You’re Invited – Please Join Me for My Birthday Party!

Zenyatta Enjoying Her Pasture, March 2022. Photo by Todd Claunch.

We are not joking when we say one of the most special days of the year is April 1st.  The day our Queen Z joined the world.  Today Zenyatta turns 18 years old – Happy Birthday!  And, if you recall, Z gave us all a wonderful birthday surprise on this day 9 years ago when her 2nd colt, Ziconic was born.

We have a special party planned today and we hope to see you there!

Today at 2PM EST, @lanesendfarm will be streaming live Zenny’s Birthday Party on their Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/lanesendfarm See you there!

Remember, you can now purchase your 2021 Zenyatta Celebration sticker here to enter the raffle and be one of 10 lucky winners to visit Zenyatta at Lanes End Farm.

Wow what a day at the races. I don’t bet, but two of my faves came in second and the one I thought had the least change of winning did. Tabia. Not bad for having only run one other time. There’s a storm coming in later this evening and the forecast indicates we may be having rain or snow all next week. YIKES! So far, it seems April is trying to show March what it was SUPPOSED to be doing last month, or maybe Mother Nature just got a bit confused. Anyway, PLEASANT DREAMS to all.

The Desert Dawn win yesterday is really making the KY Oaks look very very nice!
Meanwhile the horse from Japan is tucked away in his stall, munching away and getting ready!!! Bet he is loving the KY welcome.

Just saw that Forbidden Kingdom is out of the Derby. Mr. Manella thinks he might have an ulcer under his epiglottis (spelling?) You all know what I mean. Also think Classic Cause is out.

Bravo to all the winners yesterday! Especially, Mike and Tabia! I guess he got up on the right side of his stall. He ready to go but Mike settled him down. Brava to Cairo Memories with Mike guiding her to a win on the turf.

      Dear Judy,
Thank you for posting this slideshow tribute to Citation. What an amazing list of accomplishments, and what an Iron Horse he was! Love that last photo of him — he just looks SO sturdily built, what a hunk!!
Glad he had a long happy retirement at Calumet. 1945-1970, that was a nice
long life especially when you consider he was racing almost weekly.
Hail Citation! He is certainly one of the G.O.A.T.s. 🥰
      Hugs and Love

      Judy,
Thanks for posting all the Citation photos. They were iron horses in those days. I do remember them racing in the Derby Trial and then back in the Derby. My handicapping skills appeared early. I picked Coaltown. These are the first Derby horses I remember.

    Martha,
Zellda is at Lane’s End for breeding. Since it is almost the middle of April, I’m guessing that she has been bred & I hope that she’s in foal. I have no idea who she was bred to.
I imagine that Zilkha is at the Mayberrys’ in FL for her basic training under saddle and will then go to John S. to prepare for the races.
Hello to everyone! I have been keeping up with you all on the blog but just have not written. I have been keeping you in my prayers, too.
I think that it is going to be just as hard to pick the winner of the KY Oaks as it will be for the 20 horse Derby field this year. This crop of fillies is really tough and some of them may be good enough to beat the boys later this year.

Happy Hovis Day!! Our boy is busy trying to avoid a wide range of spring perils and also trying to reconnect his brain with his hooves. Mother takes a few jabs as usual.

A blessed Good Friday to those who celebrate. With Holy Week being as late as it is this year, you’d think there would be better weather (and not “flurries” in the forecast for Sunday morning)!
