Happy Monday!
Zenyatta, 13Z and Cozmic One were visited by Jerry and Dottie this weekend. It was a particularly special visit because they were there to see Coz off as he departed Lane’s End for Mayberry Farm in Florida. At Mayberry he’ll follow in his mom’s footsteps and focus on his new routine—learning to be a racehorse. Alys captured video of his departure for the fans.
The team spent time with Zenyatta, who is looking great and in foal to War Front. They also said hi to 13Z, who’s having a blast this fall with his buddies.
We’d like to thank Lane’s End for all of the time, enery, and love that they have put into Coz. For that, we are very grateful.
Enjoy!

Coz looks fantastic! It is a little sad to see him leave Lane’s End but it is also exciting that he’s embarking on the next phase of his life. Perhaps some day he’ll return to Lanes End to stand stud after a successful career on the track. Now that would be great! I know he’ll be in good hands with the Mayberry’s. Thanks for the vid and pictures! You made my day!
Hugs to all,
Leslie

Coz is so beautiful. Coat glossens. Kind of sad to see him leave his home but he’s a big boy now and starting a new phase of his life. Thank you for this amazing journey. Doesnt seem possible that he’ll be 2 in 2014. Love the pics of Z and Z13.

Hi Zen family, Zenny, Coz & Zenji (my nickname for Z13):
I echo the sentiments & impressions above. Coz is a beauty even if he’s still catching up to those ears! And I certainly had VERY mixed feelings, watching him take his first BIG STEP into his future. But thank you, ALYS, LE & TEAM Z for letting us share this experience. You take such good care of us and I so appreciate it.
I guess in a way I kind of dreaded this day, mostly because it underscores how separate Zenny’s and Coz’s lives have become. And I found myself thinking about when my son first left home and all the emotions that washed over me. Of course, this is the obvious connection that we “mature” moms are inclined to make.
The other reason I kind of dreaded the inevitable is because the expectations for Coz will be so HUGE and that’s unfair, because there will never be an Z-offspring like her. I equate this to being a daughter/son of Albert Einstein: can you imagine the fallout if this offspring was only average in maths & physics???? I’m pretty certain that the majority of Zenny’s babies will do her proud, even though I know the statistics are against that happening; but I hope she has a brood like the great Personal Ensign.
Still, as they say, “Now it begins…”
And as exciting as it is to see Coz off to the Mayberry’s — and as much as I’m anticipating his first start — there’s all these other mixed emotions too.
Love & hugs to everyone…and peppermint kisses to my Big Girl.

I totally understand how you feel, Abigail… I thought about when my daughter went to kindergarten and then when I left her at college in NYC…. wow… but, he’s on to the next phase, and we “aunties” need to embrace that our “kids” grow up, but never away from our hearts… :’)
Max
Abigail. Agree. He has to move on, but it’s bittersweet for all of us who have followed his mother and him since his birth.

Wow Wow Wow
Coz is only 105 miles away from me. One hour and 38 minutes per map-quest. I wonder if they would let any of us regular non celebrity no name people just get a chance to see him. I don’t need to touch just look. promise :)
He looks great but I bet he will miss all the great people at LE those are the only peeps besides his human parents and a few special visitors he has seen.
If I had none that semi was coming I would have been up on 426 waiting for it to cross from 301 to 75. I could have pretended to be broke down and flagged the driver down. Truckers are some of the nicest people. I know that for sure as that was my husband, Dad and grandfathers profession. If I only still had Brian’s old CB radio I could try to contact the driver.
Anyway it is nice to know that tradition is in place with Coz and his big Mom.

I am sure if you call the facility, you can schedule or find out what days they recommend visitors to watch them train. Its normal for people to come in and watch.. Just call and see, you cant loose to do so! :)

SUE: I’m lovin’ COZ I CAN 2015!

Got all verklempt hearing him whinny as the van drove away. This chapter has ended, a new one begins.
Liz
I got choked up, too. I wanted to shout “Precious cargo, handle with care!” but I know he will be handled as carefully as they can. He is a tall gorgeous drink of water, isn’t he?
Candace
Why weren’t his legs bandaged for the trip? I thought all traveling Thoroughbreds had their legs protected. Just curious.
Cathy
I was thinking the same thing..
Janya
Hi Candace, no. The big commercial rigs like to have ’em clean and naked. Normally the bandages are for support while standing in the stall. I’m not sure why that’s protocol, but when I had my horse shipped commercially that’s what I was told, no blanket no wraps, nothing but a halter please. Unless there is a medical reason for the bandage, they want it off.
Maybe bc the bigger rigs rides smoother and are roomier than your typical 2-3 horse rigs. My horse got her own half stall when she shipped since the rig wasnt’ full, so she had plenty of room to lie down or turn around. But when full that rig could haul up to 10 or 12. And some one rode in the trailer with the horse in the back. He climbed in after her and settled himself on a pile of straw and blankets.

