I’m not an either or person. I adore Coz and I adore Zic and I will adore any other offspring we are fortunate enough to know. Perhaps John is trying to ease him into training and not make expectations too overwhelming. My love for other horses takes nothing away from my devotion to the one and only Queen of Racing. WISE DAN! I am concerned about Mr. Commons. He may not be a champion but he’s never been common.

      Dear Vicki:

      Lovely post.

Mr. C has had works at Belmont; two in May and three in June, so maybe we’ll be seeing him in a race soon. He has earned almost $1M in 28 starts. Love and Hugs, JB

Well said Vicki. Most of us have other horses that we love along with the Queen and her boys! Great fun to talk about them to others here on the blog and to hear about their other loves. Wonder if Max knows any more about The Big Beast and his injury?

All is silence from The Beast camp. Hoping that it is a minor issue with the hoof. His peeps love Beastie Boy and take care of him.

I think Coz will be a late developer like his mum, it would be interesting to see how he would run on turf.
No matter what I will never forget that feisty baby snorting and digging in his paddock and Charles saying everyone is covered in bruises because of his biting, he is such a character.

    Love him.

      Dear Donna,

Thank you for that post, that’s the CoZ I always remember, I always saw him as a little arrogant in a good way and sure of himself. He always loved to run and I for one thought his name should have been, BorntoZtoRun. He is a runner and will not disappoint. Like you said and I add, both his parents were late bloomers and his father was a really good race horse after his 2 year old disastrous year, and except for Invisor in his 3 year campaign or was it his 4th year? ,, he won everything he was entered and handily too. Our first Prince will get it right and will be a great one. As we believe so will it be for our dear boy. It is well always at Z Nation. Have a restful night and a Blessed weekend.

Loved Omar Sharif as Nicky Arnstein in “Funny Girl”, too, and later in an appearance as Arnstein in “Funny Lady”, both with the incomparable Barbra Streisand. Of course, he was outstanding in “Dr. Zhivago” and “Laurence of Arabia” without a doubt. He was an excellent bridge player as well.

    ♥ Dear CoZ
I didn’t get to see a video of you in the paddock. I understand from Omar that you did much better preparing for the race i.e. saddling barn, etc. That says a lot! Omar adores CoZ by the way!

I think the most pathetically funny comment I’ve read so far (I’ve stayed away from the blogs due to the negative remarks but I accidentally came upon this Poster’s comment) to paraphrase: Coz isn’t interested in racing. I think you should make him a pony.

Wow, a million dollar pony! And a handsome one at that! :-)

How many times do we have to reiterate: Zenyatta was a slow starter. Give her offspring (ALL of them) a CHANCE! I’m sure no two will be alike, either.

Thank you Z Dumplings for your continued love and support.
XO Auntie Judy, I will never give up on Zenyatta’s babies.

So eloquently and succinctly stated, thank you. I don’t know why some people can be so mean and someone even saying they are horses and not humans, like horses have no feelings. All living things feel, that’s my belief.

I love CoZ, he was not paying any mind to all the negative talks as he was too busy trying to perfect his dance moves as his mom will not out dance him.

Thank you again for standing with the first prince through thick and thin, Have a good nights rest and a great weekend. It is always well at Z Nation,.

You know, I almost wrote a piece on THE VAULT after Coz’s last race about the “One Size Fits All”(OSFA) concept of development that plagues education as well as our sport, albeit for different reasons.

In education, it takes the form of expecting every child will learn in the same way and develop in the same way. Hence the approach of teaching (and testing) every child the same way. And the thing is, it’s nonsense –never worked, never will work — but it just hangs on no matter how obviously silly it is. Parents end up thinking about their children in terms of where they stack up against the best ones in a class and — greatest tragedy of all — children end up seeing themselves this way too.

The concept comes down to us from the image of the machine — the most powerful metaphor of our industrialized society. But people aren’t machines and neither are horses. Whether child, youth, colt, filly or mare, each are absolutely unique and will develop differently. Today we have no patience for this kind of thinking, sadly.

