I have no idea why NBC decided to add them to their KD coverage for yet another year, but I guess they are there not to comment on the horses, but to do celebrity interviews, fashion critiques, and “What’s Happening at the Derby” segments. Evidently, they do bring in younger viewers who normally wouldn’t watch horse racing. I imagine that NBC will have them doing their color segments at the Preakness and the Belmont, too. I will say, though, Johnny, your rose and mint julep helmet hat was WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY over the top!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Shirlee,
I agree with you about the “celebs” and their input. What do ice skaters have to do with horses? I wish they would forget about all the so-called fashion silliness and superficial glitz. The only reason for some of this is to appeal to the younger set, I guess — too bad the younger set has such poor taste. The horses and their human teams are the main event!
Congratulations to Mr. Zayat, American Pharoah, Victor E., and all connections! So happy for Mr. Zayat, so deserving, especially after all he did to bring Paynter back. Congrats to Pioneer of the Nile, too. Am sure he is a proud papa!
Gary Stevens on Firing Line did very well, also. Dortmund is a gorgeous chestnut. One of my favorites, Frosted, did quite well to finish fourth — he almost got to third. I am so glad that everyone crossed the finish line safely and apparently in good shape. YAY!
Hugs and Love
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
I disagree. A lot of people who tune in to the Derby are not there just for the race. They’re there for the traditions associated with the Derby, including the parties, celebrities, fashions, hats, and mint juleps. Heck, a lot of the people that attend the race are there for parties, celebrities, fashions, hats, and mint juleps–or beer, if they’re in the infield. I have no problem with Tara and Johnny interviewing celebrities and commenting on fashion. They work well together, plus they know just how seriously to take things–they understand that most of it is silliness. Johnny’s hat was ridiculous, but no more that the headgear seen on some audience members. Why not go over the top? It’s an over-the-top day.

Dear Shirlee, Max and Z Fans:
Was concerned for Upstart too. Hopfully, he’ll be back strong. Love and Hugs, JB

Maureen,
I too am a spiritual individual, however I would never assume my beliefs had anything to do with the outcome of The Derby or that “God” knew ahead of time. Kind of diminishes and deflates the joy of others we care about. I’m sure you did not mean it that way, right? Lol.
Deb E.
It’s been a big day! First of all, congratulations to all our British Zsters on the birth of their absolutely adorable baby Princess of Cambridge! She truly is a beauty!
Congratulations to Brody Baffert, the son of trainer Bob Baffert for FINALLY getting to see his Dad win the Kentucky Derby with American Pharoah and place third with Dortmund! WOW! I picked the winner for the first time since 2004 when I picked Smarty Jones to win and my other pick placed third! Too bad I don’t bet!
@Max’s Fun Fact: Secretariat’s Triple Crown records will never be broken. Ever. :-)
Max
Agree.

Dear Deb E:
Great pickin. Love and Hugs, JB
Deb E.
My BEST pick came when I was six years old and my parents thought it’d be cute to let me pick the horse I thought would win the Derby. I marched up to the TV pointed and said , “That one,” the second horse in the post-parade because he was the most beautiful horse I’d ever seen and if I could have had any horse in the whole world for my very own I’d pick him. Anyhoo, my horse was dead last going past the stands the first time and my parents were having a good laugh at my expense until the end of the race when out of nowhere my horse suddenly came bombing around the outside of the field and went blasting down the straightaway to win. Needless to say, my parents’ jaws were on the floor, and I was yelling for joy. If you all haven’t guessed, the horse I picked to win that day was Secretariat. It was love at first sight.

This site has always been accepting and inclusive to those of all feelings and opinions. However, sadly it has changed. Tara and Johnny on NBC fill a need. People watch the Derby for many reasons, such as racing, betting, socializing, good food, celebrities and Derby fashion. Those into racing only watch TVG or HRTV. Personally, I like both.
Sophia Gates
You’re right; thanks for saying it!

