It has been a beautiful spring in Kentucky for Zenyatta and her paddock mate, Vixana. Alys Emson often stops by their paddock with her camera, and she took the following photos in May and June.
When Zenyatta looks straight into the camera I feel that she is communicating so much love right back at us. Marty please stay with us as long as you can. No matter how many years pass I still feel like its 2009 and the thrilling ride has just begun. Ascot was glorious. Congratulations to all the winners. Thrilled for the Queen. I didn’t know Prince Charles and Camilla were into racing. Happy to know the Queen’s legacy will continue. Songbird is the best three year old in the country. Haskell!!! Tepin, Beholder, Songbird…GIRLPOWER! Took my Dad flowers at the cemetery on Sunday and someone had already been there. Since his passing in 1996 I have often been surprised in this way. I don’t know who they are from but they are always unique. Once there was a bouquet in a cowboy boo. I hope the person that leaves them knows how much it means to me that your affection for my Dad has lasted all these years. God Bless.
For anyone else who has been following these 2, an update:
Pennmarydel, last full brother to Barbaro, has moved to another career and is being loved and cared for by a lady named Allie Cooper. She post photos on her FB of him.
Far From Over has been at Belmont with Todd P and is slated to have his first start back on Friday in the 3rd. It has been over a year since he was injured. Hope he is fully recovered. He has been posting good times in his works.
Still trying to find out what happened to Materiality. Afraid something bad since no one can get any information.
Thank you for these updates on Penn and Far From Over. Wishing Penn the very best life with his new owner and Godspeed to Far From Over in his first race back. Hope he is is fully recovered.
All the articles on Materiality I could find are from last August announcing his retirement, but they don’t indicate what farm he is retired to. One article stated “stallion arrangements have not been finalized”. I looked for an email address for his last listed owners, Alto Racing, LLC, to see if I could get any info on him. I could not find a phone number or email address for them. As he retired last August, this breeding season should have been his first year at Stud. Will check Thoroughbred Pedigree Query site to see if any progeny are listed next Spring. BloodHorse should publish articles on the arrival of his first foals I would think. Hope he’s OK. Love and Hugs, JB
A huge THANK YOU to all who wrote to support Traveller and Barnaby through this colic scare. They are scheduled to come home tomorrow, barring no complications. We’re going back out there tonight after work to do more clean up in the barn. The barn at East Fork has not been used for horses in over 10 years–just for storage. Our horses like the shelters out in the pastures. Now, they need to use the adjoining stalls in the barn. We have moved SO much stuff into the other part of the barn, thrown away a ton of junk and scrap lumber, etc. It will be ready for them tomorrow, except that Barnaby’s stall has about 2 tons of hay in it, which will be moved on Thursday. Sue arranged for her “hay guy” to clear it out and put it in the third stall, which is the back part of the barn.
Until the hay gets moved ,he will be in an enclosed grassy area, which adjoins the barn, with a lovely lawn upon which he loves to nibble. We will lock the gate so that her gardners, etc. cannot open the gate and let him out. One of the gals at work made a great laminated sign saying DO NOT ENTER-HORSES INSIDE! He will be able to walk in and out of the barn to visit her–and then we can put him in his stall next to her.
Just SO hope all will proceed as it should and that she will make a full recovery. Boss Mare Sue’s sister, was a track vet at Santa Anita for years and she is quite concerned about her.
Will keep you posted on how it all goes !!
Happy Dreams, Sweet Zenny !! Wish you could meet my Barnaby–you would think he is one handsome dude!!
Dear Sue.So happy to hear Traveller and Barnaby will soon be in their summer home and I hope Traveller continues to recover God bless them both.Look forward to updates.Love and hugs Sheena
Will keep sending prayers and positive thoughts for Traveller’s smooth recovery. I hope everything goes well with the homecoming, also. Bless both Traveller and Barnaby, and please, St. Francis, keep watch over them. Bless you and Boss Mare Sue, too.
Sue Noel; I have not been reading posts very often but tonight I read yours. Wishing nothing but good things for Traveler and Barnaby and now a stall for each, their personal home. God bless them and you.
hugs, Sally B
You ladies must be exhausted with the daunting task of getting the barn ready for your horses on top of the worrying about Traveller’s health on top of working, too. That’s “Girl Power” in action. Thank you for the update and continued good thoughts are sent your way.
Power UP, Traveler. Praying for good recovery.
Barnaby- good boy! You are a great friend and need some watermelon treats.
Hang in there, Sue and Boss Mare Sue. Always tough when our babies are sick. Thinking of you during this stressful time.

Wow! I am blown away twice! SH has written yet another tremendous article with beautiful tributes to a matchless singer/musician and to a simply awesome filly. Thank you, JB, for posting these links.
I had not heard Eva Cassidy before, but will surely never forget this stunning talent. I must add her to my music collection! I listened to several songs in addition to “Songbird” and “Over the Rainbow”, and they are all beautiful, especially “Fields of Gold”. What a huge loss to the world.
The wonderful Songbird who wins races so brilliantly and gracefully is unforgettable, too. May good health and soundness be hers always!