Please note in this video of Z getting off the trailer at Oaklawn Park…she is in full leg wraps. http://youtu.be/5RIIzwxgBDA

I know nothing about shipping horses but wonder if he was just in the van until he got to Blue Grass Field and the boarded a plane. Can you imagine the responsibility of driving this horse from Kentucky to Florida with all of his “aunties and uncles” watching. If it were me, I would probably only go 20 miles and hour.
Kayla
I am guessing he just didn’t need them. With the fancy trailers they have now with air ride suspension and all the fancy stuff. I haven’t seen many yearlings with all the protection so maybe when he gets older (which makes no sense because they are more prone to get injured in dumb situations) Also agree with Janya, may have been a shippers preference?

New beginnings! Thank you for sharing.
All the best Coz!

Thank you for the article on Orfevre. Oh my sounds like there’s going to be a filly in that race. Have to talk to Orfevre about not getting intimidated.

Coz is a baby no more…….sad to see him go. It will be so thrilling to see what he does. Hopefully, we’ll be able to follow his progress.

wow- brings a tear to my eye, reminds me of sending my daughter off to kindergarten, and then to college…. He’s gorgeous and BIG… Jerry is a tall man, and Coz’s withers are at Jerry’s shoulder! Glad that he went nicely into the truck- love their ramp… How cool was that??? Good Luck, Coz in your new chapter… 13Z and Zenny look lovely too…. sniff sniff
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Oh my, my eyes are welling up. Love ya Coz. Interstate 75 runs right through here. Sure wish I would have known when that van came through here. Sure would have been looking for ya.
Coz there is the most beautiful little filly about your same age down there. It’s Leroi’s little girl She is just beautiful. OK, I know none of that matchmaking now. You two could meet on the race track. She reminds me so much of Animal Kingdom but a little girl.

Peggy. Found this article about the Arc. Head thinks that his filly will win, and that the Big O will lose because he does not like to do battle. We’ll see. Sometimes making remarks like this before a race can bring down the wrath of the racing gods. I’m sticking with the Big O. Big O, park the gentleman routine, run for that wire and do not let those fillies go by you.

Dear Max
I’m going to be just as positive, but in the other direction from F Head. “Orfevre” He’s gonna do it this time. I really liked his calmness in that last race. And, I think his jockey knows him better now. He’s going to do it…………………GodSpeed
He’s a little older. Like Wise Dan I think he’s aging beautifully.
Sure hope he draws a good post position. Maybe it doesn’t matter, but I sure would like for him to get a little good fortune before the race. Wouldn’t hurt.
Go Orfevre…………………………………………..

Oh graduation day has finally arrived. Like many others I have been greatly anticipating this day, now I find myself with tears in my eyes. Safe trip beautiful boy, you will always be my first and favorite. I just pray we can get some updates and pictures of your new life and training and won’t be sitting in the dark until you go to your trainer. YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL.
Good to see Mr. Moss and Dottie again bet they enjoyed their visit and seeing Zenny and Red. I love and agree with Deanna’s comment about him being like prince Harry, I bet he’s a real devil too.
Zenny, you did good, girl. Produced two beautiful babies, who we hope will have inherited even some of your talent, they sure got your beauty…….and those magnificent EARS.
Sending kisses to your noses, and all the way to FLA for COZ Auntie Sue
To anyone interested I posted an update on the starved mare on the last page of the previous post.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
Thank you, Sue. I will go there to look. Didn’t see anything this morning. Hugs.
Ellie
Wow Coz looks good! Great legs, but they have his front feet too short. Looks so laid back, great temperament. Should do well !! All Right! A War Front baby coming!! Next time look into Wiseman’s Ferry……..I know he’s not a “high dollar” stallion, but his conformation is flawless………….
Lara
Typical of tall young horse at his age to have such small/short looking feet. I am sure they did a trim for this move as well.. He is going to be as big as his momma and his hooves have not grown into him yet.
Max
Love Wiseman’s Ferry and his boy, Wise Dan. Poetry in motion when Danny runs.

