Zenyatta News, Ziconic

Checking in with Ziconic

Happy Friday!

We loved hearing from so many of you following Ziconic’s debut. Trainer John Shirreffs reports that Ziconic looks great following his first race. His coat is shiny, his muscle tone is excellent, and has fully recovered from the race. John is pleased with his Febrauary 20 performance, saying “It gives us something to build upon.” Dottie added, “We love having Z’s colts with us, and getting to see both of them each day is a complete joy and thrill.”

Fun fact: Ziconic wore a special brow band in his debut, matching the one worn by his mom in the 2009 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar.

Scroll down for more photos from Ziconic’s debut and watch the race again here.

Don’t forget that Coz’s birthday is next week! Come back to the blog on Tuesday to leave him birthday wishes.

Enjoy!

The photos of Ziconic with Gary Stevens aboard are just glorious. What a newly minted copper penny coat Ziconic has. The closing finish of Z’s birthday foal(Ziconic born on Z’s birthday) so much like his dam!!!Can’t wait to see more of his races.

Songbird sings winning tune in G3 Santa Ysabel
Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro cruises to easy victory
    Darley News 5 March 2016
Songbird improved her record to a perfect six-for-six with a dominating performance in the G3 Santa Ysabel Stakes March 5.
The three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who earned an Eclipse Award as Champion juvenile filly in 2015, has yet to be tested in her career. Breaking alertly under regular rider Mike Smith, Songbird went to the front at the start and was never challenged, eventually crossing the finish line three-and-three-quarter-lengths in front while under a hand ride.

So happy to hear Ziconic came out of his race soundly. I’ve always had high hopes for this colt and believe he will only continue to get better. Watching him make such a closing effort put tears in my eyes! :)

Way to go Ziconic! God has blessed you with wings on your hooves!

Can’t wait to see you on the track again!

Thanks to all who enjoyed my joke on the last thread. As for Songbird, it is a shame that she is not being considered for the Derby. Under the present rules, a filly will not qualify unless the owners want to challenge the boys early to collect points. Maybe we will see her in the Preakness.

Dear Terry, I was wondering about the sending of Filly’s to the Derby. I also love Cathryn Sophia. I had read a few comments about wanting John Service to send her to the Derby. She is also a Fantastic Filly. Just loved the Davona Dale at Gulfstream. I met Street Cry when he was living so it is a sentimental for me. I told Judy I wouldn’t know which to pick if all these wonderful Filly’s go to the Oaks. Would I be betting with my heart or my head. Oh Gosh. Street Cry would be Cathryn Sophia’s Grand Sire.
Love Song Bird and Rachel’s Valentiono Too. Oaks and Derby should really be exciting this year.

If I am not mistaken, did I hear that Songbird is owned by the same team that Eight Belles was? If I heard correctly they said no Derby. I didn’t look it up before I posted here, but I am sure someone out there knows.

Yes, Rick Porter owned Eight Belles also. This new point system does not favor fillies getting into the Derby. Hope they make some changes.

I bet Zenyatta’s groom is so happy to have Zenyatta’s sons, to help a little, with him missing Zenyatta. I can only imagine the sadness when Zenyatta’s stall was empty when she left for KY.

Dear Max, Thank You for posting this. I just love Street Cry because of our Zenyatta and the wonderful stallion that he was. Such a wonderful family that he has left us with. His grand daughter Cathryn Sophia has just got me blown away. She’s unbeaten too and when I saw her win the Davona Dale by seven lengths I was just in heaven. I thought could we really have another wonderful filly coming along from the Street Cry family her being actually the daughter of Street Boss. I felt so lucky to get to visit with Street Cry for a good length of time that afternoon at Darley. I think I see her running that track and I’m so reminded of Zenyatta and her Dad. Just love it.

I love period pieces, and this one is the best. Sad that there will not be more episodes, but very grateful for all the episodes past. All the characters were wonderfully drawn and portrayed, and I love Dame Maggie Smith. Splendid cast all around and happy endings aplenty, too.

Even though we may not have seen friends for a very long time or even if we live many miles apart, that time and distance mean nothing to friends. We find each other again and again to share all that is important-and a great many things that are not important. Friends know how easy it is to get off center, and they forgive us whether we deserve it or not. But friends also have high expectations for us, maybe even higher than we have for ourselves.
We are at our best when we can be steadfast with other people, when we can make allowances for lapses and do it for no other reason than the fact that we are friends. When we have someone who stands with us in silent communication, that connection becomes a peaceful and long-lasting relationship that never gets old, and never comes to an end. Such a friend is priceless, and being such a friend is a sweet responsibility.

Ancestors handed down our religion…it teaches us to love each other, to be united.

    Dear Sheena,

Yes, being “friends” with people you’ve never met is fascinating. The ratties are so busy with the presidential campaign. I didn’t know about Zeus’ surgery ’til after the fact, either. Best wishes for his recovery! I hope Dolly’s parrot will be okay! It’s taking a long time to hear about Boo’s news. I have to agree that it might be an announcement that human is going to have a baby. I’ll look forward to seeing pics of that skiing vacation! Mrs. Reagan was quite frail, but who wouldn’t be at age 94? The Royals nowadays certainly don’t go into hiding prior to the births of their children like we used to see. Enjoy all the races and all the foxhunting. Yes, safety for all the horses! Love that new sock with room for 2! Have a great day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. For anyone who likes British period dramas, watch the House of Eliott. It is SO good. If it’s not on Netflix, try ordering it from your local library. That’s how I get mine, since I don’t yet have Netflix. I also heard Gosford Park is good. I understand Julian Fellowes won an Oscar for it in 2002, for Best Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Also, he appears in another really fun series called Monarch of the Glen, which I checked out of my local library. He has written so much, and I understand he is writing a new series right now!