This was such a great article (yet again). I think a lot of us spent some unexpected time on YouTube! :-)
Dear Kathy. My Grandparents and then aunties always loved sweet William, wallflowers and night scented stock plus nasturtiums of course.I loved sweet peas and my favourites were lilies-of-the valley and lilac!Glesni is busy doing some nestorations and bob no 1 is insisting on “helping”!I read about your heatwave last night in the mailonline to me it looks hot all over the states compared to us in the UK!There was a photo of smoke billowing over the San Gabriel mountains looked scary and I think I read there is a town called Thermal near Palm Springs the temps reached 119F and some were frying eggs on the pavement.Sadly 4 were killed in Arizona some hikers I think.

There’s nothing like scent from flowers. I love the scent the orange blossoms leave. Just like opening a bottle of perfume! That’s so precious of bob # 1 to help his mama. The heat’s been severe over the southwest. As sweet Zoe says, hotter than H E double hockey sticks. They frequently try frying eggs on the pavement when it gets really hot. That’s tragic that 4 lost their lives in AZ. A really bad idea to go hiking in those temperatures! Yes, all the doughnuts need to be refrigerated or else the icing will melt off. We can’t let that happen! Sweet Buddy…13 years old. He’s certainly a beautiful little pomeranian. I hope he enjoyed his delicious chicken dinner. Happy birthday to Lil Bub. I will look for the AP photo. Congratulations to him! We are doing our best to keep cool. Get your snack all lined up so you can enjoy tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of today. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Sue Colvin; All one has to do is place yourself in God’s hands. Some times that is not easy to do as we prefer to remain in control. It is easier in Gods hands. I once learned this.

Dear Judy.Summer has arrived in Phoenix for blogpaws and posted a video. She is busy checking out her room. Not really a place to be with a natural fur coat but am sure A/C is working well there. There were a few intruder ospreys around the Dyfi today and a young Scottish bird further north. The birds at Lowes have been ringed but no one mentioned whether they were male/female.More news tomorrow. They never name them though.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Traveller Update—When we got down to the hospital this morning, her surgeon said “I had a cancellation this morning, so they can go home now” He brought his truck and trailer aroung and we loaded them in and Boss Mare Sue led the way.
When we got up to East Fork,we unloaded them and led Traveller into her stall. We kept Barnaby near on his lead rope. It’s a little dark in the barn so he was a little unsure about it. When I took his halter off, he wandered off a bit and was eating grass. When he’d been out of sight for a couple of minutes, she neighed for him. He called back to her and trotted right into the barn and touched noses with her,as she had her head over the stall door. Later,we were all outside and he again wandered out of her sight line. She called for him again and, once again, he answered and trotted right to her, as if to say,”what do you want,Honey?” It was SO cute.
After they get the hay moved tomorrow, I’ll go down after work and clean everything left over out of his stall and open the 5 bales of horse bedding for him and get him all set up. We will then go down each morning and hand walk them and clean their stalls, before I go to work at 10AM. Then, after work, I will go down to check on them in the evening before I go home. Boss Mare Sue works most evenings at the theatre.
She has to be in the stall for a month, except for walks. Then she will move to a small enclosure connected to one of the shelters for another month.. He will then be confined to another pasture, connected to the other shelter, next door. There is enough cross-fencing there to make the whole thing quite workable, so all should be well, as long as she doesn’t have any problems.
We are ALL so grateful for your thoughts and prayers, and sweet comments—THANK YOU!!!!
Hope all here have a lovely evening—and–Zenny Girl–kisses on the wind to you!!
Thanks for this good report on Traveler. What a special bond she has with your boy, Barnaby. That should be a great help in her recuperation. Sending continued healing prayers. Love and Hugs, JB

Was going to reply above but decided to keep reading first. So glad to know that they are “home” AND that you are able to arrange accommodations that suit both Traveller’s recovery needs and her need to be near Barnaby (and vice versa). What a project it must have been (and still is) to get this all organized. Hope you can manage everything that needs to be done without getting worn to a frazzle! Sending good thoughts and prayers.

Acknowledging joy works like yeast in bread dough. When yeast is activated by kneading it into the other ingredients and kept warm and handled carefully, it expands into lovely loaves that brown in the oven and gives off an unbelievably wonderful fragrance. We have to help the good things grow into such strength they cannot be challenged by recalling anything of unhappiness. Unhappiness has visited all of us-and all of us have to decide when it should leave. Don’t cherish the bad times but smother them out of existence with the good. It works.
Love one another and do not strive for another’s undoing. Even as you desire good treatment, so render it.

