Zenyatta recently received a visit from Australian photographer Bronwen Healy. You can see more of Bronwen’s work on her website, http://www.bronwenhealy.com.au.
Totilas has been retired from competition.I have just been watching his magnificent performance at Olympia in 2009 with Edward Gal.Greed and greed alone ruined this horse.Gleneagles run in the Juddmonte is “up in the air” after 9mm of rain.Aidan is worried.Decision in the morning.Sheena
Dear Sheena,
Thank goodness for Toto. Hope he is able to breed. I hope GE is able to run, thought
their was not supposed to be that much rain, what about GH, he does not like soft either.
I did not realize Arlington turned soft Sat, don’t think anyone thought about it, it happens so rarely for us, your trainer are more in tuned. Wonder who Adian will have wear high heels to walk the course- that is a Micheal Dickinson trick, ha ha !!!
Love and hugs
Toto has been breeding. Reproductive technologies are OK in the sport horse world. I once saw an article or something that mentioned that an embryo by Totilas sold for 5000 Euro.
Max
lauraj is right. Toto does not breed by live cover like a TB. Should be okay. LauraJ was also the first to bring this wonderful horse to our attention. Wish him a good retirement.
I love this special Lady and those Dapples look Great on her…Thank You for posting such precious pics of our girl and she does look like she’s putting on some weight and on her, it’s Beautiful…
Mary Lou
She is just magnificent, such a beautiful face with greatness in every line. I loved seeing her race more than any other horse even though she just about stopped my heart each time! May God bless…♡
Thank you to Bronwen Healy for these picture of Zenyatta; they are gorgeous. All of her fans appreciate her sharing these with us.
Zenyatta still looks so incredibly beautiful; She even looks like she could still be out there racing! Thank you to all of Team Z and to Land’s End for taking such special care of her. She still means so much to her fans.
OMG! I’m still trying to come down to earth after seeing War Front last week. It took less than 5 seconds to figure out why the Moss’s chose to try again! Sadly my pictures came out blurred from that day–soft focus.
But as pretty as Z is, War Front is every bit as handsome!
I’m trying to figure out Ziconic’s coloring from Tapit and Z. I think it has to do with all the color genes–science that way confuses me! Tapit’s picture happily turned out very nicely!
I didn’t get to see Bernie cause he’s in Australia.
I got to see Union Rags another one of those pictures that I can enlarge as big as a house!
I saw Genuine Reward on Saturday. He is a poser! You ask for his ears up, head over the fence–yup! In exchange for carrots! And he’s a total sweetheart! Silver Charm is so handsome. The Japanese that had him did a lovely job ensuring he looks as fantastic as he does!
I got to see Secretariat’s last born son Tinners Way.
I saw mares and foals at TaylorMade! I saw Pioneerof theNile at Winstar! Paynter looks fabulous!
I saw the Ladies of Our Mims. Got to help feed grain! I had the wrong corner with one mare, and she stood in the right corner and gave a couple of low whiskers helping me! Elmo is a total gent. He’s a Breeders Cup Sprint champ!
I had a FABULOUS week in Lexington. I can recommend the Comfort Suites in Georgetown. They recently went through a renovation. They work so hard to make your stay everything you could want. Breakfast is free and actually quite good! You have a late afternoon/early evening snack of chocolate chip cookies and popcorn.
Georgetown is a bit out of Lexington, but the payoff is quiet motel, being out in the country. For the several times I’ve been there this is now my GOTO motel!
Re: Ziconic’s color. Ziconic is not grey because he did not inherit a grey gene from his daddy. Tapit passes his grey gene on 50% of the time, and does not pass it on 50% of the time.
Ziconic is red (chestnut) because he inherited a gene for red from both parents. Red is recessive, which is why you can’t “see” Zenyatta’s red gene. But it’s there and she can pass it to her offspring.
Margaret, did you get to see Tiznow at Winstar? He wasn’t feeling his best, but I noticed the other day, he was back holding court with the visitors, posing for pictures, and then asking for treats.
I agree about how beautiful Zenyatta is, rather as dark as black, when she was excited about racing, or a summer bleached blonde, and everything in between. She is the only horse I ever saw, who seemed to change color with her emotions. On the track, she was fiery and black. When she was with people, hanging out, she was a soft bay, with dapples, as soft as her personality. Now, she is a carefree blonde, having fun in the sun.
