Happy Monday Everyone!
The summer season is upon us now and the weather is getting quite warm and very cozy! The advertisements on both radio and television keep commenting about THE LATEST FASHION ACCESSORIES one needs for SUMMER!
I have never been much of a shopper. MY TEAM always did this for ME. Now Lane’s End is also helping to provide me with my daily essentials.
As you know, I am outside quite a bit and love the time I spend strolling in my paddock. At this time of the year, while I’m outdoors, so are the ‘darling little flies and bugs that come with the summer season’. As a result, I have been outfitted with MY NEW SUMMER ‘MUST HAVE’ ACCESSORY…A FLY MASK!
This MASK (which I am modeling for you in the above photo) is really very comfortable. It fits nicely around my head. The material around my eyes is rather elevated…so the mesh portion of the mask itself is not touching my skin at all. The purpose of this item is 2-fold. Firstly, and most importantly, it helps to keep the ’adorable bugs’ from wanting to be on part of my face or by my eyes while I’m outside grazing and relaxing. Secondly, the fly mask serves as a nice screening aid from the sun for my face and eyes. In this respect, it is much like a pair of sunglasses for a human.
My pals and I are all adorning our MASKS these days whenever we go outside. At first, we looked at each other rather quizzically…to see what “this thing was’ our friends were wearing. As you know, horses don’t use mirrors when trying on something new…so when we saw each other for the first time with this ‘mask’ on…it was rather different. Once we realized everything was fine…and who was who, it was all A-OK! As a matter of fact, we all decided we looked TOO CUTE in them!
Truthfully, these FLY MASKS are a great invention. I have seen them before, but never worn one until now. I know MY JOHN has used them periodically at the barn for a horse who may be a bit light sensitive. At Barn 55, the horse would wear the mask during the day while walking around the barn or in the stall. The primary purpose of this was to protect the horse’s eyes from any glaring light. Then when outside training each day and during the races, he/she would not need to use the mask. Everything would be fine! I must say, this is just another way to be sure a horse is always as comfortable as possible. It also allows another opportunity for a trainer or farm to meet the individual needs and sensitivities of an equine athlete.
My pals and I all agree…these masks are WINNERS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Hi Zenny, how perfectly charming with your styling flymask, your brandnew halter and your tag back on.Gorgeous as usual!

Hi sweet girl. Gee, Zenny, you look a lot like Zorro in your fly mask! I’m glad that there are summer eye-protectors for you & your pals. Because of the ragged state of the ozone layer, my eye doctor says that everyone — including children — should wear sun protectors to make certain that our eyes are safe from ultra-violet rays (that could cause eye cancer).

Thank you! I have seen horses in pastures wearing fly masks but I never knew what they were before. Once again, you’ve educated me. Thank you Dottie (and Zenyatta for being such an accomplished model)!

I love you mask, Zenny!
I have a question you or your team can answer for me. Do Thoroughbreds ever have twin foals? The foals are so large when born, I cant see how it is possible to carry two, but does it ever happen?

Zenny the masks are marvelous wish more people would put them on their horses I hate seeing a poor horse suffering with flies all over their face and in their eyes
Wonderful you are so well cared for, thanks to everyone who takes care of this sweet girl, we love you all

I love seeing be a regular horse now and have some fun being lazy in the sun. You earned it and enjoy motherhood. Side note, you have always been such an inspiration to me, you were an amazing competitor. I have taken your heart and applied it to my work. I am in a high pressure sales position and we are driven to win. Our fiscal year was closing and I needed that win. It would take me on our company trip to the Bahama’s for a week. I had a picture of you on my desk (along with my other horse) and I would remember as I came down to the wire and I would give it just a little more. Happy to report, I did it. Just by a nose as you did many times. Your heart as a competitor and a winner will alway be with me. Thank you Zenny, you are an amazing mare.

What a “Glam Gal” you are with those new “shades” Zenny!
Have two horse farms I pass on the way to grocery shop and run errands and the horses have all sprouted masks too. If you wonder: horse farm? Michigan? Yep! I live fifteen miles as the crow flies from the Blue Water Bridge to Canada and we have small horse farms galore. Bet that lovely flowing tail of yours is also getting a workout too! Be happy, healthy, and eat your “greens”!

Only you could appear so trex chic, even in a fly mask! As for Zoro – I haven’t checked to see if it’s available, but wouldn’t we all know who he was if that was you your baby’s name??
