July 25 Cherokee Devotional
Victor Hugo said that certain thoughts are like prayers, and at times, regardless of the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees.
This happens frequently when we need courage. And courage, like muscle, works best when a demand is make on it. Unless we demand, we may never know what we can do. That demand may be so effective that we never go back to a time without courage. And out of gratitude, our soul will still be on its knees.
I took to the warpath as a warrior not as a chief. I had not been wronged but some of my people had been…and I fought with my tribe.

Remembering this day in 1975 when Epsom Derby winner Grundy beat Bustino in the King and Queen Elizabeth at Ascot.Sadly there will be no repeat performance as Golden Horn has been withdrawn due to the soft ground.Ironically at York, where he hopes to race in the Juddmonte, they’ve had to water the course today!British summers don’t you just love ’em!Sheena

Dear Kathy.Inspiring devotional today.Disappointed about GH but who knows he may run in the Arc now.Yes,all the furbabies I have visited are fine and Mango is on her way home.I loved Mr Fibbs weather forecast!Monty had an epic battle with a heron yesterday. He managed to ground him but no one knows what happened to the Heron. It was nature in the raw with Monty at his most fierce!I didn’t know a Heron can take out a chick up to 4 weeks old.Glesni is on the nest and the “bobs” are all on the lower perch.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Wonder if he has crossed paths with that….Beastie Boy?
Saratoga, yipppeeeee!

Think that Beastie is still at Fair Hill, although he could show at Saratoga any day. He’s been breezing weekly at FH.
If John Shirreffs already has horses racing at Saratoga, the two Z boys are probably there too. Very nice place to be for the summer.
Dan’s at home at Keeneland for the time being. May go to Woodbine.

Congratulations to John Shirreffs & team, who won the 8th race on opening day at Saratoga yesterday with Pulling G’s. Junior Alvarado was the jockey & they won by 1-1/2 lengths. Way to go, John! Good luck for many more wins at this meet.

Max,
Beastie Boy and JV together. That is a bit scary. Hope Danny hasn’t sent any emails to Beastie about tossing Johnny! Good luck to this boy with a big body and a big personality.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Carol, Max, Sheena and Z Fans:
Good news Beastie is with JV in Saratoga. Wish JV could ride COZ next time. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
shirlee. Don’t understand the reason for the change, Javier was his jockey. We’ll see what happens. Dan might be talking to the pony. They are both chestnuts. The chestnuts stick together, and The Beast always listens to Tony’s pony.
shirleeinindy
Max, I think JV has moved to Saratoga for the duration of the meet or at least for the upcoming big weekends. On FB they posted a picture of Palace Malice working and the rider looked to be JV. Todd trains PM so that could be the reason he is working him or it could be that JV and Cot go back a long way.

Hope everyone has a wonderful evening! It’s beautiful here with all of the rain we’ve had. Tonight, one of our roadrunner teenagers was up on the front patio pecking (drilling is more like it) on one of the windows (this is a daily thing now). But I had to run him off (was sorry I had to, but there is a dove that injured her wing and she’s roosting on a large rock on the front patio). I’m pretty sure the roadrunner would have chased her and perhaps hurt her. The dove is just under the acacia tree where we have 3 hummer feeders hanging from the branches. I think watching the hummers has perhaps taken her mind off her injury. Praying her wing will heal soon. All of the other wildlife – bunnies, birds, squirrels…. and the horses and doggie next door seem to be doing quite well. It’s so good to be back home after our trip! Zenny, missed you and news of your ‘boys’ and also everyone in here on your website! with love, Elizabeth