Dear Judy B from Rhodes,
Yes they all did well and it was a spirited race that could have gone either way. To God be the Glory that they all came home safe. How about Frosted?, so proud of him, he showed his toughness and Heart and his competitive spirit and a will to win. He will have his day in the sun too one day soon. It is well. A good nights rest is wished all. Much love to all.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Maureen:
Frosted is a very good closer. Watch for him in the Belmont.
Thank you for your sweet, kind posts to everyone. Love this place. Love and Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Judy, Yes I thought it was a wonderful Derby. I hope we can have a Triple Crown Winner. Hey I am so glad American Pharoah got his revenge over the horse that almost bit his tail off last year. After I heard that, I said go get em boy. Didn’t you say it was frosted that did it. Was it one of the others too.
maureen ph[llips
Dear Peggy,
Not my Frosted, that kid has no mean bone in him. Look at that face. I thought AP’s tail came packaged that way. Looks so cute. Congratulations to all the players for a spirited race and for coming out of the race safe and sound. AP’s father Pioneer of the Nile will be soo happy his son won the Derby for him. Am happy too because I was a fan of his father.
Have a restful night. It is well at Z Nation.
Next Year,, we will be cheering on Ziconic, who will win the Triple Crown. IJHN. Amen.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Peggy:
I stand corrected, I mixed up my Grays. I read where it was El Kabeir or Mr. Z, not Frosted. I apologize to him. Love and Hugs, JB
maureen ph[llips
Dear Ingrid Arnone,,
Congratulations on winning the superfecta, never quite understood the superfecta, maybe you can explain it to me at a convenient time. I feel responsible for your lose on Dortmond , I feel it could have been any of the 3 and I feel the Big Boy will have his day in the sun one day. My take on the race is that his jockey took on Firing line too early and should have just stayed on pace with him that way saving some energy to run both horses down. If you watch his past races, that’s the way he runs. Never engaging but staying back a little to catch his breath and then run down his opponents. Am still very Proud of him though. If you recall, I said not to over look Firing line, because watching his races, his always knocking on the door and almost pulled it off today.
Congratulations to American Pharoah, I told you that his short tail should be taken seriously as it reduces the wind friction allowing him to run with the wind instead of running against the wind.If my memory serves me well, wasn’t his father Pioneer of the Nile also trained by Bob B?, I used to root for his father then, just loved him. It’s good that he won the Derby today to make his father very Proud. Wasn’t it mine that bird that beat his dad. Am not too sure but too lazy to check.
Best of all, they all came home safe. How about that Frosted, am a sucker for grey horses so am so proud of his spirited run. They all did well and we are all proud aunties.
Have a restful night and be Happy.. It is well. Next year, we will be cheering on Second Prince Ziconic who will win the Triple Crown.
maureen ph[llips
Dear Faithful Zenyatta supporter,
Just saw your response to my post, I just want to apologize to you or anyone else my post must have offended.
It is not in the Spirit of Z Nation family to offend, we are all happy people loving one another and brought together by the loving Spirit of her royal cuteness, her highness, the one and only Queen Zenyatta, who has always strived to make people around her happy.
As you rightly stated in another of your post, this site has always been inclusive and accepting of other peoples feelings and opinions, and will remain so.
Again, I am sorry if my post offended you, and hope you are magnanimous enough to forgive me. A good nights rest is wished you. It is always well at Z Nation. Much love.
shirleeinindy
Maureen,
Was not offended by your post. We are inclusive here and everyone can express their thoughts and feelings. We don’t always agree and that is fine. We can have friendly disagreements and discussions.
Max
You’re good. Don’t let the hall monitors get to you.

Respectful children learn from respectful adults. Calling rudeness only exuberant youth is setting the stage for worse things.
Respectful business once said the customer was always right. He was not always right; he could be exceedingly ignorant. But the practice of respect set the tone for business, just as respect can set the tone now. Men were gentlemen and women were ladies; a trait sorely needed now to head off the breakdown of self-respect and to restore kindness.
Love grows from roots of respect.

On this day in 1965 a bay colt was born at Rossenarra. He raced from 1967 to1978 an amazing 11yrs!Not for him the beautiful green pastures but a stable behind an used car lot in a street and he trained on the sands at Southport. He survived many punishing races,5 different trainers, nearly 2 dozen jockeys. He triumphed against all the odds and in spite of people. He survived the year of the cough and one of the most serious diseases of the foot.Maybe he knew he was destined to be a king,a king at Aintree. His name was RED RUM.Today we celebrate his 50th birthday. He rests in the place he called home, by the winning post at Aintree.RIP Rummy you are always loved and greatly missed.Love and hugs SheenaXX

Happy belated birthday to Blame. Yesterday was his birthday. With her gentle forgiving spirit, I know Zenny wishes him Happy Birthday and good health. Perhaps when she went on her date with War Front, she said hi to Blame. Maybe War Front gloated a bit!
