Princess Z’s First Days

Happy Friday!

As you all know, Zenyatta delivered her first filly on Easter Sunday. She was born at 12:03 am, weighing in at 151 lbs! Zenyatta’s lifetime friend and current paddock mate, Life Is Sweet, delivered an adorable colt not an hour before, just as across the aisle from Zenyatta.

Earlier this month we held a contest asking fans to guess 14Z’s birthday, and we received over 2,500 entries. As usual, we couldn’t pick just one winner! Serena Riecken of Ashland, Nebraska is the official winner, guessing April 19 at 11:53 pm. Don Krueger entered April 20 at 12:04 am. He went over by just one minute, so we think he’s a winner too.

Serena and Don will each receive an 11″ x 14″ print of the above photo signed by the photographer and Zenyatta’s owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. If you would like to order a print of this image for yourself, it is now available here at the Zenyatta Shop.

In the coming days we will share more images from the night of the foaling, our trip, and Zenyatta with her darling filly. For now, we’ll leave you with just a few new photos.

Enjoy!
-Team Z

    April 28 Cherokee Devotional

How frightening to be out of touch-but how normal! There are times and places we go through that are strange-both in feeling and understanding. We experience an uneasy feeling and want to rush back to the familiar-even though it isn’t the place to be either. In growing, we go through strange places and think unusual thoughts. Fear of the unknown has made us wary, questioning, reaching for something to steady us, to give us direction and purpose. But we must expand our spirits, enlarge our thought to accept or reject what we have yet to learn. The American Indian has known the strangeness of new lands, new customs, has fought and lost-only to fight and win. Some are caught in between, but their staying power is in the Great Spirit who ever holds our hand and intercedes on our behalf.

I would that I could make the red people as great as the conceptions of my own mind, when I think of the Great Spirit that rules over us all.

Just logged in today and saw the new photos of Princess Z. They are just “Too Cute”. As ZZ Top’s song says “She’s got legs and she knows how to use them”. One of my favorite songs and when I saw those legs that’s what I immediately thought of. She is beautiful. Just like her mom.

Max, Did you read Steve Haskin’s account of General a Rod hooking up with Will Take Charge in his workout Sat? Ran right with him and didn’t seem cowed by the size of WTC. Guess he has some of Big D’s spirit.

Anybody know a mudder for the Derby?

I’m not sure which of the Derby horses, if any, has run on an off track or if there are Mudders in the pedigrees. We’ll have to check the past performance charts when they’re available. Love and Hugs, JB

Good question about mudders. CC has never run on an off-track so you really don’t know what to expect. Not saying he can’t handle it, but the element of chance would be preent. Hard to bet when a wild card is introduced into the equation.

Monty digging to Australia…that would be something to see!Arkansas is part of “Tornado Alley.” So deadly and extremely destructive. Zoe is adorable getting used to her new shoes. Cuteness overload! Marty’s people are marketing geniuses. Think of it…if you can market a RAT you can market anything! So heartwarming seeing Fubu doing well. I pray it lasts a considerable time. Can’t wait for his hair to grow out. I’m not a fan of the lion cut! Enjoy the sunshine. Have a good week. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Thinking of Zenyatta, Coz, Zi and little 14Z this morning with LOVE.

Hi all Zsters; Had a brief moment as I have finally gotten things all ready for an upcoming big event. My son, Ryan a 39 yr. old single man, became engaged last fall and the Big wedding takes place May 17th.

I am very happy for the both of them. I only wish he would not have waited so long as at my age the last thing I wish to do is wear heels!! I searched for a pair that weren’t like match sticks and found it. hah I have been running all over the place getting outfits for my grandkids and then when I see them, having them try them on; running and returning things too. My other son with the children is divorced so I have taken on this challenge as the bride- to- be wants a perfect wedding.
I am going to have a blast up at my BFF’s for the Kentucky Derby this Sat.!! Calif Chrome is amazing, but at the Derby no one knows who will shine that day.
    hugs, Sally B

Sally, I can relate. My daughter did not marry until 40. Wore the heels but boy did they hurt and finding a dress was quite a challenge. They must think we “mature” ladies either don’t wear dresses or we want to show our midriffs and other activities! No such thing as a perfect wedding but all will work out at this time of joy for your family.

Enjoy the Derby but DO NOT DRINK the mint julips! Nasty! Good luck with your horses.

    TREVE UPDATE
Al Shaqab Racing ‏tweet Monday April 28 2014
Treve is absolutely fine following her epic duel yesterday.
At the moment the plan remains the same which is
to run in The Prince of Wales.

Per Steve Haskins-General a Rod is not above taking a hunk out of you. Shades of Big D! Also, he has been sold to Starlight.

If it were a beauty contest, California Chrome and Danza would win hands down. CC appears to be quite the character. Don’t know if he has any experience with a muddy track.

Should have won the triple crown. Similar to what happened with Tim Tam.

Sorry. That was meant as a reply to quarterhossgal’s comment about Charismatic.

A General who has inherited the Big D genes is my kind of horse. Hoping for a good showing by Medal Count too. Then there’s that grand ole chestnut, CC. Let them all be safely home.

Here is an old chestnut that is one of my favorites. A woman was reading the local newspaper when she noticed that there had been a rash of robberies in the neighborhood. She yelled at her husband, who was terribly henpecked, to come there. “There have been a lot of break-ins around here lately. I want you to go to the pet shop and buy a watch dog.” “Yes, dear,” the man meekly replied. “And, make sure you get one before I come home,” the wife added. The man went to the local pet shop and asked the man in the store if he had a watch dog for sale. “Well, I’ve got one, but he has been returned three times. He can do the job, though.” “Fine. Can I have a look at him,” said the husband. He was taken in to the back room of the store where he saw a toy poodle. “Doesn’t look like much of a watch dog,” the husband said. “You don’t understand,” said the store clerk “This dog knows karate.” The clerk could see that the man was skeptical. “Allow me to demonstrate,” said the clerk. There was a wooden table in the room. The clerk tuned to the dog, looked at him, and said “karate the table.” Wham, boom, and the table was reduced to kindling. “I’ll take him,” said the man. “Just remember,” said the clerk, “when you give him a command you must look directly at him.” “Okay,” said the man. And he took the dog home with him. When the wife got home, she asked her husband “Worm, did you get the watch dog like I asked you too?” “yes I did, dear,” he said. “OK,” said the wife, “let me see him. The husband brought in the dog and the wife couldn’t stop laughing. “I send you out for a watchdog and this pitiful creature is all you can bring home?” “You don’t understand” said the husband. “This dog knows karate.” The wife turned and looked at the dog. “Karate my butt,” she said.

      Terry,

I laughed so hard on that one. The mental image that gives me is
      priceless!

I had a toy poodle, but he did not know karate.
