Happy weekend!
Six years ago today Zenyatta won the 2009 Lady’s Secret Stakes. It would be her second of three victories in this Grade I race which is now known as the Zenyatta Stakes. Watch it again here and head over to the career section for more details.
Enjoy!

October 15 Cherokee Devotional
Some of us go to great lengths to keep from doing detail work-anything from flipping through a directory for one name in ten thousand to guessing at amounts in a recipe. No time, no time.
Time isn’t saved by guessing. Even when we hit it right once in a while-most of the time we are just a little off. How many of us take our basic instructions from hearsay-how many don’t really want to know anyhow?
Life itself has an instruction book. There’s no reason to guess at what is right or wrong. We have a script for every part we play in life. When we have a need of any kind, the script has the wisdom to handle it. The Scriptures leave out nothing-and the biggest mistake we can make is to say we don’t believe it-and go off to figure it out by guessing.
We were put here by the Creator and these were our rights.

Dear Kathy, Love the devotional today! It is so true. Guessing can be a big time waster – although I admit sometimes it is fun to guess. But, in my art, details really matter. Sometimes, I’ve spent days, weeks doing research just to get something right. And more importantly, relationships require thorough thinking. Thank you for this important thought to start my day. Pray God’s many blessings for you as always.
with love, Elizabeth
Kathy
Dear Elizabeth,
Good morning! I find you can guess some of the time and it’s no big deal but as you say, sometimes you have to be exact, end of report. Have a lovely Friday Eve. God’s blessings to you, as well. Hugs, Kathy

Hi Zenny!
Wow, 6 years ago, it seems like yesterday! It’s sad as to how fast the years fly by. But, you are happy, and have a beautiful home at Lanes End.
I bet you are really enjoying this beautiful fall. In a couple of weeks, Kentucky is going to be filled with lots of excitement. It is never going to be as exciting as it was when you won the BC Classic. Even your second Classic race was so exciting. You gave us so many thrills.
Love you Zenny.
Love,
Linda

Dear Sheena,
All the FB furbabies seem to be doing well. I’m so happy for Mango and her family! They are getting a new family member named Kate! Seems like a definite sign from above, doesn’t it? Wimbley was accused of being a curmudgeon and Fibbs is afraid of the dark. Poor little guys! Lovely video of Tom and Joey. Have a fabulous Friday Eve. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Great news about Lady Eli.She will stay in Kentucky another couple of months and then be back in some light training December time. She looks fantastic.Beholder had a work-out today vey humid day seems she’s not too keen on the heat and Kentucky weather should suit her better. Will arrive there on the 19th.Sheena.

Gary Stevens says she knows there is a big race coming up. She can tell by the way she is being trained. He also said that he is sitting on something very special, something that he has never experienced before. Just hope she can take her A game outside of CA, she has not been too lucky with that in the past.
shirleeinindy
Tizgood,
Come what may, Gary will take good care of her. He sure did a good job with Muchie in the Classic 2 years ago. He seems to know what each horse needs to run his or her best.

Dear Ann,
Yes, it looks as if the State Fair will have great weather. I hope to get over there for a short while on a weekday this year since I am currently “retired” ( the store where I have worked for 21 years has closed — the owner sold the property and has retired). I love to go to the Hunt Horse Complex to watch the free horse shows. It is my “isle of tranquility” when the crowds on the midway and at the exhibits get to be too much. I love that place; have fond memories of my friends’ daughters riding in 4-H shows there for many years. Their girls are grown now — one is in medical school at ECU and the other has graduated UNC and is working, trying to decide whether she wants law school or not. Alas, I miss those days of their horse shows!
Take care and good luck with your bovines!

October 16 Cherokee Devotional
There were ducks on the pond this morning, a pair of blue-winged teals gliding smoothly along and stopping only to feed. They were oblivious to cattle feeding along the slopes-and even to footsteps on the grass. It is a calm peace of mind that is not easily startled.
Everywhere is beauty, the cottonwood tree white against the oaks and evergreens, the ungainly heron wading at the water’s edge. So common and so unlikely to attract attention because it all fits together in a picture so easily taken for granted. But the peace cannot be taken for granted because it seeps into the soul like sunlight pierces the deepest shadows-and rests.
I questioned the trees and bushes…Who made you? In dream Wakan Tanka told me I must honor his works in nature.

Dear Kathy. We take so much for granted especially in the Natural world which is sad.Another trophy hunter has caused outrage(except to the hunting forums, ofcourse)by killing one of the biggest bull elephants in Zimbabwe.A german tourist this time and it absolutely sickens me to see him posing so proudly with his kill. There are good people in this world and there are some ……..????Why couldn’t they leave this magnificent beast to live out his life in peace.
Poor Hovis not allowed to go “man hunting” and he’ll be looking like a seal pup soon.Poor Penster has gone to join Marty in Heaben.Milo was enjoying his treat.Aidan will decide about Gleneagles this afternoon they have had showers at Ascot dry in Wales!Kate will be arriving in NM today she’s very sweet and will help to heal their broken hearts.Fubu had a rough day both mum and him had to visit their docs.Fubu stopped eating again. It was 6.30pm by the time he saw his vet because mum’s apt took longer than anticipated so we will get a report today. He did eat some kitty gravy last night.Lovely pics of Wookie and the family. Now I am getting a chance to visit the furbabies.Have a fantastic Friday.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Dear Sheena,
I’m about to leave for my Pilates session. Made a run over to Santa Anita to get to see AP one last time before Breeder’s Cup and his new life in KY. I met up with a trainer, “Matt” and his client, a half-owner of a thoroughbred. They were nice enough to take me over to Bob Baffert’s barn! I talked Bob Baffert himself, and was able to see AP up close again and get lots of pics. That is so distressing about that poor elephant. Hovis had a tough week, hopefully things will improve! RIP, Penster. She was a cutie. Milo was loving that treat. I know Aidan will make the best choice for Gleneagles. I don’t think Mango and family are adopting Kate after all. I believe the missionaries decided to keep her. Prayers that Fubu will get better, Mom, too. Still have to visit My Pom Pals. Have to run now. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Oooh! Lucky, lucky you getting to see Baffert and AP! Hope you told AP how much we all love him :-)
Kathy
Dear Sandy,
I did indeed tell AP we love him. Quite a thrill getting to be in the presence of the number one rated thoroughbred in the world! :-)

We forget the road we have been over together…how difficult it was and how good. We matured together, giving courage and understanding.
Undoubted loyalty is there between us, knowing always that we can rely on kindness. We put aside anything we could not understand until it became clear.
The divine wrote in our contract to take care of this person, to load every rift with good humor and good words and always with the knowledge that we are not alone. We have planted good seeds, we have cultivated-so now comes the harvest. The joy of it is knowing we are not alone.
It is the same with human beings-there is someplace which is best adapted to each.
