Good Morning to All~
Happy Tuesday! Everything is moving right along perfectly at the farm. I am able to go outside with my pal, Tasty Temptation, and relax for hours at a time. As you can see in the photo, I am just like so many of you. My coat gets ‘lovely high-lights’ from the sun and I do need to have my ‘sunglasses’ (aka fly mask) on when outdoors.
I must say, this mask is a fabulous accessory to have. Not only does it keep the flies off of my face and away from my eyes…but it also screens out some of the sun and direct light…which is quite helpful!
We have had really warm weather recently. I’ve heard that it is also quite warm back home in Arcadia (by Santa Anita). Dottie looked up the temperature for today and it is to be 93 degrees in Lexington. It is even a bit warmer than that in Arcadia. As I have mentioned before, Charles and the guys here monitor how hot it is for ME. If too warm, I am taken back to the barn where the fans are keeping it nice and cool. I must say, I am one very lucky girl!
It is also the first of the month and as MY TEAM requested, they weighed me. I am gaining just the right amount of weight for this stage of my pregnancy. YIPPEE! I am eating all of the right foods and drinking LOTS of water to stay properly hydrated….so this is all good! I’m really trying to do all the RIGHT THINGS here to be a GREAT MOM!
In racing, for many of the major race tracks, today is a ‘dark day’…meaning the tracks are closed. So for quite a few people who work with the horses, this is a more relaxed day and they have some time off. Whether going to the lake, to play golf, or to have fun in the ocean, I hope everyone remembers to be careful in the sun, drink lots of water, and wear your ‘sunglasses’….JUST LIKE ME!
Have a very pleasant day!
With love,
Hugs to All~

@ Joan – I did read your post a couple of weeks ago about the proposed ban on shipping horses. I couldn’t do much since I live in Canada but my daughter lives in Maine so I asked her to contact her representatives. As of yesterday, with the article in the Toronto Star daily paper, I am hoping that Canadians will demand that the government close the slaughter houses and ban all restaurants from serving what I cannot mention. I have already contacted my Member of Parliament to ask that he take action to stop this horrific business

@ Brenda S.
Onething I would like to see is some sort of petition to Mountainerre Race Track protesting DBird being allowed to race on that track. I understand he lost his license in another state but is still running horses there under his wifes name Cynthia Bayley. These tracks have no kill regulations but these trainers find a way around it.Ihope folks will ban attending this track. $$$$speak very loudly.
Love ya Z

OK, I’m starting to get caught up.
@Patti Spencer—Enjoyed reading your post about meeting Mike Smith and Jeanne,,April and Jacki Mayberry—thanks for sharing.
@Elizabeth–Thanks for your informative post about the Bobby Frankel connections to the racing at Saratoga over the weekend.
@Kari Bussell—WOW! Thanks for the Zoe Bragg/ Zenyatta video. Sure brings tears to my eyes. Praying Zoe is doing well after all this time.
@Bridget—LOVE that link to the horse showering in the sprinkler! Makes you feel cooler just watching it, doesn’t it! Too cute! Thanks.

Hi Zenyatta. You look so gorgeous in your beautiful sun lit highlights. It is so good to see that you are wearing your fly mask/sun glasses – the sun is so strong. Here in Texas we are in triple digits – just amazin! Please keep cool. Thank everyone for information on Lisa’s Booby Trap. She is so much like Zenyatta; she has so much heart – I was so heartbroken when she faded to last and was so concerned that she was hurt. Thankfully it was a sore that will heel and she will be back winning races. TVG’s Michelle did a couple of great shows on her and her owner/trainer – just brought me to tears. She is so tall and so energetic – always moving, on her toes. Love you Zenyatta, stay comfy, eat well for two and have loads of fun grazing on that blue grass and enjoying chats with your BBFs. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

Dear Joan:
I wonder if we all sent Mountaineer e-mails protesting this trainer’s actions and urging them to ban him from racing. What do you think? Hugs, J.B.

@ Joan that track is only 25 miles from home. That made me sick and so upset when I heard about what this man did. I could not stop thinking about it. I wish I could see the CA racetracks. I saw Keenland when I was in Kentucky. It is beautiful. I thought about working at Mountaineer but a friend told me it would upset me the way the horses are treated. I would have been hurt by one of those bad people because I would not have been able to keep my mouth shut. I am very passionate and care about all creatures especially the horses. I guess I expect everyone to be like Mr. and Mrs. Moss or Unlce Mike(Mo’s owner).

Dear Maggie N.:
That’s for certain. Hugs, J.B.

Good evening Zenyatta,
When mist sets aflight off the paddock
And trees are wearing their shadows like a smock
That’s when you’ll see her!!
A still figure standing in the earth’s breath
Against the first light
Its white blaze and socks assuring
The visitor’s guess always with joyous delight.
“Yes, indeed,it is She”!
With head held high,
Her curious gaze never losing its sight
The spirited approach
Speaking of blue blood and hot blood
Of divinity, heaven and earth as one in her might.
Her graceful strength and quiet beauty
Planned centuries ago,
Honoring those out of the steppes,
The old countries, in the New World,
Street Cry and Vertigineux.
Zenyatta!!
Her name borne of a song,
Foretelling the promise of the dancer
Coming to the paddock’s fence
Before the shadows grow long.
by me :) :) :)
I bid you good night and hope for you dreams of mints & carrots

Dear Margaret:
Glad you got your power back. Don’t know where you are, but most locals today are hot and one definitely needs air conditioning. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Sunny Boyd:
Bravo. Beautiful. Hugs, J.B.