I was wondering, with those dapples, could there be any recessive gray genes in her? I have seen hints of chestnut in her at times. Like I said, the only horse I ever saw that could change color so much; of course it doesn’t surprise me, she is truly unique!
As far as Ziconic goes, he has so much of his mother in him, and looks like he has the idea about racing early, like a lot of Tapit’s offspring. I can’t wait to see him run! He has the personality, love of people, and camera, just like his mom (always turns to the cameras). It blew my mind when I saw him do her dance moves. There is one picture with his head way down, strutting, and another one with one of his front legs held way up, and stretched out. If anyone has those pictures, can you post them on this site? It brings back such memories of his mom, and so much hope for the future!!
There are no recessive grey genes. Grey is dominant, always. Dapples are just places where the coat color is slightly different than the rest of the coat. They tend to be more obvious on grey coats, but can occur with other colors. Not all horses get dapples, but in horses that have the genes to produce them, they show up best on a healthy coat. Zenyatta’s dapples show nicely, in part because she is a healthy, well fed horse. They won’t be as visible when she grows her winter coat.
WOW, Zenyatta! There are no words to adequately describe how stunning you look in these pictures. You look so happy & healthy and in foal. Your motherly glow is shining from the inside out.
Bronwen did a great job with these pictures. They are some of my favorites pics of you.
Enjoy the rest of the summer, dear mother-to-be again. As you know, it won’t be long before will be showing off your new baby Zen.
The Queen is absolutely gorgeous as always. What a sublime treat to find this post and pictures today. She remains such a mystery to me…gentle, wise and powerful…all wrapped in one magnificient package. She still gives me chills whenever I see a new picture of her and these are wonderful. Thank you, Team Z, for sharing them with us.
Beautiful photos by a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us. You are a blessing. Z looks beautiful no matter what “dream coat” she wears! A gift with many blessings to come. Thank you Jerry and Ann for sharing all the love.
Dear Zenyatta, You look absolutely beautiful. So nice to come here today and see these pictures of you. You just made my day.
Thank You so much all of Team Z for sharing with us.
Love Ya Zenyatta
Dear Pam in Florida,
Just wanted to tell you, I am so sorry about the loss of your horses. So Sorry, I know its so hard. Will keep you in my prayers. I believe we will see them again.
How I’ve missed you, my Queen. It seems you are a summer blonde, unless the photog’s filter gave you these highlights! I recall the BH cover where you showed up as a chestnut!
Love you always, Z, as well as your beautiful babies.
It is so easy to forget that every thought and word has a lasting effect. The result may not be noticed immediately, but time has a way of playing back the tape when we least need to hear it.
Nervous tension and anger, however unintentional, may seem justified, but it never is.
Too much stretch on a rubber band can bear on it weakest place and snap back to sting. Avoid putting too much pressure where it is dangerous. It is destructive and it hurts too much to take the chance.
When the tape starts saying, “They meant it for harm,” respond, “But I mean it for good.”
This is a glad day for me…because there is no more war between us and we meet in peace.

Whar beautiful pictures of Zenyatta. I appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers for me and my loss. The original and still owners of Pic are true horse people always putting the horse first. They never raced him sore, made sure he had only a good home when racing days were done and visited him at least once a year. The extended family traveled from England! They even sent birthday cards and gifts to him. It has been hard for me ,but worse for them since Pic was part of their lfes since the day he was born. He was never sold only shared…lke Zenyatta

Zenyatta you have such beautiful blonde highlights. Gorgeous photos. Why didn’t they commission this photographer for that atrocious American Pharoah Vogue cover!!
Dear Sheena,
Sorry to hear Gleneagles is not running today, ground is to
soft for him, we have firm ground here !!!! Wish he could meet
Wise Dan in the BC, think the course turns are too narrow, they
could train him. Maybe if all comes up to soft for him they will
think about it. There are two more races over there through October
if no rain. I would so love to see this youngster meet our monster. He
is really training very well. Hope he holds up for the BC. Guess the soft
ground is ok for GH.
Love and hugs