Elizabeth in NM
Dear Judy and Sandy,
Thank you for your kind comments. It ‘is’ so beautiful here. I’m afraid we’re spoiled by this place God’s given us to live and care for. I told my husband, even if we were ‘house bound’, there are so many windows, it’s like we’re outdoors even when we’re indoors. From the outside the windows are almost ‘mirrors’, since they’re tinted. Of course that gives the RR’s that many more windows through which they can stare at themselves and drill upon. They are quite cute, but quite mischievous! (and a bit scary if your a wee bird or bunny). They have a bird call that is ‘prehistoric’-sounding. Hope today brings many of God’s blessings to you both. with love, Elizabeth
Donna Z
Welcome, back, Elizabeth! I missed you, too. As I am a birder (birdwatcher), I love reading about the birds in your yard & also “Sheena’s” Ospreys. I hope to visit your area someday to see some of the birds there that we do not have in my area or other areas in the US & Canada that I have visited.
You might try calling one of the vets in your area to see if they can refer you to a rehabber who can help the injured dove. Rehabbers do not charge to help injured wildlife, but donations are much appreciated as all of their expenses come out of pocket.
Max
The August edition of Vogue is out and American Pharoah is in it. He’s hosed down and wearing his KD roses. The pose is priceless. The photo types call that kind of a shot editorial when human models are in it. Read that AP has given up his public appearances because he was put off his routine and eating schedule. He’d lost some weight. The champ is now back to working.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Want to see that photo. Hope AP gains his weight back. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. It’s not a major loss, only 20 lbs. Baffert decided however that it is best to get AP back to his routine before he loses more. He’s a very personable horse so that he enjoyed all of the attention. Big D on the other hand would not let anyone near him. He also would not tolerate people looking at him for more than a few minutes. Shot them a superior look to show who was in charge. Then he wanted to go back to his stall or his paddock.
shirleeinindy
Max,
I have been trying to find out if Pennmarydel has Big D’s disposition. From the pictures they post he seems to be more of a people horse than his daddy.

Over the years we forget how many times we follow the same paths. So accustomed to the twists and turns most of us could walk with our eyes closed-except for the gnarled plum that grows too close to the path.
Somewhere in our deepest memory are all the little paths, the little rabbit runs we have walked. Plans were made, fears were put aside, tears were shed, and decisions made along these paths. When we were children, around the bend was a long way from home. Even now we sense we have strayed too far. But we are still within earshot of those paths that lead us back to everything that waits with open arms.
Before our red brothers pass to the happy hunting ground, let us wash off our war paint in the river. Let us break our arrows.

Dear Kathy. A great devotional and a blessed Sabbath to you.A dull damp day in Wales!
looking forward to a fabulous week’s racing at Goodwood although I don’t think we’ll be able to describe it as ‘glorious’.Mango arrived home safely and got a beautiful bouquet!Fubu enjoyed his trip to Petco and got another toy.He has lost some weight though but is eating now again.Loved Ray attacking his daddy with kisses.Did you see the pile of fur left after his grooming? How did your babies get on in the groomers?
Such a sad story about Powder she only has a few days left and her mama said she’ll never get another dog.I hope she will change her mind in time there are so many who desperately need homes. It was wonderful to see Denman and Big Buck’s yesterday Buck’s is in Jersey parading.Have you ever been on “racehorses where are they now”FB?lots of news there.Hovis’ book will be out late September.Karen is looking for quotes to use.Lots of good suggestions there mainly to do with bread!Have a wonderful day.Love and hugs to you.Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXOBlue is growing fast!
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Enjoy the races! It’s always nice when there’s something really great coming up. Poor Mango must be exhausted after working so hard in Hollywood plus all that traveling. I hope she and her mom can get some rest! That was really nice of Bow-Tye to send the beautiful flowers. Sorry to hear Fubu lost weight. Maybe he’ll put it back on now that he’s eating again. I don’t know if I’d put him through all that, but of course that’s Kimberly’s call. I really love to see the way Ray interacts with his Mom and Dad. They really love each other! Missed the pile of fur. I’ll have to look for that. That’s the downside of Goldens. They shed all the time, I guess. My babies did fine at the groomers. They all look beautiful! That was heartbreaking to read about Powder. I understand right now her mom thinking she’ll never get another dog, but who knows, after time has passed she might change her mind. Did you see the post about that poor dog Charles? The product his owners put on him for fleas killed him. He had a terrible reaction to it, got all red and swollen. Poor dog, I hated reading that. Glad you got to see Denman and Big Buck’s. I’ve never been on Racehorses where are they now. Will definitely look that up! Hovis’ book is something to look forward to! I hope Karen finds some good quotes to use. Have a blessed Sabbath. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