Zenny you are getting great care from your family in Lexington! Love the fly mask. Wouldn’t mind one myself when I am sitting on the back patio. I would not look half as beautiful as you though. Gorgeous EVEN in the fly mask. Keep cool. It’s pretty nasty down here in the south with the heat.

Dear Kari Bussell:

Dear Joan:
I am in New England and I e-mailed all three of my Reps., l Congressman and 2 Senators, and asked them to vote to protect our wonderful horses a couple of weeks ago. I heard back from all three and they assured me they will vote to protect the horses from slaughter. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Terry Crow:
This man’s behavior makes one angry enough to go “Bird” hunting and I’m not a fan of hunting. Hugs, J.B.

Hi Zenny: I didn’t get a chance to write last night. Sorry about that. However, I did read yesterday’s post and was happy you heard from Hootie. He is adorable and really looks like he is enjoying himself at his new home. On today’s post, I must say you look very fashionable wearing sunglasses!!! When I looked at your picture, I couldn’t believe it was you. You look great as a blond with your Coppertone tan. It has been a very hot summer here on the east coast. I was surprised to hear the Santa Anita area reached 93. Better say goodnight. Love you Zenny!!
@Kari Bussell—Thank you for the wonderful video of Z and the her Dumplings. The music the phots everything was terrific.
@Trina Nagele— Hey Trina, thanks for posting the link. What fun! Great memories!

@ Judy B and Shari V
Yes they have a contact site on their main website. I am in the middle of composing one now. I have been talking to someone who worked the story in Canada. If you page down on the article there is his Death Cert. Very sad. It shows the breeder, foaling date and last owner.
I would like 5 minutes with this guy and me with a baseball bat.The things he said about the horse were terrible. He was
not a champion but he was a living breathing thing that depended on his owner for everything and what he got was a blow to the head. Sorry, but this is ugly, can you imagine the fear he went thru. Horrible.
So YES, send those emails. So many that they can’t ignore the public outcry.
Love ya Z.

Good evening Queen Z. Is that really your fly mask or are you hiding from the paparrazi! You look simply dazzling in yopu paddock. So glad your being cared for in this heat and that all precautions are taken to insure your safely and your unborn foal. Stay cool.
Hugs and kisses

Dear JAG:
Thanks for the article on Female Racehorses. Z started it all. Hugs, J.B.

You look so beautiful out in the paddock with your mask on, Zenny. I’m glad that this hot weather isn’t getting you down too much. It sounds like they’re going all out to keep you comfortable. When I went to Old Friends a while back a few of the horses had on fly masks that were (fake) fur trimmed. Very stylish. You’d make any old thing look good though pretty girl. I love you, Zenny! :-)
@Kari Bussell – Thanks so much for the link to the Zoe Bragg video. I loved that! Aren’t Zenny’s connections awesome? That’s so wonderful that she got to meet Mike Smith and be there at the track on Zenyatta day.
@Terry Crow – Another great joke :-)
Linda from Vermont
I love this picture and would love to be rolling around in that cool looking grass! You look great Z! So how much weight have you gained?
judy berube
Dear Joan:
Please forgive me, but I did not read the article. I cannot read what is actually done to these beautiful horses. Can’t bear it. However, I know what the end result is and will be if we don’t stop people like Mr. Bird. New York Racing Association has made real strides in handing out jail time to owners/trainers found guilty of neglect and cruelty. Hope more States follow suit. Will send an e-mail to Mountaineer right now. Hugs, J.B.

@Trina N–thank you so much for giving us names to go with the photos.
@Sunny Boyd–beautiful composition! That should go into the you-know-what.
@Kari Bussell (please forgive one more mention)–I did see that in the Zoe video, someone commented that she was alive and well and jumping her horrse 11 months ago.
@Joan–I’ve already written my Senators but will “contact” the race track and beg them to be diligent. This is a disgrace.
Trina Nagele
@Terry Crow—Great joke and great song titles—thanks!
@EK—Thanks for your comments about making horses comfortable and safe in the summer. It would be nice if Z not only has fire sprinklers in the barn for safety, but also an outdoor sprinkler like the horses in Bridget’s video link for comfort. I’m sure I would need air-conditioning too in that heat. Do horses suffer even more from heat than people?
kristen
Zenyatta,
Great message today. You look great and happy.

@Joan- I am in TN., but I want you to know just how much I really do admire your passion….I have sent endless letters, emails and made numerous phone calls about this as well as for Wild Mustangs, as have many others here….I just imagine if it were one of my very beloved puppy dogs (12yr.old puppies) or the Queen herself….gets me off my rump and into action….I just know in my heart that many (more than are saying) Zenny fans are and will continue to be very active for this cause….some here try to keep the focus on joy and peaceful thoughts (I usually do)…..but I KNOW many silent ones here that do care about “the cause.” … May all slaughter be ended! Joan, thank you for all that you have done for the horses….I for one am grateful to you!

To Sunny B: That is so beautiful! Thank you! It needs a frame :)

Thanks for the photo! And it’s good to hear everything’s going o.k.
