  1. Dear Sheena:

Hope Glesni and Monty’s 2nd chick hatched safely. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties

    1. Dear Judy:Yes Bob no 2 hatched safely at 11.10pm.Some very welcome news from the Dyfi an osprey very similar in appearance to Dai Dots turned up.Monty and Glesni acted as they knew him and did not mantle as usual when there are intruders.Posh Pete is keeping a close lookout and Blue 24 is putting on her best Bridget Jones impression.Love and hugs Sheena.

      1. Dear Sheena:

Happy news. Love your descriptions of all the different birds; too funny. Love and Hugs, JB

  2. Dear Mama Z, COZ, ZI, BBG and DC:

Stay comfy and cozy and Happy Dreams. Love and Hugs, JB

Z Princess, Dubai, Baby Z, will always love you.

  3. Dear Z Fans:

I stumbled on this Sports Illustrated story by William Nack about Secretariat. I had not seen it before and it’s one of the best and emotional ones I have ever read. Some of you may have already read it; but just in case, I just have to share it with all of you. It’s lengthy, but worth the time. Have your Kleenex ready. Enjoy. Love and Hugs, JB

    1. Secretariat. Totally magnificent.

      1. Dear Max:

Knew you would love this. One of a Kind! Magnificent, indeed. Love and Hugs, JB

        1. Secretariat never ceases to amaze me in every way. He accomplished so much in only 2 years of racing. God must have created him to race the wind, and only God has control over talent of that kind. We never know when it will be bestowed on a horse as a gift.

        2. Dear Max:

So very true! Love and Hugs, JB

    2. Dear Judy.Thoroughly enjoyed reading this.Arkle died by injection too but he never had a necropsy. The video I love of Secretariat is of him galloping in his field during his later years.A complete one-off.Love and hugs Sheena.

      1. Dear Sheena:

Yes, I love that one too; but my favorite is the Belmont. Still gives me goosebumps. Love and Hugs, JB

    3. Dear Judy B.,

You are certainly right about the Kleenex. Thank you so much for posting this brilliantly written, heartfelt article by Mr. Nack. I had not read it before. It is a beautiful tribute to an all-time legend and the Champion for the Ages. Secretariat the Great, the Mighty, and as you and Max stated, the Magnificent.

It took me awhile to read since it kept scrolling down or jumping ahead and then just locking up. I had to exit and then re-click on the link. HorseRacingNation just doesn’t like me to read their articles (thought since this was an SI reprint that it would be easy).

Thanks again for a truly wonderful article! ❤️

      Hugs and Love

      1. Dear Marshall:

Sorry you had problems with the site, but so glad you got to finally read it. Thought you would enjoy it. He truly is a Legend. Love and Hugs, JB

      2. Marshall,
I had the same problem with the site; it kept locking up. I had to shut my computer down & restart it 3 times to finish the article.

Secretariat is my all time greatest race horse & no other will ever come close to him. Thank you for posting this article, Judy. I believe that Mr. Nack also wrote a book about Secretariat.

        1. Dear Donna Z,

It is reassuring to know that someone else has this problem.
I was beginning to take it personally! :-)

          Hugs and Love

        2. Dear Donna Z:

Yes, you are right. Mr. Nack wrote Secretariat: The Making of a Champion. The Disney movie was based on his book. Love and Hugs, JB

    4. Dear Judy, Thank you so much for this article. Love him so dearly, forever.

    5. Thank you Judy. Wow.

    6. Dear Judy B.; I am blessed by coming to Z’s blog as I have just read the article of Secretariat. It brought so many emotions and at the end feeling the deep sadness for a beloved one of a kind horse Secretariat by the author and me.
      love n hugs, Sally B

    7. Thank you Judy. He was so special and will always be special.
      Love and Hugs, Marilu

      1. Dear Peggy, Donna A, Sally and Marilu:

So glad you enjoyed the article as much as I did. Very Special Boy! Love and Hugs, JB

  4. Some good news. Looks like Gormley is going to the Belmont.

    1. Dear Max:

Thank you for this info. Going to be an exciting Belmont, I think; wide open. Love and Hugs, JB

    2. Dear Max,

Thanks for the news about Gormley! I sure hope he finds the right path and does well.
      Safe racing beautiful Gormley!