OMG I’m crying like a baby!!! Coz is off to school in the “school bus” and my ♥ is aching with anticipation and big hopes for ♥ Zenny’s First Born Prince ♥ I hope Mayberry will be able to share his schooling with us. Selfish, of me I know. If they can’t, I understand.
I have to go…. I can’t see what I’m typing………

DEAREST JAG: Several of us were filled with these emotions. Just as I got over my son leaving home, here goes another “little piece of my heart”….

She’s pregnant again? Don’t you give her a year off for good behavior or something?
LeslieA
WOW! He is SO big and SO beautiful!
They are going to love him down there. Can’t wait to see him in his first race!
Thanks SO much for sharing with us!
shirleeinindy
He sure looks like his mom. Just think what he will look like this time next year. His coat is so beautiful and full of shine and lights.
I hope he is not too afraid in the trailer and with all the new things. Do you all know if any of his LE people went with him.
Gotta admit to a tear or two. It was like watching your own child leave home.
Be safe sweet beautiful Prince.

Just about the best looking colt I have seen in a very long time. Best wishes to all his connections and please let us know he arrived safely. Thanks for sharing.

Coz looks like he’s inherited his mama’s great temperament! What a beauty. He’s off to learn all about what he was born to do. Thanks, Lane’s End!

I’ll echo all the sentiments about kids going off to school….I’m teary too. Live well, Coz and listen to your teachers.
Thanks to all the LE staff and Zennys people for all they’ve let us experience. What an amazing interaction.

what a grand looking horse looking at that pic sure makes me think about a horse i once trained has that look

It’s kind of saddening, watching him go off to school hundred of miles away, hearing him calling to his buddies. But, he’ll make new friends. And many adventures lay ahead of him.
Be safe, Coz, don’t do anything to hurt yourself. Mind your lessons, remember what your Momma told you, and we’ll see you on the track! <3

Dear Judy Goodnight God bless You, LM PC HT and all the Sweeties. Sleep well. Many mixed emotions seeing our special boy going off to school. He looked so beautiful, his mother’s son. Heard on Black Caviar’s twitter that we will know on Thursday if she is in foal!!!Love and hugs SheenaX

Dear Sheena:
Yes, it’s bittersweet that COZ is on his way to training. Wishing him safe and sound always. Hope we get great news on BC on Thursday.
Visited Charlie and Hudson Township yesterday. Went into the paddock and called her. She came right over and I told her how much I love her and missed her while she was away and she ate a whole lot of carrots. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT and all the Sweeties.

JudyB. Missed you yesterday and figured that you were visiting. Nice story.
Sheena. Left a message for you on last blog about buying Hovis’ books. Greetings to you from the Rest of the World. Neigh!

Dear Max:
Thank you. So sweet of you to miss me. Will be making fewer posts over the next few weeks as I am moving to a new apartment complex in Warwick, my home town. Will be closer to my sister and to Angela and the horses. Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. Take it easy with your move. Sounds like a good idea to be closer to your sister and the farm. Charlie, Angela and the others will be glad to see you more often. Hope that you get back soon to all your friends here on the blog, such as Sheena from the UK and those of us living in the Rest of the World. Neigh!
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Judy, So glad you had a great time.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Judy B,
See, HT can sense your sensitive and gentle nature. Maybe she should join Charlie as one of “your” horses, I’m sure she’d settle down and be a happy horse. How great that you are moving closer to town and your human as well as horse family. Hope the move goes well we will definitely miss your posts, hope it is only a short time. hugs
Margaret
Wow he’s all grown up! Such a lovely dark bay. Good luck in school Coz!. We hope to hear splendid and wonderful things about you. And we’ll see you on the other side.
13Z is playing goofing around with his buddies. All good. He can just relax awhile and nature do her thing.
And mama Z has some much needed time off. Now she can just hang with the gals and talk up a storm about who’s dating whom and who’s going to date whom in the spring! Since I haven’t looked it up off the top of my head I’m going to go with a mid April baby. And we will see.
Bonnie
sad to see him leave Lane’s End. God’s speed young Prince and may you always be safe and hope you will return to Lane’s End one day to begin your career as a stallion