But great teachers and great trainers apply strategies aimed at an individual’s developmental process to those they teach/train — usually with brilliant results.

I just hope that Shirreffs & the Mosses can align to keep Coz on track, helping him to become the best he can be in the time he needs to do that, regardless of what the voices in the social media have to say about his first two races. I have to believe that John knows Coz best of all and will continue to train him according to his needs & abilities.

Zenyatta made it look SO easy, didn’t she? But, of course, it isn’t; it was Zenyatta’s greatness that made it seem a walk in the park. Like American Pharoah or Secretariat or Man O’ War or Nijinsky.

I welcome the opportunity to learn from watching Coz develop and grow, which he will. It’s such a rare insight we’ve all been given by Team Z into the “life of a thoroughbred.” May we continue to have the wisdom to appreciate what Team Z is showing us! The lives of horses would be so much better (as would the lives of our children & youth) if we could just defend their right to have a space to grow.

Love to all & kisses to my Big Girl and her beautiful boys.
    Love you forever, Princess.

    Hi Abigail,

Your post is excellent about teaching and learning whether human or horse. Bravo! He (Coz) will come around when he is ready and if he isn’t so what. Some of the fastest and brightest do not want to run for whatever reason. He contains a gene pool that is excellent and if racing isn’t his thing, then breeding might be where he excels. We all just have to be patient and see what develops over time. I wonder if the negative posters had parents who treated them poorly and negatively? I wonder how well they perform in life?

    July 11 Cherokee Devotional

Like a tongue on a sore tooth, night magnifies. The light of day dissolves worry, but night enlarges fear. Loneliness is greater at night and stress swells like yeast in bread.
Warm, reassuring, comforting light can be present night or day. As dense shade in deep woods can cause the owl to call out its nighttime song, so the dark makes us feel vulnerable. But one bright beam of sunlight can pierce the forest and hush the owl-so one bright beam in our spirits can dissolve darkness. We are not alone-and nothing is impossible.

I can’t wait until Ziconic is ready to race. He might be an earlier developer, because of his sire. I could hardly believe those pictures of his dancing, just like his mom; they were the exact moves. Maybe he has even more traits of his mom, and he has a great sire. He has always had a presence about him, and muscles, even when young. I loved the video of him running with mom, and staying right with her, at only 3 weeks old. Does anyone know if Mario is his groom? Does anyone know how John feels like his training is going?

Meant to tell you, my cable box was fried the other night during a huge thunder/lightening storm, Big D style and was looking forward to racing on TV.
        Big thanks!

Thank you. I worry so much about the ones in the claiming ranks as they can go from owner to owner. It is hard to keep track of them. Still say that no matter who he is with, they need to know that a bunch of Zsters are watching.

Watched IYSD going to the post. He seemed to have some prancing moves. Wonder where he got that from. Zenyatta did you tell Tasty to pass that to her youngsters.

Maragh, Ortiz Jr Out With Injuries After Spills at Belmont Park Friday
San Diego Horse Race July 11, 2015
Two of New York’s top jockeys were injured Friday and will miss time, one for an undetermined amount of time. Rajiv Maragh is still in the hospital while Irad Ortiz Jr will sit out the next week.
Rajiv Maragh remains in the hospital after he suffered broken vertebrae in a spill at Belmont Park. Maragh reportedly broke the t5 and t6 vertebrae and suffered fractures in the t4 through t7 vertebrae in his back. The popular jockey also broke a rib and punctured his lung. The good news is he was moving his arms and legs.
Maragh was riding Yourcreditisgood when they went down at the half mile pole after clipping heels with another horse. The filly got up at was eventually corraled by an outrider. Maragh was transported to North Shore Hospital, conscious, but complaining of neck and back pain. He underwent several CT and cat scans and but doctors have determined no surgery will be necessary and Maragh expected to be walking some time Saturday.

Thanks again. Happy he is okay. He looks like such a young boy. These guys are all very brave and are the best athletes in the world. Only sport where an ambulance follows along behind them.