Why is it that the links never allow me to read them? It comes up and immediately scrolls down to the bottom of the page so fast that you cannot read any of the article. The first time the article comes up there is an overlay of ads with no box to click in order to delete the overlay. I guess you have to be a subscriber to horseracingnation?

      Hugs and Cheers

      1. Click the x on the ads to get rid of them. When they are gone, the article can be read. Try that.

        1. I love following Choupette Lagerfeld on FB and twitter. She is thoroughly spoiled.A gelding such as Solow will have a wonderful life. They are loved for who they are and not for what they can produce

        2. Choupette like all of the great ones goes by her first name only. She has very expensive tastes in all of the finer things of life. I suspect that Solow who is himself handsome will fit in nicely in the Chanel world. Lagerfeld is a great admirer of beauty and character.

        3. Max,

There is no X anywhere accessible on the screen — the overlay, which is a grayish filter, covers everything and doesn’t allow clicking on any X. I am screened out completely from any action. The only option is to exit the site.

I do know how to click the X box to get rid of an ad. Sorry I didn’t give a better description of the problem.

        4. Marshall. I have had that problem too. The only alternative may be to go to the site itself and click on the article directly. Hope that works.

        5. Thanks Max.
That’s what I concluded, too. I’m glad to know that it has happened to you, also. Nice that I’m not alone. :-)

  5. Peggy,
Good wishes for your boy Gunny to heal up and be in tip top condition soon. Wish you could have seen him as he vanned down to Florida. Let us know anything you hear about him. Such a beautiful chestnut. Glad he had Mike on board to take good care of him.

I read over on the forum that Jerry said that he wasn’t sure if he was going to breed Zenyatta this year since she foaled so late.

Also, just think how grown up little Princess 2017 will be in her next pictures.

    1. Dear Shirlee, I’m hoping everyday to hear more news of Gunny. Hope they get him back home and hopefully will hear some news of him. Praying he gets well soon.
I hear Classic Empire is pointing towards the Belmont. This is one Fiesty Boy.

      1. Peggy,
Based on his pedigree, Classic Empire is the best of the bunch. Hope they give him a rest and don’t go in the Belmont. Lots of good races coming up later in the summer and of course, the BC in the fall. Pray that we will see you boy Gunny in some of these races.

  6. Terrakova daughter of the mighty mare Goldikova won the battle of the well-related fillies at Saint Cloud today.Treve’s sister Terre could only manage 7th.Terrakova is by Galileo.
Thunder Snow will race for the first time since the bizarre incident at the Kentucky Derby. He will take on Churchill.
John Gosden was very pleased with Cracksman after his work out on the Epsom track today.Cracksman is by Frankel and will be ridden by Frankie in the Derby.

  7. Dear Sheena:

Congrats Terrakova. Next time for Terre. Godspeed TS and Cracksman. Love and Hugs, JB

  8. Dear Sheena,

    Congrats to wonderful Terrakova!
Good luck and safe racing to Thunder Snow and Churchill. Also, good luck to Cracksman and Frankie, safe and sound always.

    Hugs and Love

    1. Dear Sheena and Marshall:

Godspeed Churchill too. Love and Hugs, JB

  9. Sheena: This is for you. You live in the land of hope and glory, mother of the free. You will never be alone.

    1. Thank you very much Max.Always gives me goosebumps.Much needed in the UK today. As I am sure you know Dame Vera is still with us.We shall never surrender. We are British and proud.

      1. I think that the Brits proved that conclusively against Herman Goering and the German Air Force. Never surrender!

    2. Dear Max, Sheena and Judy,

I love this song. It was part of my high school Glee Club’s musical program my senior year, and I was pianist for our Glee Club. It is uplifting and very comforting indeed. I love hearing Dame Vera sing, too. No one can top her, and Edith Piaff was wonderful, also.

Thanks for this link. God bless the people of the UK.

