Hi Zenyatta I wanted to tell you that my friend Jennifer Wirth sent me a framed picture of you winning the Apple Blossom race with the program signed by all the Jockeys and the winning ticket. This is all in the frame. My Principal gave me permission to hang this in our school office. It is so wonderful for all to see when they enter the Westgate Middle School office. The children and anyone that comes to the office will see it. The children pass by the office everyday to get from one part of the school to another part of the school. I just thought you would enjoy knowing that you are still inspiring young and old. I get such a good feeling seeing you everyday and knowing that you are part of the Westgate family. You sons will also each have a class following them. We all love you so much. Sending you many hugs from Mrs. Voltz and her 5th Graders XXXOOO

Dear Judy,
I had a bad feeling from the start about running AP in the Travers. My God…he ran and won all 3 Triple Crown races plus the Haskell. Then 3 weeks later they run him in the Travers??? He needs a rest! He is a great horse no matter what.

Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for the link to Steve Haskin’s article! SH is always right on target with his excellent writing and observations.
I totally agree with you in hoping that AP and all horses in today’s Travers, as well as in the other races, too, are safe and sound.
I also would like to wish Bentley well. I hope he is still improving and will recover his good health soon. Prayers for healing continue.
Lots of Hugs and Love
Marshall, thank you for your sweet words for Bentley. Hopefully, with stall rest, he will recover completely. Thank you for keeping him in your prayers. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy,
He is tired and Zyat is acting like a child, if you sre going to run your horse run him,
he is not made of glass. Penny Chenery made a legacy for Secretatiat and Zyat is acting
like a child, he is not a perfect horse. He came in second after Frosted ran him into the
ground. Get him ready for the BCC and give him a legacy, let him run against the older boys. To be only a TC winner is nothing, there needs to be more to it. He sees $$$$ in the shed. He should run at 4. So happy we are going to see Beholder next year, that is what racing is all about, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. BB was right and I am not fond of BB, he showed what AP was made of and had so many people enjoy him at Saratoga win or lose- the horse is fine.
Love and hugs
PS
Coolmore knows TC alone is not going to make him in the shed as well,
he needs to beat older horses. And poor Mr Zyat- he is not the horse I knew-
let him rest and he will be. That man is a farce onky after $$$$.
Tizgood
There is no TC winner that relied on that alone they all went on to do other things if they did not they were not looked on very well. AP happened to mature over all of the other babies to win all three races; Other candidates like Affirmed had the Alydar rivalery and was not put in a glass bubble neither was Secretariat or Seattle Slew. Whether we waited 37 years is a mute point; he needs a legacy. Penney Chenery gave her three year old a legacy, a 3 year old is a baby they need to go on to show they are a man and a champion. It is obvious people on this site have never riden a horse, to ride a two and three year old takes a lot of skill because they know nothing. Horses do not mature to be ridden until they are 6 years old. Thoroughbreds mature more quickly than other breeds because they start training at age one. Other breeds are not even trained to be ridden until they are 3 years old, they spend 3 years in the pasture learning social skills.
There is much more this horse can do and BB is going to make sure he has a legacy and Coolmore wants him to have one to enhance his stud fee,
he is a talent !!!
Tizgood,
I have to seriously disagree with you. The Triple Crown is it! If it were nothing, there would have been a lot less than 37 years between winners. Facing and defeating older horses would be adding to his legacy. Think Mr. Zayat was just reacting to the loss. Bet we will see A. Pharoah in the BC Classic is he stays healthy.

Agree with you, shirlee. Being a Triple Crown winner is extraordinary, and AP is still an extraordinary horse. Zayat was naturally disappointed. He’s the same guy who went to exceptional lengths to save Paynter. He’ll always be a hero for that.

