Friday Filly Update

Zenyatta’s filly, early June 2020. Photos by Alys Emson.

Happy Friday!

Zenyatta’s Candy Ride filly is almost three months old, and we couldn’t have asked for a better baby.

Currently weighing almost 400 lbs., she’s above average in height, well-balanced, athletic and leggy.

Much like her mom, she loves attention from humans. Her equine social circle includes offspring of Bernardini, Medaglia D’Oro, and another Candy Ride foal as well.

Check out the collection of photos and videos below!

Hi again Sandy and Marshall and Z Fans

Poor misunderstood Hovis! I must admit to being a bit surprised that Americans can understand some posts of the Diary. It used to give me such a chuckle to see Sheena’s attempts at translation from what we Aussies would call Pommie into American English. Because I couldn’t understand some of the Diary either!! It’s certainly very clever. Cheers and hugs

      Dear Judy,

Thanks for posting the replay of the Pacific Classic — I somehow managed to see most of it on youtube. I was certain that Maximum Security would prevail, and he did! What a determined horse he is. Congratulations to him, Abel Cedillo and all connections! I am happy for him after all he has been through with humans letting him down — he proves that he is a most worthy contender.

Congrats to Midcourt, Victor, John Shirreffs and all his connections, also for holding on to 3rd. Big Congrats to Sharp Samurai and all his connections for a very impressive race to finish second. Well done, boys!!

      Hugs and Love

YAY! It’s about time Max caught a break. I am soooo glad he is now under Bob Baffert’s tutelage and care. May everyone have a lovely evening. Byw has anyone heard anything about Zellda and is there any solid news yet about whether Zenny has been bred again. Good Night from Oregon.

    Dear Zenyatta fans

I know the blog is all about the magnificent Zenyatta but have to share a story about my little girl Thurzel (who also is 17.2). She dislikes rain and thunderstorms and since we’ve had both has been in the barn for a couple of days. Phil, my husband, took her back to her paddock yesterday. She had a nice clean cotton coat on because it was sunny. So she proceeded to wiggle and roll in the largest patch of mud she could find. She looks a proper disgrace and as for the cotton! Three brushes and now in for a wash and it still looks scruffy. But she is very pleased with herself so I guess that’s all that matters. Just wish we had the same grass cover that the Queen does. Thank you for allowing me to intrude. Hugs and cheers

      Dear Kathy R.,

That was no intrusion! Love hearing about equine escapades. ?
Your little girl is simply being a happy horse — hey, she had to christen that new coat properly with wonderful mud❣️
Wow, Thurzel is almost the same height as Queen Z!

Hi Marshall! I think they are the same height. That was what drew my attention to Thurzel the first time I saw her at the track, I could understand the presence Zenyatta would have had on the fans. Hugs and love

You can’t imagine just how much joy these bring to us in this otherwise pretty joyless summer. We are so missing our annual visits to Saratoga…

Hope everybody on Team Z and at Lane’s End is doing well and keeping safe.

This time next year…? In the meantime, please keep these beautiful treats coming!

Hey There, Fellow Horse Lovers –There are a couple of things in today’s (August 31st) Thoroughbred Daily News of interest to all of us. There is a cute new VIDEO OF ZENYATTA and her baby. And there is an article about Sen. Mitch McConnell planning to introduce the HORSERACING SAFETY & INTEGRITY ACT in the Senate. As you all know, this Act has been pending in the House of Representatives and the Senate for over a year. I just received an email from West Point Thoroughbreds urging all thoroughbred lovers to email their Congressperson and their Senators to voice their support for this critically important Act. For more info visit:http://www.horseracingintegrity.com/ and also https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/ …………… Thanks everybody!

Sure feels strange that this is Derby week. Have to admit there are some horses in there that I have not heard of before. Think Tiz has a good post but worry with those Hall of Fame jocks on each side of him. Not that they would do anything unethical but they do know all the tricks and both are on good horses. Of course, just wish a safe trip to all.