      Hugs and Love

      1. My Dear Marshall:

I love it too. I also sang in my high school Glee Club. How about that. Love and Hugs, JB

        1. I did too – what fun! Those were the BEST days. Also played the piano for the group on occasion like Marshall! 𝄞 ♥♫♬♪

        2. Dear Judy B. and Sandy,

Amazing! Those were wonderfully happy times. :-)

          Hugs and Love 🎶💖

        3. Dear Marshall and Sandy:

I loved singing in the Glee Club too. See that, we have more in common than we knew. Love and Hugs, JB

    3. Wow! Goosebumps indeed. My “plaid blood” (as my mother used to claim I had) was stirring! Thanks Max!

  10. Dear Max:

What a beautiful gesture by you to Sheena and the people of the UK. They have always been resilient and will continue to be at this sad time. God Bless them and you. Love and Hugs, JB

    1. The British are prime targets for these terrorists. The UK is a Christian state. The Queen is not only the head of state, but she also carries the title of Defender of the Faith. That faith is Christianity. Throughout her reign, she has also professed her personal dependence on Christ.

      1. Dear Max,

You are so right. The USA is forever linked to our original motherland and our staunchest allies. When one of us is attacked, the other feels it most deeply.
        God Save the Queen.

        Hugs and Love

      2. Dear Max and Z Fans:

So sad that people still haven’t learned to live and let live. We are all here for such a short time; even with a life of longevity, it’s short in the scheme of things. There’s a fanaticism loose in the world.

I can’t get my head around the fact that we’ve been in this religious conflict for almost 16 years. More than that actually if you count the first bombing at the Trade Center in 1993, the bombing at the US military base in Lebanon in 1983 and on and on and on. So many innocents lost on both sides. Love and Hugs, JB

        1. 16 years? I’ve got ancestors who were killed in the Crusades.

        2. Dear Max:

That is my point exactly. People are still in the Middle Ages fighting the Crusades. I just can’t believe that our beloved USA has been involved with boots on the ground in the Middle East for all of these years and no end in sight. Love and Hugs, JB

      3. Her Majesty held a minute’s silence today before the garden party at Buckingham Palace.Of course we had the ‘troubles’ in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s with the IRA.Manchester was bombed in 1996 but no fatalities. As Judy said our life on earth is so short we are but a moment in time.Surely we could learn to live in peace with one another.

  11. Dear Judy:I hear Coolmore have acquired the breeding rights to Classic Empire and Beholder’s dam is in foal to American Pharoah maybe you know.If that osprey proves to be Dai Dots where on earth has he been for over a year?.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley Willow and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

    1. Dear Sheena:

CE to Coolmore; wow, that was quick. Guess when you see that kind of talent and determination, you don’t waste any time. Great potential for that little foal to be. If it is Dai, I bet he has some interesting stories to tell. Love and Hugs, JB

  12. Dear Zenyatta,

I hope you and your precious Baby 17Z are enjoying these spring days! I am sure you are teaching her lots and that she is a quick study. Can’t wait to see how she has grown!

Goodnight and sweet dreams, dear ones. ❤️

    Hugs and Love

  13. Dear Judy and Marshall, Senior is a descendant of Secretariat. Hope to see him again soon.

    1. Dear Peggy:

He’s a gorgeous Chestnut boy. He’ll be headed to Belmont. Love and Hugs, JB

  14. Dear Max, Can’t wait to see Gun Runner at Churchill. Not long now.

    1. A photo of Gun. Hard to tell him apart from Biscuits. Race is June 17.

      1. Dear Max:

Thanks for this wonderful photo of Gun Runner. You’re right, he and Biscuits look very similar; two gorgeous Cashmere coats too. Here’s a photo of Biscuits. Love and Hugs, JB

      2. Dear Max & Judy, Just gorgeous members of the Chestnut Club.

  15. Dear Mastery, You are so loved dear boy. Was so fortunate to just find an article with info. Have dearly loved this boy since I first saw him.\
He is walking the shed row and up to l0 minutes of exercise a day. He is on target to have screws removed in June. It doesn’t sound like he will race again, but the good news is as several posted here he will live the good life as a stallion at Cllaiborne Farm. They were saying that his value as a stallion is North of 8 million or more. Wow.
He was my pic for a Triple Crown Winner this year but was not to be. The Good news is that as Smith said in that article is that he is OK .and that is just wonderful news to me. Keep healing dear boy. Power Up Mastery
And just maybe we could get to see him at Claiborne Farm one day. Love ya Mastery

    1. Dear Peggy:

So glad to know beautiful Mastery is doing well. Hope he has a long, happy, healthy life at Claiborne. Love and Hugs, JB

      1. Dear Judy, This is just one more that Mikey has helped save. God Bless him and Mastery.

        1. Dear Peggy:

That’s the number one reason I love Mikey, besides his being an outstanding rider, he truly loves the horses. Love and Hugs, JB

    2. Dear Peggy,

Thanks for this update on Mastery. Glad that the news is good, and hope that his recovery stays on schedule. Best wishes for continued smooth healing resulting in a long healthy retirement with lots of TLC.