I both agree and disagree with Tizgood. I have not got much use for the owner as he has hurt many people financially and his comment about retiring AP seems to be aimed at the breeding market. On the other hand, winning the triple crown is the ultimate achievement. It is true, however, that AP has not defeated older horses and it appears that the BC night be his only chance.
I posted an article from Blood Horse below. Personally, I think what AP has accomplished is absolutely amazing. Even in losing yesterday, he just kept trying. I’m just so grateful that he appears to have no ill effects from trying so hard yesterday.
He’s tired and I hope they give him a rest. Whether he races as a four year old or not, he’ll always be an outstanding Triple Crown Winner; so many brave ones tried in the 37 years since Affirmed, but he did it. Love him. Love and Hugs, JB

Dan is racing at Woodbine in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile on September 13. It’s a win and you’re in to the Breeders Cup. Lea is also nominated. Lots of our other favorites like Za Approval and Kaigan are nominated. 31 altogether.
Well darn. Battle of the Chestnuts. I knew Lea was going to go back to the turf based on his last 2 works which were over the grass. Kinda wish he wouldn’t since he has been so successful on the dirt. And his first turf race and they pick one against Danny! Perhaps they will change their minds. Think they want him to go to the BC and hope he can win one of the Win And You Are In races.
Max
I think that the Shadwell may be a win and you’re in to the BC too.
Did you see the Travers race notes on Equibase? Says TR hit the gate at the start and came out last. Was remarkable he finished 5th. Love that boy; gutsy just like Daddy. Love and Hugs, JB
Thanks Judy,
You always have kind words for our favs whether they win or lose. I do know Red was not himself and it looked as if Kent had to check a time or two. No excuse as he should have done better but still love him and will wait for next time.
Alys you are a mind reader! I was just needing some Zenyatta! She gives me strength and tranquility. Thank you to all of Team Zenyatta and how fortunate for the world, she has her own social media! She’s so precious!!
Thanks, JB. Very nice. Safe travels for Team AP and many thanks to them for putting the spirit back in the grandstands! Raise the rafters. What a wonderful year of racing, thus far.
Dear Max.AP looks really good today in his pics.I really enjoyed the Steve Haskin article.I hope they will decide to run him in the BC after a rest.Moose’s FB is called Mad Moose fan club the admin is Joanna Quade.Unless you are on FB I doubt you could access it.I know there isn’t a lot of news now he’s retired but we get pics of him from time to time.He still has well over 5000 twitter followers!Missing my birds!Sheena.
I saw the photo of Moosie with CNSM on his Twitter. He’s looking very fit. It’s good to get updates on him. Long live the free Moose!
AP does look as handsome as ever. From some comments, you’d think that the horse finished last instead of short by a neck or half a length. You and I both know about the ongoing rivalry between Coolmore and Godolphin/Darley.
Grimthorpe is reported to have said that Flintshire might be back for the Breeder’s Cup Turf after the Arc. He was second last year to Main Sequence in the BC race. This might be his year to win it. He ran a super race in the Sword Dancer. Still laughing about the distance between him and the pony. He also did not want to be lead to the winner’s circle either. Cool.
As to your birds, what is the story on this bird called Blue? Is she a lone wolf type of bird without a family? Or is she holding out hope for your Monty as in bird unrequited love?
Dear Max.As for Blue(this is my version not the dyfi)!she fell hopelessly in love with Monty but although he does mate with her if she returns first Glesni is his partner now.Blue hangs around the Dyfi the whole summer thinking that could be my life. She did become very aggressive towards the youngsters Celyn and Bobby after Glesni and Merin left.Only she and Monty are left on the Dyfi now I should imagine he will leave in a couple of days.BB said AP needs to chill out a while now Mr Zayat spoke in the heat of the moment.
The Euro horses are just not used to being ponied to the start.Yes.I heard Flintshire may come out to the BC after the Arc.All horses need to be celebrated win or lose they always run their hearts out and try their best except maybe the wise old Moose but then he was pretty good when he decided to take part in a race was even 2nd to Sprinter Sacre once.Sheena.
Thanks for the explanation about Blue. The Moose could compete whenever he wanted to do it. It had to be on his terms. Agree about celebrating all horses win or lose. Still haven’t warmed up to Blame however. Maybe in another 5 years?
Oh come on Max, Zenyatta has forgiven Blame. I know how you feel. I still haven’t forgiven Affirmed for beating my beloved Alydar. And that dratted Birdstone who beat Smarty.
Dear Sheena,
Blue is Monty’s hussy until the wife returns, I hope she can find a partner, she loves Monty so, but his true love is Glesni. Thank goodness that has been decided. AP ran a grand Travers so glad he had a challenge and came in second, what a great race for a great race. Secretariat lost to Onyun and that was planned by the trainer, he saw him have a bad work. All great champions lose that is what makes them great. Now to win
