Happy Wednesday!
We hope you are all having fun this summer. 12Z certainly is! He has grown quite a bit, and he now spends much of his time socializing and playing with other colts.
Alys sent us these photos of 12Z having a great time with his buddies–and mom!
Check back this week for the next Ask The Experts post plus an exciting announcement.

Oh My!! These pictures are stunning!!! You can almost hear the whinnying and pounding hoofbeats!! And what fun to see The Queen playing just like the “babies”–just goes to show how truly happy she is at Lanes End and just how much she is enjoying this new phase of her life! Wish I could have been standing next to Alys when she was taking these!! Wow!!!
For you Barnaby fans–just want to tell you he is doing so well!! I am sure he has never eaten as well as he is these days. He has grain twice a day, with all kinds of supplements added,Sr. vitamins etc, things for hooves and worming and such. He is so funny waiting for his” dessert “after meals–he just HAS to have his Fuji apples!! I may have mentioned that I am buying them by the case now from the store where I work!! He now demands some of a carrot before he has quite finished the apple–guess he loves the combination!! Maybe it’s kind of like a salad or something. It is so cute to see him frantically sticking his head over the fence begging for the carrot while I am trying to get it to him without being “slimed” by yellow foam!!
His Auntie Sue called me yesterday morning after she had gone out to feed them (she does the morning feedings and do the night ones after work) to tell me how “adorable” they were coming in from out in the field to get their food. There are a couple of smooth river rock-lined ditches running through the field, shallow and wide, to catch the run-off in the spring from the adjacent hills. At one point, there is a sort of bridge across one of them. It looks as though it was made out of a pallet or something–just a large square laid across the space. Barnaby has always been shy of it and has preferred to walk across the ditch rather than use it. Yesterday,Sue said she would have given anything to have had her camera handy,as,when they came in,they walked shoulder to shoulder over the bridge together!! The two of them are really good for each other and are really happy together. Barnaby is now the dominant one though and wants to be sure that he is fed and petted first!!!
@ Dawn and Shari–Am SO looking forward to more about your trip!! It sounds like a dream trip and it must have been just wonderful!!
@ Grand Poobah Terry–Have really been enjoying all of your jokes!! Can’t wait to meet you in November!! What a celebration we are all going to have!! Wonder if this week’s announcement is about the BC!
Hope all have a great day!! Queen Z and Z12,keep having fun and being happy–LOVE YOU!!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Sue,
Great story about Barnaby coming over the bridge with his friend! You paint such wonderful visuals with your descriptions, and I am so happy for both YOU and Barnaby. I couldn’t believe that no one else had commented, and then I realized that we are already to page 3 so the early folks haven’t seen this yet. Nothing like some new pictures to bring out all of Z’s fans. Thanks for the update!
Sandy
Max
Sue Noel. Great comments. Never get tired of hearing about Barnaby. He does sound like a very special horse. We need to hear good news like this often. Please keep posting what is happening with him. All the best to both of you.
ann oconnor
magnificent colt. beautiful lady, you did a great job.
Sue
Wow, what great photos. Z and Z12 look fantastic, healthy and happy! Please keep posting these as it’s fun to watch him grow. I love that Zenyatta is so playful and looks so happy. Can’t wait to hear the big news :)!!
Judy in South Carolina
Wow……..that last photo of BabyZ (will be SO glad when we don’t have to call him that anymore!!!!!!!)………….what a gorgeous colt he is! He just plain and simple has “the look”. Don’t you all agree?
And yes, how great to see Queen Z (even in her delicate condition LOL!) kicking up those heels and playing with the youngsters. So happy, healthy and just enjoying her life.
Thank you so much, Alys, for these photos and for keeping us up to date on our beautiful Zenyatta and her first born.

I think Zen believes she has a lot of lost pasture years to make up for, ha!

Love these pictures. More and more are appreciated!!! They both look great.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for these magnificent photos. Not only do the Queen and BabyZ look marvelously healthy and happy, so do the others in the photos, who also look the part of future stars.
I am looking forward to the announcement later this week, which I believe will have something to do with the BC festivities.
Kelli
He’s almost 6 months old! I think the announcement will be that he is or was weaned.. which is sad, but great at the same time – the little boy is growing up! Though he’s not really that little! :p
Kelli
Correction – he is almost 5 months old, not 6.
Patricia Emery
“Unbelievable” photos! Does he ever resemble the “Queen!” They just look like they are enjoying every moment with each other & obviously, he is trying to learn her “high kicks!” Cannot wait for the big announcement. Team Z is the best & many thanks for sharing.
Sincerely, Adoring Fans-forever…
Abigail from Montreal
Oh Zenny….how GREAT to see you kicking up your heels!!! I did a double-take, thinking “that can’t be Zenyatta…” but then realized it was you! And Z-12 is growing into such a handsome colt. I miss you so much that I can’t wait to see new photos of you and your big boy.
Thank you, Team Z and especially Alys for always taking the time to make me feel that I’m still part of Zenny’s life. And love & hugs to my Zen-ster family — Max, signofthetimes, Judy Berube, Brenda Springer, Dawn, Cynthia, Ashton and too many others to list here.
You’re always in my thoughts!
Anita in SoCal
Thank you for these awesome joyful pictures. Zenny certainly is teaching 12Z a lot! Looking forward to the Announcement!
Kathleen
What great shots!! I love the happy feet shots of mom and son.
It must be getting close to the time when he will be weaned. It’s always a stressful time for mom and baby, but its not so bad if they have ‘buddies’ to go through it with.
Ann Maree / Tennessee
Oh, WOW!!!! Breathtakingly beautiful shots of the Prince and of Z!!!! He is so big, already, and absolutely one big muscle, it looks like!!! She just looks awesome and in such good form, and so happy romping around their world! Thank you so much for these…..my heart is so filled with love for Z and now her son….tears flow when I look at these pictures. Thank you so much! You all are the greatest. Hugs to all! Ann Maree

