Happy Thursday!
A team from The Blood-Horse was recently in Kentucky filming a feature about Zenyatta that will run as a Breeders’ Cup longform at Bloodhorse.com.
The piece will tell the story of Zenyatta’s career and connections, her charisma, and the fan following she maintains to this day. The Bloodhorse team went to Lane’s End to collect video footage to include in this special online feature and visited with Ziconic as well as 14Z. Meanwhile, their photographer in New York collected images of Cozmic One in training with John Shirreffs, which will also be included in the piece.
Here you can see a few photos of the team in action. Pictured above right is Multimedia Producer Scott Tracy and Online Features Editor Claire Novak in the paddock with Z Princess. Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes footage below.
This piece is set to run on October 27, and we’ll remind everyone when it is released. We can’t wait to see it!
You can check out another recent longform feature they did on Arlington’s Richard Duchossois and the upcoming Arlington Million here.
Enjoy!

Hi all; In the last two weeks we have lost 2 great volunteers. One of them stated grand kid commitments, the other that she has served for two years and has other family interests. Both have spoken to me how disheartened they were in the way that Sir left our sanctuary. The remaining of us have much more a.m.s and weekends to cover now. I am truly getting worried about our program because we have three other horses left. It seems it is going down hill since our CC owner and decision maker worked on getting rid of Sir. I go to care and enjoy these individual amigos of mine, but each time I do go, I still feel such a void without Sir. It truly feels empty with out him there. He was the life at the barn; Mr. personality! I at my age age have averaged two days a week of chores since I began the program over two years ago. I wish others would step up a bit to fill the weekends. Perhaps that is why some no longer show up at meetings and for some are leaving the program. (They signed up to help for one time a week and now requests are more?) In a way I do not blame them.
I can not be the last one standing at the horse sanctuary; I am not a comedian!! Ironically all volunteers did wish to have Sir live and not be euthanized, but if we lose practically all volunteers, CC will then do what they planned to do to Sir to our 27, 32 and 34 year old’s. They this time would not have a choice. SAD
Goodnight, hugs, Sally B

Dear Sally:
What a sad situation at the CC. I hope it does not come to euthanasia for these three noble elders. My heart aches for you and how you are missing Sir. God Bless you for all you have done and continue to do for these beloved horses. Love and Hugs, JB

Totally agree with Judy’s comment Sally: a very disheartening situation. Hugs, KathyR

Dear Sally,
I don’t know the situation but can feel for you. Though Sir is not with you physically (I am so sorry),he is there in spirit and will help you.Best of luck getting new volunteers(other people may help with ideas about how to do this) who can create good energy and give much needed help. This could be the start of something new and good-that would be nice in Sir’s memory.
Goodnight
Debbie

Just finished making another batch of Stud Muffin Treats. Tweaked the recipe just a little. Found by adding 1/4 cup of water, it binds the ingredients better and makes it easier to shape into balls and flatten the muffins out. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Judy:
Have amended my recipe accordingly! Thanks for the update, Love and Hugs KathyR

Dear Sheena
You are probably aware of the article in the Guardian : John Gosden,Taghrooda’s trainer was philosophical in the defeat and says that Taghrooda is going to the Arc. .I hope she has a good rest and would love to see her win it too!! The King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot must have taken a lot out of her.Her accomplishment in winning it was extraordinary.Z fans this is impressive:
-first British-trained female winner since the four-year old Time Charts n 1983.
-the first British-trained three-year-old filly to win.
-the first three year old filly to succeed since French-trained Pawnese in 1976
She was undefeated in her two and three year old campaign until today and she and Tapestry had a great race.Tagi, you are remarkable!
Sheena, many thanks for making us aware of this amazing filly. Wow!! Debbie

