Good Morning dear Friends,
Today is the beginning of ROYAL ASCOT! This is a week long historic race meet that takes place in England each year at this time! It is filled with tradition and pageantry. The races are extremely contentious and the runners are of the finest quality. If a horse competes and wins at ROYAL ASCOT, it is a huge honor and considered to be quite an achievement!
Today is especially exciting for ME as MY MIKIE is competing there! He is riding a 2 year old named GENTLEMANS CODE in the ‘Windsor Castle’. It is a Listed Stakes Race going 5 furlongs on the turf. I truly want to wish him ALL THE BEST! Let’s go, MIKE!
Additionally, on today’s Royal Ascot Racing Program, Goldikova is running in the QUEEN ANNE STAKES—G 1. It is one mile on the turf. Later this afternoon their time, Frankel (who is currently undefeated) will be running in the ST. JAMES PALACE STAKES—G 1 for 3 year old colts. This race is also one mile on the turf.
There are many other exciting races taking place today…and all week at Royal Ascot! Dottie mentioned to ME that TVG and HRTV will both be carrying the events live each day. My best wishes to ALL of the entrants and their connections! How exciting!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
What a wonderful message today! We love ‘your Mikie’ and of course Gentlemans Code. Unfortunately, we can’t win them all though, and he shares the Win Honors with such class; a true gentleman. I loved his comment that someday he may be riding ‘YOUR BABY’…now that was “TOO CUTE!!” How about “UNIMAGINABLE”?!

Thanks Dawn for the nice mention yesterday.
…………………………………..,Thank you too Judy for the great video.

Dottie: You scooped me! You wrote what I was going to write. I watched the full 3 hours on HRTV and it was SO exciting!!! The coverage more or less ended with Mikey’s race. Zenny, you would have been SO PROUD of him. It was a field of about 23 horses — huge. All 2 year-olds. And Mikey came in fourth on Gentleman’s Code. But to even get that colt around that many horses is a HUGE accomplishment!!! The winner was Frederick Engels ridden by the great Johnny Murtagh but for Mikey’s second time racing in the UK, he was BRILLIANT.
Sad to see Goldikova lose but she lost none of her reputation in defeat. Plus she beat some excellent boys — among them, Cape Blanco. Frankel’s win was terrific but close & his young jockey said that he made the lead too early and got a little bored out there & hence, slowed up a tad. But Bobby’s namesake remains undefeated! Power, Aidan O’Brien’s 2 year-old certainly was (power-ed) & took the Coventry Stakes for 2 year-olds. It was his first race in England and he’s now 3 for 3. Then, Zenny & company, a mare took the 2.5 miles Ascot Stakes: her name is Veiled and she’s a daughter of Sadler’s Wells ex. Elusive Quality. The King’s Stand was won by a closer, a colt called Prohibit, but I was thrilled to see the absolutely stunning Star Witness whose last start was second to the amazing Black Caviar. Tomorrow I’m REALLY excited to see the Australian champ — now in England with Aidan O’Brien & Coolmore — called So You Say. Just an amazing horse this fellow is but so great to see him live on my computer!!!!
Hugs & kisses to you, Zenny, as always. You would have been at home at Royal Ascot, with Mikey and all these other champions.
Helen (Michigan)
Zenny, Mike paid tribute to you today for international fans watching Royal Ascot. What a thrill! Mikey picked up the mount on Holiday for Kitten and he was 14th. Johhny Velazquez was 13th on Bridgetown in the King’s Stand. Then to top the race day off, Mike rode Gentleman’s Code to a 4th place finish (among a mob of 25) in the Windsor Castle Stakes. I applaud him for finishing in the top four. Like you, the greatest equine ambassador in the world that we in the US have bragging rights to, your loving jockey epitomizes the best of who and what the sport stands for in human terms.
HAve a grand day basking in the sun and sharing the Kentucky Blue with your paddock pals.
Love the picture in today’s post!

For all those who missed it, here’s the coverage from The Racing Post in the UK. They have live videos for each race. To see Mike, look for the Windsor Castle Stakes and/or the winner’s name: Frederick Engels.

I am so glad Alydar’s daughter has been saved. The poor thing it makes me cry she deserves better and will now have it. This is a touching story.

I wish the Queen, as in QEII, could’ve seen Queen Zenyatta run. She knows horses and would’ve appreciated the greatness. Maybe she’ll see you sometime in Kentucky, Z. Congratulations to Mike- he did a great job with Gentlemans Code and how fun to see him at the Royal Ascot. Love Frankel’s silks, btw! Very Z like. Love and hugs to Z and Team Zenyatta.

