I highly recommend Jane Smiley’s “Perestroika in Paris” about a filly who wins her race and then decides to explore the world outside her stall — just for curiosity’s sake. It’s a charming novel that combines horses and dogs and ravens and little boys and food and love and Paris into one delicious read. And no one can write about horses better than Jane Smiley (also recommended: “Horse Heaven”)
