Hello,
This is TOO CUTE! Yesterday at Hollywood Park, a few of the 2 year olds MY JOHN has in training breezed down the lane and galloped out nicely. To be honest, this one sure looks familiar to ME! I’d know those hind-quarters anywhere. (Although I must say, these days I am gaining a bit of weight! This comes with eating for 2 you know!) Blush, Blush!
This filly in the photo is my dear relative, Eblouissante! Here she is walking back to Barn 55 after her workout. Amy breezed her. “E” ( by Bernardini) went a very nice, relaxed 3/8ths with 2 other fillies….Minds Eyes (by Macho Uno) and Silent Poetry (by After Market). They each did a very ‘professional’ job for this stage of their training. The clockers got them in 38:80. John was quite pleased with the manner in which these fillies accomplished their lessons yesterday! YIPPEE!
There are so many details to be attended to at this stage of a horse’s career and development! Each of these 2 year olds has already spent time at a training center prior to coming to Barn 55…learning “the basics”. These lessons start with learning how to accept tack to responding to cues from the rider and how to successfully navigate the turns, the straight-away, and change leads.
Once at Barn 55, MY JOHN starts with each horse having a basic idea of what to do….to expanding upon these skills and introducing others that are required to be a race horse. Lots of gate work is necessary. They must also learn to change gears…when to slow down, be patient, handle other horses around them while running…and of course, how to pick up speed to finish strong.
As MY JOHN says, there are lots of BABY STEPS (no pun intended) to be achieved along the way to getting a horse ready for one’s first race…and hopefully the start of a long and successful career.
From all reports, ALL of the babies did a great job yesterday. I’m sending each of them a HIGH HOOF! Cheers to all…..and keep up the good work!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dear Lisa G.:
No, I don’t think it’s denial. The reality is just too painful sometimes. You’re right, try to remember all the good memories. Hugs, J.B.

Dear DJ.:
You may be singing that for Bernie and Z next year. Hugs, J.B.

Wow, E reminded me so much of Z towards the end of her run. I also loved her “dancing moves” at the end, she seemed to be the only horse getting her groove on! I’ve never bet on horse racing but I just might with E, she’s got the genes and a fantastic trainer.

I didn’t know about Animal Kingdom’s injury and I believe that the vet treating him is Dr. Dean Richardson from New Bolton Center (think the same one who treated Barbaro?). Hope it’s not too serious and that he can mend successfully. Any news on Nehro’s ankle chip surgery yet? Wishes to both for a speedy recovery.

Eblouissant = Dancer. May her life’s song be a joyful one. May all of their lives be so. Ebloiuissante is beginning to move with an exquisite grace. I was so full of emotion, watching her on John Shirreffs’ most recent video. She will not be forced to live in her illustrous half-sister’s shadow—-he will see to that—-but there is no denying her genetic make-up, which is already being made qute apparent.

*Eblouissante (I will get this right, before she retires)

@ those who said there would be a stewards investigation
Of the Belmont Stakes
You were all correct Rajid was suspended. I think
JV was right about the reason it was done.
And unfortunately they were all together at the post.
Sounds like AK injury was mild and actually
May have been something brewing. Barry Irwin
Said he should be ready for fall races. Speedy recovery
To AK.

@Cynthia H: Well said.

Ms Zenyatta, watched your sister’s video again. We all have something to be very excited about. I forgot to tell you, I framed Blood Horse mag that I got this week, you Father-In-Law is on the cover. He looks great. Hoping you are comfy, cozy with the little one..I will talk with you tomorrow, cannot wait to see what you post…Lisa g.

@anybody that is following Ascot, tomorrow in the “Coronation Stakes”, race 3, for 3 yr old fillys at a mile on the turf. The American intrest that I think is in with a chance is “More Than Real”, winner of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies’ Turf, owned by Bobby Flay, trained by Todd and riden by “Goldikova’s” jockey. Also in the race you must pay attention to Princess Haya’s horse “Joviality” and the Coolmore horse “Together”. This appears to be a very good close rated group. The races there are so good, I wish I could go.

For those of you who ‘care’, Zenyatta raced with both lasix and bute. These are completely legal medications and John used them.

You must be so proud of “YOUR JOHN”. You know that he’s proud of you…and all the rest of us are proud of you too!

E is so cute! I can’t wait to see her race. And how exciting for John to have a filly by After Market.