Thanks to Auntie Judy JAG for the heads up on these new photos so I could take a quick break at work and drool!
Thank you to Lane’s End for these awsome photos of Zenny, (not-so-little) Prince, and their pasture pals. The apple/dapple didn’t fall far from the tree did it? Look at that butt! Talk about horse power.
I know weaning is coming soon, but I also know he’ll have his buddies with him so he’ll do just fine, and Z will have her pasture mates also.
Big announcement? I sure hope it’s about the Zenny party at BC 2012 – so many Z Dumplings are waiting for the details! Clothes to pick out, new shoes to buy, where’s my hat? do I need gloves? Tee hee.
Z Hugs, diastu in tempe (still lurking when I can)

My pleasure GF!! I try to “get the word out” when the news is still hot off the press LOL
Nice to see you posting… Yes, lots of smiles from ear to ear – TOO CUTE!

Wow! We really hit the jackpot today! Many thanks to Alys and all of Team Z for the great photos, but you know we are not a patient group so the “tease” about the big announcement will have everybody on his/her toes and guessing like mad. So far the most popular choice is an announcement about the BC party (that would help us a whole lot), followed by his name, the fact that he’s weaned (isn’t it too early? He isn’t even 5 months old yet), or he has his own Bryer. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
In the shots with the 3 colts, it looks like the lighter one on the left is the same one who was in a picture in 12Z a while back. We know that isn’t Spooky’s colt, but who the heck IS it?
Nice to see that some of our old friends are alive and with us here – you should visit more often!
Amanda
That’s what I was wondering too. Spooky’s is the other colt which looks like he is grey and the other colt has been in alot of shots with 12Z so that looks like that is his best bud. I would like to know who his dam and sire are. I know the dam is chestnut because she was in a earlier picture.
Diana Stuart - Grinning
Who you callin’ old??? :-) Oh – – – yeah – – – I try to forget. Will need a very big cupcake next Wednesday – and a fire truck and firemen standin’ by. The fire truck is optional.

Well I mostly meant it in the nicest possible way, of course! “Old” as in “been around this blog for a long time and waaay longer than me” but don’t show up all that often. Always nice to see YOU Diana :-)

TOO Cute, DS !!!!
Sue Noel/Sun Valley,ID
@ Sandy in NE OH–Thanks so much! It means a lot to me that so many people like to hear about Barnaby John. I think he is such a miracle horse and I love the fact that others seem to appreciate him too. Every time I take someone to meet him, they are just bowled over at how much presence and personality he has. I’m afraid I still shudder sometines when I think of how close he came to perishing at a cruel slaughterers hand. He has obviously been so well trained and cared for prior to coming to me,the thought of this noble fellow not having a happy life is intolerable! His happiness is so very precious to me! Do you remember the line Elizabeth Taylor said in National Velvet when her father was thinking about putting The Pi on exhibit after his Grand National win??? It was,”I’d rather see that horse happy than go to heaven”. That’s how I feel about Barnaby!!
PeggyOne
What an outstanding colt he’s become! Muscular, agile, beautiful and the look of a real race horse.
His name needs to be “Amato Cavallo”……Beloved Horse. Nothing else fits.
Abigail from Montreal
What a GREAT name. Love it!

Dear Peggy One:
Wonderful name. Hugs, JB
Rebecca Garcia
Thank you for posting the beautiful pictures of Zenyatta and Baby Z. They look so healthy and happy. Baby Z has grown so much.
Dawn Deems
Thank you, Thank you for these wonderful photos! I feel like a proud Auntie! Zenyatta looks magnificent, and her colt has the look of a champion. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s as big as his mama someday. It’s great to see the Queen having fun and kicking up her heels. Now we will await the big announcement next week!
Stace/Rolling Hills Estates
What absolutely delightful pictures! That last photo is stunning–I think we are looking at a future champion…God knew what he was doing when he created the Horse. To look at them quiets and uplifts the soul.
Can someone please tell me what be “BC” party is?

Party in Z’s honor at the Breeders Cup :)
HeidiK (Vallejo, Ca)
Stace.. BC party is the Breeders Cup Zenyatta Party. They had one last year and we’re hoping they do it again this year. It usually includes packages with tickets and seats. Luncheon, After party etc.. The packages are usually very reasonable in price. I know that I’m waiting to hear too so that I can get a package deal instead of buying tickets separately for more $$ from the Breeders Cup sight.
PatB from NM
I know what you mean. I wanted to bring my 90-year-old dad again to the SA Breeders’ Cup (we went in 2009 to see Z take it all), but the prices were outrageous. It’ll be great to replicate the great feeling of Z’s Friday at Churchill last year
.

what a handsome young prince, he is so beautiful
