Today we celebrate what would have been our filly’s first birthday by remembering the joy that she brought to the world. We created a memorial page for Z Princess with a collection of images, videos and memories from those who loved her.

Update from Hot Springs….The Great Buffalo Hunt Continues….
2 weeks ago 6 bison escaped
1 recovering at home from injuries after being struck by car
3 enjoying their temporary digs in borrowed 40 acre pasture here in town
2 remain at large….Bonnie and Clyde…
Either B or C was seen yesterday in a subdivision here in town….when observed retreated into large wooded area ….The Buffalo are still winning…
What i do not understand in why the authorities in NY? found it necessary to slaughter 16 of these animals when they escaped recently…our escapees are providing endless entertainment with their bid for freedom..

Dear Carol,
Hope Bonnie and Clyde stay safe and that they stay out of NY (the Albany area, I think). That was an awful thing to have happened to those 16 buffalo — apparently, the wildlife people and others decided the safest thing to do was to slaughter them! Really? Surely, there was a better alternative.
Keep us posted on Bonnie and Clyde. :-)

Thank you to the whole of Team Z,
The Memorial to Z Princess is a beautiful tribute to her, especially the writings of Ann Moss. The music choice in the “Remembering” video knocked me back because I had heard “IZ” Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What A Wonderful World in my head as I cried upon learning of Z Princess’s death. I turn to listening to IZ’s music when in warn, loving place, when in need of internal solace and when nostalgic for my Dad or Hawai’i
Yes, I am an animal lover but feel I am also practical about it in the sense we are steward of and partners with them. It is our job as human beings to learn how to understand lt them, not visa versa since we are the one’s with the skills of planning for the future. BUT, how I felt about Z Princess was joy and eagerness beyond anything including Zenyatta, since I came to discover her as grown and racing. Both have greatly affected my soul and I am thankful for this.
I now can see Z princess and IZ together, over the rainbow together, enjoying each other and waiting to welcome all fans. I’ll be there before too long since I’m 79.

Sometimes you have a foal that embraces life from the moment they hit the ground. They have a special need to enjoy each and every moment, each and every experience. Friendly and vivacious, they simply shimmer and shine with life and vitality. It’s as if they know something we do not; they have to live their life to the fullest because it will be so short.
Later after they are gone, we too know each and every minute of their life, of everyone’s life, is a gift.