the BCC. So miss the chicks and Monty will be gone soon. So love the solo photos of him.
Love and hugs
Dear Judy. All the youngsters have left the Dyfi now.The end of a wonderful season.I have just seen a pic of Bentley looking so fit and well again on Jock’s farm FB.Lovely photos of your Charlie too.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
Dear Max.Doubt I can ever warm up to him sadly!I still cannot watch Long Run’s Cheltenham Gold cup win in 2011 when he beat Kauto and Denman.I love all horses but ADORE others.Sheena
I think AP is fabulous. But at the end of the day, he is a flesh and blood horse! He’s tired and well he should be. He has done fantastic things. The “powers that be” should have stopped after the Haskell. That race in itself was asking tons of him after doing what he did. To take him to the Travers was asking way too much of him. I want to believe that down deep BB felt that as well. But I agree totally with BB when he said, “he owes us nothing – Hell, we owe him”! And truer words were never spoken.
Wow, such a great post. Totally agree.
I don’t know if I’m out there on this one. But I just can’t believe that Coolmore would want him to keep going. What if he gets beat by an older horse. What would they think about that. What would that do to his stud fee.
He’s our Triple Crown winner and I’m just over the moon with that. Even if never runs another race. He’s wonderful. You look at the races he’s run this year. Really look at them. He’s a legend. He will be remember as a great one. I thought the Haskell and the one that he ran in the rain were just for the ages to enjoy. Love him dearly . Want to see him happy at the Farm. Want to be able to tell Giant’s Causeway there’s another great one coming. I don’t know he may be jealous though. Think he’s been top horse at Ashford for a while.
I just heard on our local 11pm news that American Pharoah & Keen Ice will be taking the same plane out of Albany tomorrow. They didn’t say where Keen Ice is headed to though. Maybe Keenland since the Breeder’s Cup is there this year…
I think that Mr. Zayat mentioned retiring Pharoah because he was shocked that he didn’t win the Travers. I think that once the shock wears off that he will want to race in the BC Classic. He was such a good sport about wanting to race at Saratoga & doing it for the fans that he will allow Pharoah to keep racing as long as he is healthy.
Personally, I think it’s a shame that so many horses either become unsound at three or are retired at the end of their three year old year to make big bucks in the breeding shed. I think this is part of the reason why we have so many young horses break down; they are bred for speed & not soundness. We need more horses like Zenyatta & Wise Dan who are able to stand up to the stresses of racing without breaking down.
I don’t remember when or where I read this, but I saw somewhere in an article in one of our local papers that race horses used to be walked many miles to Saratoga the morning of their races to race that afternoon. They also raced more often than our horses of today do.
Alas, I did not make it to visit John’s barn at Saratoga this year & doubt I will because it’s supposed to very hot (temps high 80’s-low 90’s) & humid this week & next weekend. I so wanted to meet Ziconic & Mario. I bought a tote bag of early season apples for all of John’s horses & sweet potatoes for Coz & Ziconic, but did not make it there. Labor Day ends the Saratoga meet & I don’t when John will move his horses back to Belmont…
The Oklahoma track at Saratoga is open until mid October for training & some trainers like Nick Zito train there & trailer their horses to Belmont to race.
I pray that the last week of this year’s Saratoga meet is a safe one for all the horses & jockeys.
Prayers for Mary P & Vicki & all others who need them as well as Lady Eli & Bentley.
You’re so welcome. CC looks terrific. Just what the doctor ordered; hoping the same for AP.
Ann, BB is absolutely right; we do owe them. We owe them love, care and concern and the time they need to recharge. Their welfare should be first and foremost, before, during and after racing. Without them, there is no Industry. Love and Hugs, JB
On this day in 1997 our beloved Diana, Princess of Wales, tragically died in a car crash during a visit to Paris. She lives on forever through her sons William and Harry and now her grandchildren George and Charlotte. She will remain in our hearts and minds for always.A true icon never to be replaced.Sleep tight cariad.RIP.SheenaX
sheena,
Diana would be so proud of William and Harry. Think she would enjoy that imp of mischief that gets into Harry sometimes. Her boys turned out well.
A person totally dominated by his emotions is little different from a piece of paper lifted and tossed by the wind. Everything centers around caution-don’t do this, don’t say that-or an emotional explosion can take place.
None of us escape emotional extremes. We have cried our hearts out and laughed hilariously in all the wrong places. We have known melancholy and ragged nerves. But most of us know how to stabilize our feelings. The unstable times are when someone feels he has a right to blow. Without sadness or happiness we could be deadly indifferent, but to be blown about with every emotion is a waste of human spirit.
May the Lord bring you out of all your troubles. Trust your course with Him.