Dear Zenyatta family:
Went to visit my little girl this morning. Felt very pleased with myself because I went alone to her paddock and put on her headstall and rearing bit and led her up to the stable. She was happy to stand quietly while I brushed her, but there was a lot of activity in the stable area today and she was getting a bit jumpy as I replaced her rugs and prepared to take her back to her stable. On the way back, she was very much on her toes, and was pushing me about quite a bit: had to stop often and put my hand on her shoulder to calm her down. Jemma came to help me out – she was taking another horse back to a stable along the lane, and we swapped horses because Thurzel was doing half rears and breaking into a trot. So I put the other horse in its stall, and then came back to Thurzel. We went down to the paddock, and I took off her gear and she took off – straight to the brown rangy gelding and started flirting unashamedly! What a little hussy! Jemma immediately said “now that explains her naughty behaviour – she’s in season!” I’m assured by the Elegant Emily that there are no stallions in her paddock, because while I very happy to be the Mum of a horse, it’s far too soon to be a Granny. Yet another amazing learning experience with my little girl! Sorry for the long ramble – hugs KathyR

Every time we think we make a mental picture. The more we look at the picture on the motion picture screen of our minds, the more real it becomes. We forget that it is imaginary, but our emotions pick up on what the mind has seen and the image causes delight, or tears, or even anger. Our emotions manipulate us and cause us to do things we would never do under different circumstances. When we give in, these mental suggestions cause us pain, jealousy, and even anger. If our mental vision tells us we have been wronged, anger causes us to react foolishly. In such cases, we tend to go on the warpath, not for any commonsense reason, but because we fed ourselves the wrong mental pictures.
We do not take up the warpath without a just cause and honest purpose.

Dear Kathy.Very wise words, far too many are on the warpath these days.I often wonder what’s going on in their minds.Gwynant has just returned after going AWOL yesterday it won’t be long before our “babies”will fly the nest.Deri wasn’t too keen on Dai Dots landing on HER nest!

It’s very poignant seeing the babies growing up so fast. Congratulations to Joey for all his likes. He has a big staff to take care of him. They all LOVE him! So glad you’re enjoying such great racing. Congratulations to Estimate and Pale Mimosa. I don’t blame Fubu for not liking the storm. I don’t care for them myself! I’m sure he’ll have a nice party on the 30th. Mango has some beautiful little outfits. Another fashionista! Have a wonderful Friday, and and enjoyable weekend. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear debbie s:
Yes, praying for a safe break and good racing luck for our beautiful Ebby on Sunday. Rooting so hard for a win for CC in his comeback race. Godspeed to both of them.
I mixed the water in with the dry ingredients and then added the molasses last and mixed by hand. Kind of icky, sticky to handle; but the horses do love them. Love and Hugs, JB

Hello! Everyone has difficult times in their life. My illness changed me in small and great ways. I like to think that I am a much nicer person and appreciate the world around me. Sally I know how difficult it must be for you when you feel so deeply. You and the elder horses are in my prayers. I am worried about Terry Crow. I miss him. Jackie is alive and well. He is growing at a furious pace and getting into everything including my flowerbeds. How can I be mad at him? He has such an amazing personality. Looking forward to the races this weekend, especially the girls. It was 71 degrees here this morning and the humidity was lower. It’s hard to take temperatures over 100. I’m not getting nearly enough exercise and staying in the house I’m eating too much. I’ve gained six lbs. which didn’t thrill my doctor. Hope chasing Jackie will take care of that. Sorry to go on so long. Be safe.

Dear Vicki:
Hoping you feel better. Will keep you in my prayers. Very difficult not to laugh at the antics of our little mischief makers. Have to try to keep a straight face and scold when necessary. Have been in contact with TC through email. Told him that Z’sters are missing him. Love and Hugs, JB

Here (hopefully) is a link to yesterdays duel between Tapestry and Taghrooda at York. This was really quite a race, and Tagi “just” lost to a fierce competitor. They left everyone else in the dust.

Thanks, Sandy, it was a thrilling finish! I wouldn’t have known otherwise, as just too busy with other priorities. I do miss not being able to come here as much as I used to. But work is intensely demanding, and I struggle just to get enough sleep each night.
