We don’t know if you’ve had a chance to see 2022 RRC LEXINGTON RIDERS but the Team is entered in the 2022 Real Rider Cup on July 9th in Lexington, KY. Hoping you can all join us in helping route them on!!!

    Dear Z Fans:

    Couldn’t find 6th race replay of Confidence Game’s win. I did find a compilation video of all CD replays from 8/13. His replays starts at the 7:26 marker. He led from gate to wire. Beautiful Dark Bay like his Mama and Bernie.

      Dear Judy,
      I found the article Pati wrote for TDN. I tried to share it with email, but it wasn’t available. I googled thoroughbreddailynews.com August 17, 2022 and clicked on the first link (Summer Breezes . . .) and then clicked on PDF for archives. Selected August 17 on the newsletter calendar. Then scrolled on down until page 12 for the article. It is a very nice one entitled:

      I was hoping for a photo of CG, but there wasn’t one. There is probably a simpler way to access the article other than this rather circuitous route.

        The photo of CG is at the top — I got so focused on the article that the only photo registering with me was the close-up shot of another Keith Desormeaux trainee, My Boy Jack. I must have been sleepy!

        Joel R. hasn’t ridden for the past couple of days. The report yesterday was that he had tested negative for COVID — seems to be just a regular bout of “summer” flu. Hope he feels better soon.

    Get Well wishes to Charge It who is recovering from an abcess in his foot and will not make the Travers next weekend. Kudos to Todd Pletcher for giving him the time he needs to heal thoroughly.

    Congratulations to all winners today — especially to Moira, the third offspring of Ghostzapper to win the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine. She set a track record, too. Her jockey, Rafael Hernandez, was SO excited that he LEAPED (or leapt) over a hedge! He had ridden a son of Ghostzapper, Shaman’s Ghost, to victory in this race previously.

      Thanks for posting these videos! What a wonderful way to start the week — with the gorgeous strong-willed Whitmore and company. Some things are simply meant to be. Ron, Laura and Whitmore — I love it when the pieces fit together! The photo that sold Ron Moquett is absolutely stunning.
      I enjoyed finding out how Whitmore came to be in the Moquett barn. That story on the StreamHorseTV blog was so touching. Good folks and great staff, too.

          That made me think of Dynaformer, too! I got a chuckle out of hearing the approach to getting him to do something — you have to make it seem like HIS idea! Whitmore is his own horse — difficult, but SO worth it. Love it!

          Marshall, will be interesting to follow Whit and see if Laura is successful with her reverse psychology.

          Ann, Laura cracks me up too, “will he kill me”? Ron said they described Whit as a maniac and crazy as a two year old. Guess he hasn’t grown out of it just yet. 🤪
          Maniac or not, he was a talented race horse for them with earnings over $4.5 million. Seems obvious they love him and will take good care of him whether he excels in a new venue or not.

        • I love those bad boys too! I have to recommend a wonderful novel by Jane Smiley called HORSE HEAVEN. It follows the careers of several very different racehorses and their trainers and owners. One of the horses, named Epic Steam, is a combination of Whitmore and Firenze Fire — he seems doomed until he catches the eye of a wise old horsewoman who knows just what he needs. In fact, happy endings for all the horses in the book… It’s a terrific read for anyone
          who loves horses and racing!

      Thanks for this, Judy. Have to say that Irad makes my blood boil. Could it be a sibling rivalry thing? He and/or his connections seem to have some sort of influence over the stewards. Kudos to Richie Migliore for calling them out on it — very gutsy. And Horowitz hits the nail on the head when he mentions Ascot’s unequivocal enforcement. In fact, I believe Irad was cited for overuse of his whip (?) during the Dubai Cup (?) The only way to put a stop to his recklessness would be for the owners and trainers to stop using him… Ain’t gonna happen!

    Irad has been fined this past year for his riding. Nothing big but he never contests it, so that leads one to believe that he was guilty. This dangerous riding is not only harmful to the horse but rider too.

      Agree, Judy — miss Tom Durkin very much, too! He’s usually at Toga several times a week — he has shares in a few horses. And he’s a tour guide at the the National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame — as you can imagine, he’s a perfect guide — so funny but also informative, with an encyclopedic knowledge of obscure stories about the world of racing. Well worth a visit!

          Jonathon (sp?) Kinchen did a “cart talk” today with Tom Durkin, and it was GREAT! I think he said there was enough material to do a Part II, also. I think it was the best of the very enjoyable Cart Talks. JK does a really good job with these interviews. I look forward to each one.

    Thank you for posting so many nice articles and video. The ones with Whitmore were pure joy. Love the ones with spirit and a little sass. I do fear that Irad is going to be involved in a bad accident. My fav Ortiz is Jose. What a winning personality and smile.
    Read that Richie’s jock is going to be cutting it close to be at Saratoga in time to ride. Hope his connections have noticed that Johnny V does not have a mount in the race.

    Dear Z and Z-friends,
    Hallelujah!! John Velazquez has won Race 8 a few minutes ago at Saratoga — 1,000 wins at Saratoga!!! AMAZING! He won his first there in 1990.
    He was on Precursory in today’s Maiden Special Weight (xKantharos–PreviousxEmpire Maker). Check it out on the nyra website. Everyone was SO excited! He got a standing ovation, too. Precursory is trained by Bill Mott and owned by Juddmonte.
    CONGRATULATIONS to Uncle Johnny and all connections! I think he got hugged by all of his fellow jockeys. It was cool that they let JV’s wife lead the winning duo off the track to the winner’s circle. Sweet!

      Marshall, Judy and all the Zsters,
      So happy for Johnny V. even though he has put the hurt on many of my favorites over the years. He seems to be a great rider and person who does alot of work off the track to make racing safer for the jockeys and the horses. He never seems to make excuses when he doesn’t win or brags when he does. Who are we going to love when he and Mike retire?