For Max.Willie Mullins has called time and the Fly’s spellbinding career has come to an end.Now aged 11yrs this son of Montjeu won 24 of his 32 races but, most tellingly,22 of those were in Grade1 company a world record. He had already amassed 8 by the time he won his 1st champion hurdle at the Cheltenham festival a title he regained in 2013.Never beaten at Leopardstown he won a record 5th Irish Champion hurdle there last season. There are just not enough words to describe this magnificent horse.Rest easy now Fly and enjoy your golden years.Thank you for the wonderful memories.A few tears shed here today.Sheena
I’ve been dreading this retirement because I really enjoy watching The Fly run. I deeply love and admire this horse for his undaunted character and his courage against all odds to fight on to win. But we have to accept that Mullins knows what is best for The Fly. I’m happy that he has retired sound and with his incredible spirit intact. Let me know if he stays with Mullins or the owners take him to Northern Ireland. Bite on, Hurricane Fly!
Dear Kathy.A thought provoking devotional.I often let my emotions get the better of me.Just digesting the news of the ‘Fly’s retirement over here. There are just not enough superlatives.A career spanning 10 seasons and 22 grade 1’s what could you say???.I wish him a long and happy retirement and am so glad he has retired safe and sound.
We have a holiday weekend over here and the sun is out Yikes!!!Monty is looking very thoughtful on the Dyfi, another season over Africa is calling. His wife and children gone but the mistress is still hanging around! The po-po were called to Mango’s over the weekend a pool party!Mango was trying to explain to mum what happened.Shortie isn’t too keen on his Halloween outfit.Poor Missy is very sick my dad had congestive heart failure and his heart was enlarged too.I think she is about 14 and only meds will keep her comfortable now.Great story about the little kitty following the backpackers.Poor Wookie is a little cranky on his meds. We’ll see what happens when he is weaned off them.Remember to turtle.Have a great Monday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Dear Sheena,
Monty looks good, enjoying the day. However, I don’t think he liked hearing the gunshots for a good part of the day. I did hear geese for awhile. Do you have any idea what the gunfire was about? Take good care, Mary Margaret.
The Fly certainly had an astounding career.I join you in wishing him a wonderful retirement. He certainly deserves it! Enjoy your holiday. That pool party must have gotten pretty wild! Poor Shortie. Maybe the costume will grow on him! I hope Missy can stay comfortable and just rest. Poor little thing. I loved the story about the cat and the backpackers. Seems she (was it a girl? I forget!) picked the right people to join up with. Sorry Wookie is cranky from his meds. Hope his frame of mind improves when he goes off the meds. I’ll be sure to turtle today. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Help! In all the excitement of the Travers, I am lost. When and where is Wise Dan running again?
Max
Dan is racing at Woodbine in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile on September 13. It’s a win and you’re in to the Breeders Cup. Lea is also nominated. Lots of our other favorites like Za Approval and Kaigan are nominated. 31 altogether.
shirleeinindy
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max. Shirlee and Z Fans:
Thanks Max. Go Danny!
Shirlee, will be a tough choice for you. Exacta! Love and Hugs, JB
Terry Crow
Sure hope that Dan runs in the BC. It would not be the same without him.
shirleeinindy
carol,
After Red ran so poorly, finished off the vodka and went to sleep!
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Did you see the Travers race notes on Equibase? Says TR hit the gate at the start and came out last. Was remarkable he finished 5th. Love that boy; gutsy just like Daddy. Love and Hugs, JB
Tizgood
Dear Judy,
Thanks for the update on TR, did not know this about the gate.
Poor guy, he did well, like father like son!!!
Love and hugs
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Tizgood:
Indeed! Love and Hugs, JB
Terry Crow
Texas Red will be heard from in the BC.
shirleeinindy
Thanks Judy,
You always have kind words for our favs whether they win or lose. I do know Red was not himself and it looked as if Kent had to check a time or two. No excuse as he should have done better but still love him and will wait for next time.
Teresa
Alys you are a mind reader! I was just needing some Zenyatta! She gives me strength and tranquility. Thank you to all of Team Zenyatta and how fortunate for the world, she has her own social media! She’s so precious!!

Max
Or is she holding out hope for your Monty as in bird unrequited love?
sheena.davies(wales)
Max
Thanks for the explanation about Blue. The Moose could compete whenever he wanted to do it. It had to be on his terms. Agree about celebrating all horses win or lose. Still haven’t warmed up to Blame however. Maybe in another 5 years?
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Think they should name one of Blame’s babies “Don’t Blame Me”. Love and Hugs, JB

Oh come on Max, Zenyatta has forgiven Blame. I know how you feel. I still haven’t forgiven Affirmed for beating my beloved Alydar. And that dratted Birdstone who beat Smarty.
Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
Blue is Monty’s hussy until the wife returns, I hope she can find a partner, she loves Monty so, but his true love is Glesni. Thank goodness that has been decided. AP ran a grand Travers so glad he had a challenge and came in second, what a great race for a great race. Secretariat lost to Onyun and that was planned by the trainer, he saw him have a bad work. All great champions lose that is what makes them great. Now to win
the BCC. So miss the chicks and Monty will be gone soon. So love the solo photos of him.
Love and hugs
sheena.davies(wales)
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
Oh yes, what a difference in Bentley. He’s doing really well. Some beautiful photos of Charlie. Love and Hugs, JB
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Doubt I can ever warm up to him sadly!I still cannot watch Long Run’s Cheltenham Gold cup win in 2011 when he beat Kauto and Denman.I love all horses but ADORE others.Sheena
Jane Cabrinha
I think AP is fabulous. But at the end of the day, he is a flesh and blood horse! He’s tired and well he should be. He has done fantastic things. The “powers that be” should have stopped after the Haskell. That race in itself was asking tons of him after doing what he did. To take him to the Travers was asking way too much of him. I want to believe that down deep BB felt that as well. But I agree totally with BB when he said, “he owes us nothing – Hell, we owe him”! And truer words were never spoken.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Jane and Peggy:
Amen. Love and Hugs, JB
Donna Z
Hi, Z fans-
I just heard on our local 11pm news that American Pharoah & Keen Ice will be taking the same plane out of Albany tomorrow.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Donna Z:
Hope AP gets some good rest and is OK.
Thanks for your sweet words for Bentley. He is doing so much better. Love and Hugs, JB

Now to get, AP in his pasture to show off like that.
Agree with, Bob, we owe them!
Sophia Gates
Oh wow – thank you!
CC is one of my all-time favorites. I’m so glad he’s feeling well. He looks spectacular!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Dear Judy,
Thanks for the beautiful picture of Chromie. Glad to see he’s doing well. I sure miss him and hope he will be back in action soon. <3
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Kathy, Ann, Sophia, Sandy:
You’re so welcome. CC looks terrific. Just what the doctor ordered; hoping the same for AP.
Ann, BB is absolutely right; we do owe them. We owe them love, care and concern and the time they need to recharge. Their welfare should be first and foremost, before, during and after racing. Without them, there is no Industry. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Thank you, Judy. Chrome is right where he should be. Looks as if he is doing very well in Kentucky. He is away from all the to do by his owners.

Diana would be so proud of William and Harry. Think she would enjoy that imp of mischief that gets into Harry sometimes. Her boys turned out well.

August 31 Cherokee Devotional

Happy, healthy retirement Fly. Love and Hugs, JB
Ann NC
Happy retirement, Fly!
Guessing Willie still has a few biters, so he must still watch his backside.
What a horse!
Max
I’ve been dreading this retirement because I really enjoy watching The Fly run. I deeply love and admire this horse for his undaunted character and his courage against all odds to fight on to win. But we have to accept that Mullins knows what is best for The Fly. I’m happy that he has retired sound and with his incredible spirit intact. Let me know if he stays with Mullins or the owners take him to Northern Ireland. Bite on, Hurricane Fly!
sheena.davies(wales)
Mary Margaret in Central Georgia
Dear Sheena,
Monty looks good, enjoying the day. However, I don’t think he liked hearing the gunshots for a good part of the day. I did hear geese for awhile. Do you have any idea what the gunfire was about? Take good care, Mary Margaret.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
The Fly certainly had an astounding career.I join you in wishing him a wonderful retirement. Kathy XOXO
