Ziconic

Catching Up with Ziconic

Dear Fans,

Winter has been both busy and a lot of fun at the Farm.  Despite that it is February and the middle of Winter, the California Central Coast has felt more like Spring.  This has benefited our ability to train outside instead of just the covered arena every day.  So Ziconic gets to spend more time with Sarah enjoying warm up and cool down on the track that weaves through Templeton Farms and in the jumping court – his happy place.

We had some BIG FUN at the Farm earlier this month with our good friend, Chelsea Schmitz, Stories Told by Film.  Chelsea started her career as an equine photographer, and now focuses on weddings and events – BUT, she has not lost her eye or touch for horses.  We love what Chelsea does and think she has captured the essence of Ziconic during this photo shoot.  And one of several things we can confirm that Ziconic shares with his Mom, Zenyatta; They ALWAYS know where the camera is!

We were so honored to have Jen Roytz, Executive Director, Retired Racehorse Project, visit us last month!  The love and effort this organization generates to support Thoroughbreds after their racing careers is truly AMAZING!  The next Thoroughbred Makeover will be October 7 – 10, 2020, Kentucky Horse Park, with 616 entries accepted – WOW!!  This is where brother, Cozmic One, made his debut competing for the 1st time and came in 5th!

As mentioned in our last post, one of our visions and dreams for Ziconic is to have a role as an Off The Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) Ambassador for the West Coast and beyond.  And as he continues his OTTB transition, we truly believe he is indeed becoming a great inspiration as a Sporthorse.  Last December 2019, we sponsored a jump to support CARMA and The Thoroughbred Holiday Classic Horse Show at the LA Equestrian Center. We think this turned out GREAT!  So, we are very pleased to have our jump represented at the next Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show Spring 2020, March 21 – 22, 2020 at Galway Downs, Temecula, CA.

Please Note:  Unfortunately, Ziconic will not be attending this show at Galway Downs, but we do have plans in the future, so please stay tuned.

If you have been following Ziconic on Facebook, you know he has become quite the Jolly Ball player.  This has become an everyday occurrence that can go on for 15 minutes at a time.  Z-Z, as everyone in the barn calls him, has learned how to “fling” his Jolly Ball, which then ends up in his neighbor’s walkout until someone retrieves it for him.  He not only has mastered his twirl; he enjoys having an audience – no surprise!

Ziconic’s grandsire A.P. Indy passed away on Saturday at Lane’s End. Heart-felt condolences and R.I.P. to Lane’s End, Family, Connections.

Sending Joy & Hugs!

Just watched the Mill Ridge Farm video of foals and mares. Very nice and it looks beautiful and like spring in Kentucky. Here in Indy it will not stop raining. Thanks to the farms for these videos.

Hope everyone is still feeling healthy and are doing well. Cabin fever is really beginning to set in!

    Happy Friday everyone!
Hovey continues to work his own agenda (which seems to be not the same as his Mum’s), but in the end, things worked out OK. So glad we have this opportunity to communicate as things are so quiet and strange in the rest of the world (well, in some cases, more quiet would be nice!). Living alone, I don’t see a lot of people anyway on an everyday basis, but I sure looked forward to some dinners out with friends. I am happy for those of you who have fur babies to keep you loved and occupied. Nothing to do but hold on, I guess. More and more states shutting down more and more business types – sure wish I had gotten my hair cut before all this started!!! Stay safe and healthy!

      Dear Sandy and Z Fans:

Sandy, thank you for our weekly Hovis update. He out did himself today. Laughs in almost every line.

Funny, I was just thinking to myself how thankful I am to have Lola, always; but especially now when we are so isolated. Our building manager has asked that only caregivers or family members running errands be allowed to visit.

Very surreal right now. Looking at photo of New York’s Time Square empty is like a scene from a SciFi movie. We’ll get through this; better times ahead.

      Sandy,
Thanks for Hovis today. I think all of us need the fun and laughter he provides.

I’m like Judy. I don’t know what I would do without Meow and Mitzi. They are a pain but so comforting to have. I have no family here in Indy except for them. They are spoiled rotten and very demanding. At times I feel like this is their house and they just put up with me because I supply the food, treats and toys.

My friends and I have decided that we are all going to find our what color our hair really is. I cancelled my cut and color appointment so guess I am going to be gray and shaggy very soon.

Tizso, the dam of Painter and full sister to Tiznow passed away yesterday after foaling her Frosted colt.
She was 25 years old and was sold at the Keeneland January sale. The woman who bought her did so to make sure she was retired after this foal.
However, fate intervened and she had a uterine artery rupture and despite the efforts of the crew she could not be saved.

    RIP beautiful, run free now

Don’t know if you all know about Tizamagician but he is a beautiful almost black horse trained by Mr. Mandella and in Saudi Arabia for the races. One of the Omaha Beach ladies is a part owner and posts on facebook about him. The delay in the Derby might work in his favor. He is truly a very handsome guy.

    Dear Judy and Z Fans,

I have been thinking of Sheena today, and in her memory, I extend a very Happy Belated Birthday to Dame Vera Lynn who celebrated her 103rd birthday on Friday, March 20th. Sheena would remind us that Dame Vera was her nation’s sweetheart and a national treasure — her voice and songs brought hope and inspiration to the UK and the Allies during World War II. Check out her songs on youtube (“White Cliffs of Dover”, “We’ll Meet Again”, “When I Grow Too Old to Dream” and many others).

    Hugs and Love

    Marshall,
Thanks for the video of Zenyatta. She truly is and was a miracle horse. Just think, all these years later we are still posting on her blog. Bless her and the coming baby.

      Dear Shirlee,

Bless them indeed. Glad you enjoyed that video of Zenyatta. That 2009 Breeders Cup run to victory always gets me, and with “One Moment in Time” sung by Whitney Houston soaring as background, it really blows me away. Happy tears, too.

      Hugs and Love