@Judy – I’m CURED!
After 2 days to trying to get an answer, it seems my cart was sold L_O_N_G ago but someone forgot to notify me. HA
@Charlotte Farmer, I was reading the bloodhorse commemorative collector’s issue for John Henry and found an item concerning Kelso. Years ago an artist was at Carl Hanford’s barn sketching Kelso for a painting. “Hey, Carl,” he said, “your horse here, the point of his croup is farther forward than on other horses.”
“All I got to say,” Hanford replied, “is that the others are all made wrong.”
Love it.

@Cynthia H, Bravo! I loved your post. And I can picture the entire “event” in my mind…our Zenny would fit right in with the English and their love of horses and a grand time.
Abigail from Montreal
@ KARI B: YOU ARE animalsrock4love? OMG! You are one of my 5 FAVOURITES on YouTUBE. I did the Zenyatta dance one to Michael Jackson & you wrote me the greatest comment!!!

Zenny, we LOVE the photo that accompanies this diary post. Good times, for sure!
Margie
I love making donations in Zenyatta’s name, so I’m happy to participate in something like that. I think it’s a wonderful way to pay tribute to Zenny who gives us all so much each and every day.
Love you, Zenny Girl!
@Karen Gogue: I must have missed posts re D Day; what is it exactly, or will you refer me to the Diary # where it might be described? Thanks! (I was out of town last week and tried to catch up on the postings – saw a couple of references to this but obviously missed the original posting.)

Zenny – Thank you for telling me Mikie is riding in the Royal Ascot!! I just wish I could watch!!! He is my favorite jockey I cheer for him all the time! Love you beautiful girl! Hugs and Kisses from Roswell,NM!!
Celeste
How sweet to wish your Mikie good luck on his riding assignment across the pond! I was able to catch part of Frankel’s race this morning, but I missed seeing Goldikova’s run. Wonderful that Frankel remains undefeated, and I’m still looking forward to seeing Goldikova in the BC Sprint again. Thank you for sharing the adorable photo, too!

Dear Zenny,
Goldi came in second to CC, but Ascot was one
Of his favorite surfaces. Will he meet her in France?
No. Can he beat her on the dirt and turns of Churchill
Downs. Really hope not, but really who cares she won
The BC Mile three times and he will be at stud before
He tries the BC Mile. Will CC be considered for North
American HOY? Don’t think so. Goldi has more than proven
Her ability to defend her crowns. Just like you Zenny. Really
Hope she makes it to HOY. Agents truely an awesome mare,
But very different from you.
Hope you had a great day watching the Royal Ascot
Races. XXXOOO
Signofthetimes
Correction:
CC will be a stud before he tries another BC Mile
If he makes it this year.
Agents ? I meant Goldi.
Carole
Hi Zen…hope you are having a wonderful day grazing. I just received my sculpture of you in the mail, #42 and Nina sure did a great job on it. I just love it and you. My friends were talking about the bucket list and now and the top is the hope of meeting you someday in person. HOOVES CROSSED, have a great day with your pasture buddies. XOXOXO

Dear Zenny
Forgot to mention Goldi has been racing since 2008
Clipping your heels although not your direct competitor
Due to her style. She has beat colt and geldings many
Times. Sure hope the North Americans let her shine
For us this year .
Signofthetimes
Any one know Goldi ‘s size? Haven’t been able to find it. She is very muscular but also delicate.

Dear Judy B, this morning I miss the Royal Ascot first race, and I also miss the interview with Mike, thank you for the video was great and when they ask him about Zenyatta my tears start running, thanks again for the link. Love you Ingrid.
Kim S
Good evening Miss Z, hope you got to see “Your Mikie” race. He did a great job in such a big field.
@Susan in TN–Wow, 6-7 weeks is a long time to wait for results but I will be thinking positive thoughts. Also sending postive thoughts and prayers to Lou. :)
@Abigail from Montreal–thanks for the links to the UK races.
@Shay–what a heartbreaking story on the link you sent about Promethia. I’m just going to send my paycheck to Dottie and have her disperse it among the needy horses. :) Gotta check the balance on my VISA, for the month, to see what I can do for wonderful Promethia, to be treated like that and still trust humans. And yes, her sire, Alydar, his fate was totally horrific and unacceptable at the hands of J.T. Lundy.
@Charlotte F–please keep us updated on Noor and anything that we can do to help.
Sending good thoughts and prayers to Frankie the foal and her contiuned recovery.
Zenny, the good vibes you send are so theraputic and all your Z fans just can’t seem to do enough for those less fortunate because of you. Here’s to you, sweetest of angels. Have a wonderful night and Wednesday morning.
Hope everyone’s middle of the week is a pleasant one. Lotsa love to all.
