Happy Wednesday!
We hope you are all having fun this summer. 12Z certainly is! He has grown quite a bit, and he now spends much of his time socializing and playing with other colts.
Alys sent us these photos of 12Z having a great time with his buddies–and mom!
Check back this week for the next Ask The Experts post plus an exciting announcement.

He’s growing up so fast
Natalie Kilpatrick
Can’t be too much longer before 12Z leaves Big Z, can it? When is he expected to wean?
Andrea
Usually 5-6 months, so could be any time now! Maybe that’s the big announcement?
Kristy
I was wondering the same thing. If I were to guess it would be coming up fairly soon. Maybe that is what the coming big announcement is about?
Amanda
he will probably be weaned in August. I’m thinking that the announcement will be about his Breyer.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
It is actually around August 8, his 5 month birthday.
He is so adorable, a big boy and Zenny is having
Fun playing with him, too.
darlene
love them
Tara
Such a handsome boy!
Lindsay
Gosh, he has gotten so big and muscular!!
Kayte from Eastern Ont
Wow! I cannot believe how big he is and he’s gonna be heartbreaker in the looks department. I just wanna give ’em all kisses on those cute lil noses…
Good job, Zennie!
Barb Zylbert
He looks awesome! Hope he becomes as good as his mom on the track!
jenn robert
I wonder if the big news will be 12Z’s name.
Kristy
Typically Thoroughbreds aren’t named till they are closer to two years and ready to race. They generally are refered to by Lane’s End’s way of year and first letter of mares name or simply by mare’s name. Even when go off to training they are still refered to by mare’s name till they recieve their own. Unless the barn comes up with a nickname themselves.
Kate
Yes, but this is a special colt with his own legion of fans already in place. Besides – they’re going to announce Rachel Alexandra’s colt’s name soon. We Queen Z fans don’t let the RA camp beat us at ANYTHING.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
hey, don’t dis Rachel. Most of us are in BOTH camps.
Zenyen
I agree with Laura J, many of us are in both camps and I cringe when I see comments like this.
The Mosses do things their way and Mrs. Banke does things her way. Both owners have shown class and an unprecedented generous openness to their fans in a wide variety of different ways.
Everything does not have to come down to a competition.
Denise in AZ
I am in both ‘camps’ — love both mares and foals.. Barbara Banke is announcing Taco’s official name on Friday, the result of her having fans submit suggestions- and they picked one of those.
Nancy/Ca.
I thought it was funny you said that Kate :) Beautiful pictures! Love seeing our Queen so happy too!
Jan S. in Houston
Team Z & Team R, both great horses and people.
GirlSaratoga
I am with Laura and Zenyen, I love both ladies, their stories and babies are so heartwarming. Doesn’t anyone remember they were stable mates back in their racing days? I was so happy to see the pic’s of Rachel and Taco from someone here referring me there. Barbara and Jess were great owner’s just like the Moss’s, they are all fine people. Who knows maybe “Taco” and 12Z will be stable mates or fierce competitors! In any case I am excited to her “Taco’s” official name on Friday and anxiously awaiting 12Z’s name!
andrea
cringe worthy!
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
The Mosses don’t name their foals/horses until they
Are in two year old training so they know their racing
Personality.
All owners are different and Barbara Benke is doing
A wonderful job with RA and Taco just like the
Mosses are with Zenny.
Sue Fl CPRC
That is what I am hoping for. :)
Ashton
What fun they are having. Great photos! Thank you!

Team Z:
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the beautiful pic’s of our girl and her adorable baby! What a great way to get through the rest of the week! “Big Announcement” maybe baby Z’s official name? 12Z looks just like his mom, especially the last pic head on! Z-Girl looks terrific, and hopefully she’s feeling good too! Will stay glued to the site for any “big” news and any pic’s.
Thanks again much appreciated as always!
Susan
so so adorable………He is quite the active little guy. When does he get his name?
Catherine Wells
Looks like he has his mother’s personality!
Leitha
That last picture looks like he’s doing the Angelina Jolie leg pose! HAHA!
sharon in seattle
too funny – you’re absolutely right!!
Bobbie --- Elkhorn WI
I agree!
Jan S. in Houston
And only Angie can strike that pose….
Joan P
Are the owners going to sell him, or race him themselves?
GirlSaratoga
Joan P:
From what i have been told the owner’s are keeping him for themselves! Maybe the “Big” news is the sex of the next foal? I guess we will all know soon even enough!
Amanda
The Mosses do not do fetal sexing so that’s not going to be it. I’m thinking they will be announcing that 12Z will have his own Breyer model. Even though of course alot of us already know. That is just a guess though.
GirlSaratoga
Amanda:
Thanks for the info on the Moss’s not doing gender testing, but what is a Breyer Model? In all of my years of loving and working with horses I have never heard of that? If you have time please let me know what that is?
Thanks !
andrea
GirlSaratoga: Breyer Models are collectibles. They are molded plastic horses in all breeds, colors, etc that you can imagine! They even make them in specific horses in history; racing, show jumping, all disciplines. Check them out online!
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter RNC
The Mosses do not sex type their foals either.
You won’t know the sex of Zenny’s goal until
He or she pops out into the world.
Julia
Look at the bone on that boy! Perfect!
Jill
Thank you so much for sharing these photos. He looks and acts so much like his Mom and seeing them together is heartwarming and smile worthy.
A great way to start the day, a great page to share on the Internet, and photos worth enjoying again and again,
Thanks!!

These are great photos! Looks like Zenny’s coat is getting sun-bleached. She looks great.. all dappled. Will the babies be weaned next month?
Lisag In Texas

So good to see that Zenyatta still feels good enough to run and buck with her son!
Awesome pics, they are the best ones yet.
Barbara Battaglia
Mom is looking so beautiful and healthy. Take good care of her and Baby Z.
Lisag In Texas
So muscular, the hips. Wow, Ms Zenyatta must be so proud of her handsome young man.
Lisag In Texas
Those ears, his mama’s ears.
DONNA
I do believe he will be every bit as tall as his Momma, judging from his leg length, maybe a bit taller even…little different shoulder set, heads a little bit narrower, but his confirmation looks amazing from what I can tell…good to see his pictures @ play…says alot for his attitude…Z looks amazing & seems to have taken to retirement quite well….look forward to seeing her next foal…& to finding out this guys Legal Name….
Gloria
FANTASTIC photos! Thanks for posting. I love to see Zenyatta kicking up her heels. Junior looks like a young man now. Looking forward to the next Ask The Experts. Thank you for keeping us fans in the loop!
Linda E (Ohio)
These photos are awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! Baby Z sure is muscular and I agree with Lisag in Texas-check out those big hips!
Tressa
Nice photos. I love the expert comments. 12Z is actually not a bad name and a great way to distinguish a horse without stepping on an owners toes. I’m always annoyed when we go to the barn and find out the grooms have dubbed one of our precious bundles “psycho” or “porkchop.” Of course, at about 2-months-old I think almost everyone of our foals has been named “butt-head” or worse for a couple weeks.
andrea
I do not know if you will see this post, but you have given me a chuckle! Porkchop! Butt-Head! LOL!!!
Gail
God he IS beautiful!