      Hugs and Love

      1. Marshall this is one gorgeous boy.

  16. Dear Judy:No signs of Bob no3 yet.The army are out on the streets in London helping the police.Everyone carries on being so PC!The late, lamented Many Clouds was named leading chaser for the 16/17 season but Douvan was the highest rated although Altior is catching up.Hopefully they can be at their best next march we will get a mouth watering Champion Chase.Wes Ward is delighted with Lady Aurelia who breezed today at Keeneland.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley Willow and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

    1. Dear Sheena:

Congrats to MC, may he run free in God’s Heaven and congrats to Douvan. Glad to hear Lady A is training well. Keep a lookout for Bob 3. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties

  17. Sorry if this was already posted. I just noticed at DRF entries that Ziconic is entered in Race 9 Saturday at Santa Anita. Maiden Special Weight, 1 1/8 mile on the turf, VE riding. Gate 1, field of 12.

Good luck Zi, got my fingers crossed, maybe this is the one!

    1. Donna, join you in wishing Zi a very safe race Saturday. Come back to the barn safely Zi.

    2. Dear Donna A:

Thank you so much for this news; I didn’t know. Joining you and Peggy in wishing ZI Godspeed; safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB

  18. Looking forward Saturday for the Gold Cup too. Have never seen Midnight Storm race so looking forward to seeing him and all the horses in the Gold Cup.

  19. Dear Mama Z, COZ, ZI, BBG and DC:

Have a restful, peaceful evening and Happy Dreams. Love You. Hugs, JB

Z Princess, Dubai, Baby Z, will always love you.

  20. Songbird returns on Belmont stakes day.Daddy’s Lil Darling is taking in the sights and sounds of Epsom and the weather is perfect so far!
Her Majesty has visited the victims of the terrorist attack in Manchester on Monday evening. This tiny lady is the one constant in our ever changing and troubled world. We are privileged to have her as our Queen. The day will come when we lose her and may the Lord have mercy on us.
Bob no 3 is on the way!

    1. Sheena, I know there are some big races coming up over there (Minding, etc), but I can’t seem to put my finger on the exact day or track. I’m sure you know :-)

      1. Friday June 2nd at Epsom the Oaks.Hugs

        1. Many Thanks! I thought it was THIS weekend.

  21. Hong Kong racing fans will say goodbye to their greatest friend Able Friend has been retired. At one time the highest rated horse in the world he became a huge favourite with fans.He will retire to the farm where he was foaled in New South Wales,Australia. His one visit to Europe was a disappointment when he was well beaten in the Queen Anne which Solow won in 2015.There will be a ceremony at Sha Tin to bid him farewell this sunday.Have a wonderful life.X

  22. Does anyone know why we have not seen more photos of the new baby? I have noticed fewer photos overall. Team Z and Lanes End have always been so good about keeping us updated. I know this is a really busy time for them but just a few lines and photos to let us know all is well. Someone mentioned the possibility of a foot problem? I just hope this is a rumor, not true, but with no updates it is in the back of my mind.

    1. The foot problem is a clubbed foot. This is a very normal conformation issue, Zenyatta had one as a baby herself. It will be corrected through proper farrier work and won’t impact the filly’s prospects as a race horse.

As for the lack of constant updates. After what happened with Z16, Lanes End and Team Z are probably adopting a less is more approach and giving Zenyatta and her filly plenty of quiet time to just be horses rather than display models.

  23. Just saw in my Virtual Stable that Ziconic is racing Sat. but it has already been posted by another Donna. Anyway wishing the very best to our Zi. May this be the win he needs and most of all a safe race.

Love to our Queen and the precious new lady. Thanks to Lane’s End and Team Z for everything you do to keep us up on things and gifting us with beautiful photos.

  24. It has been awhile since I contributed to the blog and glad to see that so many old friends are still around. This message is for Judy Berube–Judy–I try never to forget that Russ was a hero. I am going to the national cemetery in Riverside on Monday and it will be my honor to read his name and add it to the roll of honor as I have done in the past. Next time I am here I will have a joke.
