My dear, dear friends,
As many of you may know, MY JOHN and Dottie go to Santa Anita each evening to check on the horses at that barn and walk SOPHIE. It is a relaxing ‘family time’ for them. Last night, they were commenting to each other how very special ALL OF YOU are. John was sharing several emails he’d received during the day with Dottie. The tone in all of them was so warm and tender!
The outpouring of love, sympathy, and kindness you have expressed for Cloud Man and My Team is deeply appreciated! THANK YOU!
One exceptional and charming quality I absolutely ADORE about this web-site is the way everyone rallies around to support each other.
You are constantly doing this when you respond to each other in the DIARY…and you have faithfully done this for ME during my entire career. Additionally, you have expressed the same support and love for MY TEAM.
Life, as we all know, can often present many different challenges. The manner in which all of you share thoughts, kindness, support, and encouragement seems to help make some of these situations and handling them simply feel so much ‘better’.
Thinking of you…and sending each of you a very special HIGH HOOF…for being such a DEAR FRIEND…not just to ME and MY TEAM…but to EACH OTHER!
Enjoy your day!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Zenny, you and your team have been a strong focal point in our lives for years now, and we feel like your extended family – to you and to each other. We love to hear about Your John’s new horses so we can follow them and root for them, and we feel a loss when something bad happens to them. Thank you and Dottie for keeping your diary up to date so we can keep in touch with you.

Dearest Zenyatta,
What a beautiful picture of the Santa Anita track. I’m sure you must have enjoyed the view while racing there.
Sharing my sadness over Cloud Man with you and everyone on your diary site makes the pain just a bit easier to bear. Unfortunately, life isn’t always perfect and we all need encouragement and kind words from time to time. I know that Team Z has always been there for you whenever you needed them and now you are here for all of us, binding us together with our mutual love for ‘the Queen’. You are so special, dear Z. More special than you could ever know.
Happy Tuesday and love to you and Tasty!

Zenyatta, I love you.

This is the hardest part of loving animals. Only if you have been through it do you know how much it hurts. I don’t know where this quote is from but it is a favorite of mine ” Until you have loved and animal, a part of your soul is unawakend”…think this is true.

Zenny, YOU are such a wonderful MOM! YOU expressed what I think most of us in YOUR Fan Family were thinking of saying to YOU and YOUR Family and each other. I was just thinking today that I hope that everyone will try to find a way to Santa Anita next year to meet YOUR (our) ‘Family’ members… and YOU put up a photo today of beautiful Santa Anita!
So many beautiful and kind words have been ‘spoken’ the past many hours. What wonderful people you all are. I felt we were all up late last night with our thoughts connecting across the miles. This morning when we went next door to give our usual early morning snack to our neighbor’s horses, I kept thinking, ZENNY, what a ‘horse family’ we (YOUR Fans) have really all become thanks to YOU and YOUR Jerry and Ann, John and Dottie, Mike, Sarah and YOUR whole Team. The joy YOU have given and continue to give doesn’t diminish in sadness but sustains us through these sad times. Love thinking of John and Dottie and Sophie for their early morning outing.
Thank you so much, Dottie,
for your faithful and wonderful daily posts. They mean so much to us all – as I feel you know.
God is truly Amazing

I loved Cloud Man since the day I first saw him, which was the day earlier this year that he reared up before entering the gate. Corey Nakatani was riding him and was able to keep hold of him as he jumped off. Cloud Man was so exciting to watch and I had kept an eye on him ever since then. I will miss him, but it does not compare to what Dottie and John and Jerry and Ann must be going thru right now. It is Zenny who has brought us all together because of her uniqueness and for this we are all thankful. She is special and you are all special and any horse is lucky to be part of your family. As a member of your virtual family I can only provide kind words at this most devastating time, but please know that they are heartfelt and sincere. Take care and comfort each other. XOXO

The photo is an exceptionally peaceful and serene one indeed. I can only imagine that it helps out one tremendously to be in a place of such beauty especially when going through such trying and difficult times. So extremely sorry for the loss of Cloud Man, just am not able to process in my heart what has really happened here. Such a terribly difficult time and wishing everyone back at Barn 55, as well as the Shireffs and the Mosses, peace and comfort and a quiet period to reflect on what Cloud Man has given to us all during his short life here with us all. He was such a gift and let us all be thankful for having experienced the wonderful time that he shared.
Hope you are doing well Zenyatta and wish to thankyou so much for everything that you have given me. You have enriched and made my life extra special. Thanks for being so spoecial. You continue to sparkle and shine brighter than any star up above. But now Cloud Man though, is shining his light donw here on us all and it is absolutely beautiful! Love & Blessings Always!

Zenny, You, with Dottie’s help, have created a loving caring family that comes together in support of the family each and every day. We may not know what each family member looks like but we are there for each other thru thick and thin, happy and sad. High hoof to all dumplings.

One of the many things I am so thankful for is that you, Miss Z, retired so healthy and safe. You are such a big girl with a few Ruffian qualities in your build and I worried. It’s such a tribute to your people, especially your trainer, that you are safe and sound. Love you so much!
Ellen from Mariposa (CA)
I’ve read all the messages here and realize others have said all I wanted to, and very well…so all I am adding today is virtual (((BIG HUGS))) to all at Team Z and the wonderful online community here.
Thank You so much for all you do!
Much Love,
Ellen

Dottie I am such a clod. Yesterday I wrote how it must suck for Mike. It totally bypassed me that the humans involved with Cloud Man might just be having a tough time too. I apologize for that grave oversight on my part.
I hope all was handled quickly and expertly. No one wants bad things to happen but leaving an animal in distress is really unprofessional. Perhaps someone else can help me with the details–the horse who broke down training and there wasn’t a vet at the track. The trainer stayed with the horse FOR OVER AN HOUR before a vet was summoned.
We know you love the horses. Those of us who got to visit Z at Barn 55 saw the professionalism displayed not only by John but all the brooms and yourself. Not only towards the horses but the humans too. Bringing Z out for her 2nd retirement party–no one had too but you chose to help the public bridge that loss–her leaving racing.
For me, I love how your able to lend your voice to Z. I don’t believe it’s anthropomorphic because your teaching many here who don’t know about racing new things. And to those that say something like this–who cares? Most of us come here to feel close to Z, have made friends, learn more about horses. I’ve seen networking for horses and prayers for those in need. I’d like to think if we understood horse–Z would be very happy to know what she started.
Kindness and gentleness has to begin somewhere. If we can’t learn this in school then this is a wonderful warm environment to start the process.
I think Cloud Man and this very sad experience is what this blog is about.
As Z would say HIGH HOOF to Dottie for all she does for us and Z. And another HIGH HOOF to the rest of Team Z for the support they give her.