@Judy (Maass) Gadwood & Sally (B) – I could not find anything on how many hands Eblouissante is. Hopefully Dottie Shirreffs will answer that question. I am curious too. Could not find anything on Google.
@Maggie N – Your welcome.
@Roxann Freitas – Nice to see you posting. This should make Zenyatta’s John smile.
@zenyen – Thanks for helping me pronounce Eblouissante. I can’t wait until she gets on the track with such a French name. It will be interesting to hear the call.

Dearest Z and all your Special Friends who share you with us;
I love to visit this site every day, and am always rewarded with smiles, an easing of the day’s tension, and the opportunity to enter ‘another world’, as it were, where I can participate vicariously in a lifelong passion of my heart – the love of horses. And most especially the world of Thoroughbreds and racing. Most of us have had to stand longingly behind the fence or outside the barn door, adoring from afar. Yearning to be a part of it all. But aside from our own beloved horse/pets if we happen to be so lucky, consigned to being outsiders. Since YOU, dear Zenny, we have been welcomed into the inner sanctum! For that I love you! Here’s a big smooch on your soft/bristly nose – and a big thanks to Dottie and YOUR JOHN.

Dear Signofthetimes:
If something was amiss with AK before the Belmont (and that’s what the vet seemed to imply in the BH article, I think) then it is really unbelievable that he was able to right himself after he was bumped and also clipped heels. What an athlete he is. Hope he makes a full recovery. Feel like the punishment doled out to Jockey Maragh wasn’t enough. There is no excuse for riding like that and jeopardizing other riders and their horses. Hugs, J.B.

Zendottie, thank you for another informative post — love hearing about the training and care of horses. Since you brought up the subject of weight, if it is not too impertinent to ask, what is your current weight? If we recall, you gained 150 pounds in your first month or so at Lane’s End which would have meant about 1350 pounds around the end of the year.
Cynthia H.
@ Judy Berube: Can picture Bobby Flay in the Winners’ Enclosure in full regalia, shouting “Let them eat cake!” Love it! Good luck to him.

@Michael Blowen – sorry to be a stickler, but penultimate actually means second to last, as in, Zenyatta’s penultimate race was her 19th victory. And yes, I’m this annoying in real life. LOL

@Judy (Maass) Gadwood – I followed your instructions on Lighting a Candle for “Z.” There were no unlit candles. How does one ADD a candle or is there a limit to how many candles per site? What if I wanted to light one for Noor or Kelso, how do you do that?

THIS MORNING I WATCHED JOHN’S YOUTUBE WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL SISTER, “E”, AMONG OTHERS. IT WAS FABULOUS.
LATER OUR FAMILY DROVE TO HOLLYWOOD PARK AND HAD THE MEMORABLE THRILL OF SEEING YOUR SHRINE AND OLD HOME, STALL 85. WOW!!!
THEN JOHN LED US TO EBBY’S STALL. SHE LOOKS SO LIKE YOU. SHE IS BIG,BEAUTIFUL AND VERY CHARMING. “E” KEEP CUDDLING RIGHT UP TO ME. I JUST CANNOT WAIT TO SEE HER ON THE TRACK :)
ZENYATTA, YOU AND EBBY ARE BOTH AWESOME!
HAVE A FUN DAY AND IT IS QUITE OKAY FOR “EAT FOR TWO”. THE EXTRA WEIGHT LOOKS GOOD ON YOU :)

Very, very disturbing to hear of Animal Kingdom’s injury. At best, it was poor riding by Rajiv Maragh. More likely, it was a vengeful act as a result of being taken off Mucho Macho Man and who was his target.
Julie DuVall
E looks so cute! Let’s hope those baby steps end up with her following in YOUR hoof prints!
I know she won’t race until John knows she’s ready, but I hope her first start is at Santa Anita on a weekend so I can go see her :)
Yvonne and Maurice Kirby
Hi Zenyatta. What a beautiful picture of Eblouissante – yes, you can really see the resemblance! Good luck to all the babies, Minds Eyes and Silent Poetry. They will get the best training under John, one of the best trainers ever. Looking forward to tomorrow’s racing at Royal Ascot and a great weekend of racing. Last year, we were getting ready to see you run in the Vanity. This year should be another awesome race with two of my favorites, Blind Luck and St. Trinians. I was heartbroken when St. Trinians was disqualified from her last win – it was definitely a wrong call from the stewards – she was the best horse and only drifted in a short distance. May all of the horses running here and abroad be safe. Love you, Angel in Disguise. Stay comfortable, eat well for two and enjoy your BBFs.
Barbara Wood
Anybody have a report on Nehro’s surgery? I haven’t seen it on Bloodhorse.
Bridget
Yes, E will have a little 3/4 brother or sister to Z’s foal. No pun taken, Z! :D