Dear Zenny and Family,
We got back day before yesterday from our summer trip. Missed you, Zenny, and everyone on your website. So looking forward to catching up when the dust (not to mention the laundry) settles. We went up to Wyoming and Colorado and camped in the boonies whenever we could (in our camper). Saw such amazingly beautiful country and horses and wildlife. Took lots of hikes. Had lots of quiet study time before dawn, which is always the best way to start the day.
Thank you Als for the beautiful photos of Zenny and Vixana. These two ‘girls’ look to be having such fun together.
Will post a few notes about our trip soon.
Missed and love you all so much!
Elizabeth
Glad to have you back, Elizabeth. Sounds like you had a grand trip (something I could not have managed even when I was at my best). Will look forwarding to hearing about some of your adventures. Wish you could put up some pictures!
Dear Kathy.I am late today after shopping. It’s a beautiful day here in west Wales but torrential downpours in Eastern England.London had thunderstorms and flash flooding overnight too.3 days of mud and the great unwashed at Glastonbury. The “bobs”are doing well in the sunshine. Our big day has arrived in the UK.We will know the result around 6am I will be sleeping!!Wimbley habbed a bath and is all squeaky clean .They had much news about Gourdon and family but poor Bo is looking all over for his mother Kat.I love Gourdon’s girlfriend C.D Lessmelon.I always try and cherish the good times and remember my grandmother baking bread.I heard a sad story about a 79yr od lady who fell in her kitchen(she lived alone no family)she survived for a week by licking the drips from her fridge! The policewoman felt so sad they had a whip round and bought her a new TV.Is this the sort of society we live in where no one cares for their neighbour.Loki is still doing very well they have A/C downstairs now so life is easier for him he also has a cool pad to lay on.Ray has lost some more friends too.Hope you have a great Friday eve it’s National take your dog to work day tomorrow!Hope you are managing to stay cool.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Enjoy today’s nice weather. Pity Eastern England is being hit hard. And flooding in London? Hope the Royals are coping okay with that! Hope Glastonbury gets out from under the mud. Good to hear the “bobs” are thriving. There’s a lot of nervous excitement about your big day! You’ll find out the result when you wake up. Glad Wimbley is nice and clean. Yes, I saw the lengthy news from Gourdon. I can relate to the memories of baking bread. Nothing better! Oh, that poor 79-yr. old lady. I guess that’s a good lesson to get to know your neighbors! Glad to hear Loki is doing well. Poor Ray, losing more friends. Happy Friday Eve to you. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
To Sue Noel, So glad to hear your dear B and T are home and helping each other to deal with scary things. Your devotion to them is worth the reward of experiencing all the good and the bad with them. Wish I could be there to witness all your adventures. Love your country. Glad I don’t have to do all that work though. Pray for a steady recovery for Traveller. For Judy and Shirlee – once again I am amazed at the delight this blog has been for me. I cannot believe all the wonderful things I have been exposed to through all your interesting references. Just when I need a new interest you come up with something super. Thanks for Eva Cassidy. played her music all day I cannot believe I had never heard of her. I haven’t been too impressed with the “popular” music for years. And finally, for Zenyatta, I would like to hear from the “horse’s mouth” direct are you or are you not.? I will try to live with it either way but pray that you are expecting. PLEASE let us know if all is ok. Love you, Nancy

The Lord’s Vineyard…….
Vineyard of the Lord
Land delightful and divine
Sweet are the grapes therein
Precious is their wine
Wondrous, joyous, eternal
Beautiful, lovely and fine
Such is the sacred Vineyard
Yes, such is the chosen Vine
For Christ is the true Vine
His children in Him abide
Taste we do eternal Life
As we remain by His side
Lord, sweet is Life I know
The true Life I find in You
Grant that I remain forevermore
A branch in Your Vine true
Apart from You I lose life
Apart from You I have naught
Abide in me, then, and I in You
For I am Your daughter blood-bought
Your blood is the Wine we drink
It is the Drink of eternal life
You shed Your precious blood
That the Church may be Your Wife
Rejoice then we do in the Vineyard
Sing praises we do of the True Vine
Drink we do of the cup You give
Delight we do in Your Wine
So humbled I am by Your love
My heart quivers to think how vast
Pouring all of Yourself for me
You, my Lord, the First and Last
Tears of joy well in my eyes
My Master, my Creator, loves me so
Glorious to feel Your arms embrace
Wondrous to feel the love You show
Lord, I long to give You my all
To pour of myself as You did for me
For it is Your wine that delights
It is Your love that brings all to be
Let me then be always one with You
A branch of Your eternal Vine
Let me bide in You, and You in me
For I am Yours, and You are mine
How I love my Lord Jesus
My lips from praise I cannot refrain
Each day I delight in being with You
Each moment my joy I cannot contain
Dance I do in the Vineyard of the Lord
Rejoice I do in the land divine
For sweet are the grapes therein
Priceless and precious is their wine
Lord Jesus, sweet is Life I know
Lovely the true Life I find in You
Grant that I remain with You forevermore
A branch in Your Vine timeless and true

Sue Colvin; All one has to do is place yourself in God’s hands. Some times that is not easy to do as we prefer to remain in control. It is easier in Gods hands. I once learned this.

Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Enjoy today’s nice weather.

Good morning everyone.
As we wait for further news on Zenny’s “maternal status” I thought that this might prove a welcome distraction.
It’s about Man O’ War’s most brilliant daughter, whose memory risks extinction for reasons completely beyond her control:
