Breeders’ Cup Weekend Recap

Zenyatta, Ann and the Breeders’ Cup Sports and Racing Excellence Award.

Last weekend was the 10th anniversary of Zenyatta’s 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic victory, and we were at Lane’s End Farm to celebrate with The Queen herself.

Zenyatta was delighted to receive her Sports and Racing Elegance Award. Thank you Breeder’s Cup and all her fans for  supporting and honoring her in such a beautiful way! She thoroughly enjoyed every moment!

    Dear Z Fans:

Just read this article in Bloodhorse. Prayers for all the horses at Remington and for the poor Sweetie that had to be euthanized; RIP Beauty.

Hope Phantom hasn’t arrived there yet. Maybe they will stable him elsewhere until this quarantine ends. Love and Hugs, JB

      Dear Judy,

This is just awful. RIP to the lost sweet soul. Sending prayers for the safety of all in the quarantined barn and to all horses at Remington Park, too.

Yes, I hope Phantom won’t arrive there until things are cleared up with the EHV-1 virus completely.

Prayers for Hovis, too. May this surgery be successful and complete recovery be achieved with no recurrences.

Yes, me too; hope all the horses on the farm and at Remington are better soon.
It has been a very trying time for Angela; working hard every day tending to the horses needs; dispensing meds, keeping the area as sterile as possible, compressing boils when and if they form. It’s been tough. Hopefully, all will be recovered soon. Praying so. Love and Hugs, JB

Many thrills in this posting and the comments. Zenyatta and Ann look wonderful and so enthralled with one another. Zenny looks great so seems her pregnancy is going well. What a joy to real such hopeful news of Zellda! It would be such a thrill to see her really make an impact on racing. Praying this will happen especially for Zenny’s sake. She so deserves a winner.

Just saw on Bloodhorse.com that California Chrome is being sold to Japan! His present ownership is keeping an interest and will have a say on what goes on. He will return to California when he is retired from breeding. Greed?

Taylor Made is doing the right thing. There was very little interest from mare owners and his book for 2020 was not filling. His stud fee, though advertised as $35,000 for 2019 and $30,000 for 2020, was actually around $15,000 last year privately. There is oversight and a provision for a return to the States in the sales contract. Chrome will be well taken care of in Japan and this sale gives him more opportunity to succeed as a stallion. This is so much better than him becoming a regional stallion somewhere in California, New Mexico, New York, etc. where his stud fee would fall below $10,000. Taylor Made has been so generous to Chrome’s fans, I hope the fans don’t start bashing them.

      Dear Barbara,

I saw that article and read it from beginning to end. PETA’s attitude toward non-human animals is disturbing. To think they feel animals are better off dead than being with humans is really incomprehensible. Basically, they are against any domesticated animals.
They appear to be unconcerned about animal welfare and sometimes behave like terrorists. Sorry if this offends anyone, but offing well-cared for animals rather than returning them to their homes is in no way an act of kindness.

Donna Brothers article is definitely worth the reading — I knew PETA was extreme, but I had no idea how extreme.
